Disappointed in pop ups and story line. 2 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Many of the popups were stuck and had to be loosed. Then, some of the sliding tabs were so stiff, my 4 year old became frustrated. Most disappointing was the plot of trying to arrest Bananas Gorilla for stealing bananas. So many other fun things could have been the subject matter for this book. For example, the video of Mr. Frumble chasing his hat or the video on occupations (Busy People). Even the video with Sergeant Murphy chasing Bananas Gorilla ends up showing that the bananas really were Banana's Gorilla's bananas. At least that shows that we all can make mistakes.
The book appeals to children in preschool, yet most do not understand the intricasies of chasing someone all over town. Furthermore, wouldn't it have been better to have a view of the police that is helping, instead of punishing for this age group?

Editorial Review:

WHEN BANANAS GORILLA steals a truckload of bananas, he leads Sergeant Murphy on one of the most exciting chases ever! Follow the trail of banana peels through pages jam-packed with pop-up surprises, pull-tab thrills, and lift-the-flap silliness. Fans of Richard Scarry will love seeing his beloved Busytown characters literally pop off the pages!

LOVE IT! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 8 people found this review helpful.

My mom used to read this book to me ALL the time, and then we would talk about what she thought HER "baby bunny" would be. I'm now 27, and she still refers to me as "the baby bunny" because of this book. I am a 1st grade teacher, and today I got a good evaluation, and mom said, "Well, it sounds like the baby bunny has grown up to be a great teacher!"

Important careers 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This lovely story is about a bunny family who take turns guessing what the baby bunny might want to be when he grows up. Moving through a range of immediate and extended family members including Mum, Dad, brother, sister, Aunt, Uncle, Grandad, Grandma and cousins this is a great way to introduce concept of family and provide a talking point about family ties. The book also moves through a range of careers and ending with one of the most important jobs of all.. being a parent.

Editorial Review:

A daddy bunny plays with his baby bunny and says, “What will our baby be when he grows up?” Everyone, from the baby’s mother to big sister to Great Aunt Bunny, seems to know: a clown, a policeman, a candy store owner. But the baby only nibbles on his carrot and looks wise . . . for he knows he will grow up to be a nice daddy bunny!

Richard Scarry's Animal Nursery Tales 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

There are many, many fairy tales books out there. I wanted something that would hold my 2 year-old daughter's attention while I read to her at night. I thought a good place to start would be some of the fairy tales I remembered as a kid, stories such as the "Three Little Pigs" and "Goldilox and the Three Bears."

Most of the fairy tale books I found were composed mainly of text with a few antiquated pictures every now and then. And this is fine for older children, but no so for a two year old. When I came across this book, I knew I had struck gold.

Those of you with children not familiar with Richard Scarry's books are missing out on some of the greatest learning/reading tools out there. Scarry's books are visually appealing -- multiple drawings of delightful animal characters on each page, moving the story along and giving your child plenty of details to view while listening.

As a child of the 70's, I was already familiar with Scarry's books. I must have read each of them dozens of times as a kid, pouring over and appreciating the details in every picture. Let's face it, the way to get kids into reading is to make it interesting; this is certainly a good way to start them off early.

If you're looking for a good way to get the kids interested in reading, or if you just want a quality book of fairy tales for the children in your life, look no further than this one. It's a book your children will cherish and, like myself, read to their own some day.

Editorial Review:

Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and many other classic nursery tales are retold with Richard Scarry's beloved animal artwork. First published in 1975, this hardcover collection is perfect for reading aloud to the youngest Scarry fans!

Wonderful Mice Memories 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have been looking for books that I owned and loved as a child. I only have a few of the originals and I feel terrible that I didn't keep them all now that I have a brand new nephew. Thanks to Amazon.com I've been re-building my collection. This book "Christmas Mice" brings up lovely memories of two of my favorite subjects Christmas time and animals. The pictures are sweetly drawn by Richard Scarry who illustrated many books during the sixties that I was very fond of. His depictions of mice and bunnies are precious and heartwarming. And the story is nice too because Santa Claus doesn't forget even the tiniest of mice at Christmas time. I hope that my nephew will develop a love for art, family traditions and animals that will be influenced by this book.

Richard Scarry's Christmas Mice 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

One of those books that was a holiday favorite of both my children and myself. A simple and appealing story perfect for the 2 to 5 age group it remained popular with my kids for some time after that because of it's unique charm - not the least of which is Richard Scarry's wonderful illustrations.

Editorial Review:

In this gentle Christmas story, we see Christmas through the eyes of two adorable mice. As they admire the Christmas tree and Santa's generous gifts, they even find a little something for themselves!

THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THIS BOOK IS FUN! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Like other richard scarry books this one has the usual FUN cast of characters....The pictures are charming and the words are not imtimidating. It would be easy to follow and predict the words because the pictures are so discriptive. This was a great early reader book.:)

Great Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

With great illustrations, my 3 years old son can read out the story even without knowing the words. The story is about a rabbit that was struck in the street with cement. The animals in busy town tried to find ways to get the rabbit out, including using big fan, dump truck, stick, and finally power shovel to scoop him up. It is amazing that just with the simple questions, like "Can we blow him out?" can arouse the interest of the little reader to read the book. This is one of favourite bedtime stories for my son. It is really a great book. I highly recommend this book for toddlers.

Editorial Review:

Mr. Rabbit's feet are stuck in cement and all of his friends are trying to

get him out. Follow their hilarious hijinks in this delightful tale of what

happens when you don't pay attention to where you are going.

A Winner in Our House! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Our nearly three-year old daughter simply loves this book. She first got Richard Scarry's "Biggest Word Book Ever" (which I ABSOLUTELY recommend!), and therefore already knew the characters. She cracks up at the clumsy Mr. Frumble, who is always having accidents, and she is attracted to the kindness and friendship between Lowly Worm and Huckle Cat. She recognizes emotions and personality traits in this book...Mommy Cat is angry, Huckle Cat is sad, poor Mr. Frumble is "accident prone". These emotions are displayed in an age appropriate way. This book is a compilation of 3 short stories, and is one of the first "big girl" books she consistently wants to read, morning and night. Definitely the best few bucks I ever spent!

NEVER a mistake with Richard Scarry! 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

When I was a little guy, I loved books by Richard Scarry! Now as a daddy, I'm overjoyed that my little girl, Riley, gets into this book that she got by Scarry.

Welcome to Busytown! This book consists of 3 stories that basically have 1 thing in common. They have Huckle Cat, and they all had Lowly Worm as the main attraction in each story. Huckle and Lowly are best buds!

The first story, "The Best Mistake Ever" is simply about how Huckle Cat is sent to the grocery store. There's just one small problem: Huckle forgets the shopping list that Mother Cat wrote out. But Lowly Worm comes to the rescue!! Or does he? While Huckle thinks that his mother wants cream, Lowly's pretty certain that it's ice cream. And when the question of apples comes up, Lowly thinks that apple pie is just what Mother Cat ordered. Will Mother Cat be pleased?

Story #2 is "A Visit to Mr. Fixit". Huckle Cat gets his mother a cuckoo-cuckoo clock for Mother's Day. But with Lowly Worm riding on the back, he takes a corner too fast and crashes into Postman Pig, and breaks the clock. After being ordered to fix the bell on his bicycle by Officer Murphy, he makes a trip to Mr. Fixit to fix both the bell, and a broken cuckoo-cuckoo clock. What will Mr. Fixit do with the broken pieces?

Then finally you have "Best Friends" on Huckle Cat's birthday. But for some reason in school, Lowly Worm is hanging around the other kids, but not Huckle. This is quite unusual, but Huckle gets the surprise of his life!

And this is something great for your kids! Richard Scarry is always fun, and it's never a mistake to go with his books. Kids and Richard Scarry go hand in hand!

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. In this storybook, Scarry presents three humorous tales about happily resolved misunderstandings in the busy world of Lowly Worm and Huckle Cat.

Firefighters save Busytown residents. 5 out of 5 stars.

An entertaining account of Busytown's four firefighters. The firefighting pigs save the town from the dangers of fire (and in some cases from themselves). Filled with Scary's action-packed, humorous drawings. A very fun book.

my son's favorite! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is full of vehicles, real and imaginary, my son loves anything that goes! Mr. Frumble's many accidents always makes us both laugh. The action always makes him excited too. I'm not a good writer, all I can say is my son's first exclamation was from this book "oh dear". I've read it so many times now that he and I both have memorized it!

Beautiful little book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My toddler LOVES this little book. The concept is simple. There are labeled pictures of ordinary everyday objects. It's a great way to re-enforce what she's learning about objects in the world. It has kept us busy and happy on many car trips. It's an inexpensive way to spend a little quality time with my child. I see this book as a prelude to "What do people do all day", which is also good, but in my opinion a little bit busy for a one year old.

BEST LITTLE WORD BOOK EVER 3 out of 5 stars.

I PAID $4.99 AND THE BACK OF THE BOOK LISTS A US PRICE OF $2.99.

Not a first Word Book 3 out of 5 stars.

Lovely Illustrations by Richard Scarry, and a nice little word book for a older toddler, but not really suitable for an older baby beginning to point and recognise, pictures are a little too complex.
A nice little book all the same.

Editorial Review:

Labeled pictures introduce the members of the Cat family, their good friend Lowly Worm, their house, their food, and their drives downtown, to the airport, and to the harbor.

This is a great version of the classic story, with fantastic illustrations by Richard Scarry. The images are bright and detailed, and my two year old LOVES this book!

Very large book! 5 out of 5 stars.

Was I ever surprised when I got this in the mail. The book is a nice-size book; nothing like any of the smaller Golden Books that you find in the stores. I try to get all my Christmas books on sale, but it is well worth the $8.99 splurge.

And to be quite frank, I'm not a big fan of Richard Scarry books, but this is a nice addition to my collection of Gingerbread books.

Richard Scarry's Getting Ready for School Workbook 4 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

My child and I give this book 4 "PURPLE" crayons up (4 stars). The book includes exercises in the basic "3 R's"plus puzzles and coloring pages, which are very handy in preparing children for school. Lowly and Huckle help take the preschoolers smoothly through each lesson. My 3yr. old recognized the characters from TV. We both like the book's lesson format, which was different from your general activity books you find in stores. (Usually my preschooler will finish the 30 page books in one sitting.) This book has 128 pages. I only wish there was a note at the bottom of the pages explaining what skills are covered by each lesson. Oh, and perforated pages to make it easier to tear out the assignments.

Editorial Review:

Lowly Worm, Huckle Cat, and the rest of the Busytown bunch help preschoolers

ease into school with this bind-up of four Richard Scarry's Best Workbooks

Ever! With over 128 pages of fun-filled reading, writing, and number

activities, dot-to-dots, mazes, and pictures to color, this great big book is

certain to help little ones learn to love learning!
