EXCELLENT 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

When I was a little girl my mom would read this book to my sister & I every nite. We always looked forwarded to having a story read from the book. I am 26 now and I treasure the book very much, even with out the cover intact! My sister is pregnant and I would like to order the book for her so her child can enjoy what we did. Please make the book available soon!!! Thank You.

A great book for young readers 5 out of 5 stars.

If you can find a copy of this book, I recommend it highly as perfect for young readers. The stories and poems are very short and to the point so a child won't be overwhelmed by a huge plot or excess of words. This was one of my first books and one from which my mom taught me to read at 3 years of age. I hope to do the same with my daughter.

Editorial Review:

Reissued after many years, this wonderful collection of 365 poems and stories is surrounded by charming examples of Richard Scarry's early pre- animal character artwork. Appropriate to the day and season some pieces teach about history, talk about the seasons, have morals lessons, and some are just plain fun: all provide the perfect ending for every day of the year. A beautifully made family treasure that will remain a favorite year after year.

Things that go book for little boys 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my sons when they were little and they loved it page by page until (the book was worn out) I bought them a second copy. Since my children enjoyed the book so much I bought a copy of my grandsons. They are doing the same thing and in fact this is the second copy of I am getting for them. I am happy that they are interested in book. Two generations have now loved this bood to death. I consider this the best recomendation a book can recieve.

This is a keeper! 5 out of 5 stars.

One of the best books ever! I had to actually put it away at times because my youngest wanted it read over and over....

Girls love it too! 5 out of 5 stars.

25 years ago my sons couldn't get enough of this book. I got so tired of reading it over and over. Skip to the next generation and one day my two granddaughters discovered it in a box of their dad's old favorites. They are 3 and 5 and just love it! Everytime they come over, the first thing they do is go dig it out for me to read. Honestly, I've taken to hiding it!

Editorial Review:

The pigs are off to the beach for a picnic but Dingo Dog is around and he is driving terribly! Officer Flossy is going to give him a ticket - if she can catch him! This is just the beginning of a mad chase involving cars, planes, boats and even diggers.

Super fun for a speech/motor delayed 3 year old! 5 out of 5 stars.

My son loves this story. There are cutouts for his finger to explore on every page as he follows the trials and tribulations of a traveling egg...there is a wonderful surprise ending...that is fun to anticipate too. It's an activity book, without any tabs to break! Highly recommended.

Brings Back Memories 5 out of 5 stars.

I remember being read this book as a child. It was a fun read. I remember being fascinated by the hunt for the missing egg.

Adorable book for little ones 5 out of 5 stars.

This is such a sweet book. The pictures and the text are perfect for little ones, who wait eagerly to "discover" the hidden location of the egg at the end of the book. They get a very happy surprise. This is a great book that moms can read to their children and it will delight them again and again.

Perfect board book for babies! 5 out of 5 stars.

I got this for my daughter when she was 13 months. It has become one of her favorites for sure! She loves to hold on to the "holes" and follow the dotted path of the egg with her finger. It's the book she reaches for the most to have me read to her. I catch her reading it by herself sometimes, and softly mimicking my reading as she follows the egg on each page. So cute! You seriously cannot go wrong with Richard Scarry (another great board book of his is "I Am a Bunny" - beautifully illustrated!) Very sturdy, should last for many, many years. This book would make a great present for a one year old or any toddler, to get them excited about books and reading.

Editorial Review:

An all-time Richard Scarry favorite is back by popular demand! Henny laid an egg and then lost it. As Henny searches the farm for her precious egg, children will love guessing what happened. A spot of plush adds a delightful tactile quality to this beloved touch & feel board book.

The Worst Helper Ever 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

"The Worst Helper Ever" is a very good book I thought. Farmer Pig has a lot of work to do so he decides to go into town to get some help. He runs into Charlie Cat and asks him to give him some help on the farm. The only problem is that Charlie Cat is very clumsy. He tries very hard to help him but every time he messes up Farmer Pig gets angry with him. It is very comical for a young reader especially since the illustrations are so good. At the beginning of the story when Farmer Pig first goes into town to get some help you realize what kind of person he is and also how different he is form Charlie Cat. On the way back home from town Charlie Cat offers to drive the truck so that shows that Charlie Cat is a good person to have help you. But on the way home as they're going over the bridge they fall in... that is how most of comical story goes. But at the end of the story Farmer Pig messes up but Charlie cat doesn't get mad at him like Farmer Pig did to him. Charlie cat tells him that everyone makes mistakes and that's true. I think it was a good moral to the story for younger readers and I think that they would learn a lot form this story.

Editorial Review:

Mile 2 books offer word play and pattern stories to keep beginners hooked, and introduce just a few more words per page to keep them challenged.

, , Farmer Pig needs a helper. He calls in his pal, Charlie Cat, to help him out. But Charlie Cat is a little too clumsy for Farmer Pig. Filled with classic Richard Scarry illustrations, this book is sure to please any emergent reader. Originally published in Richard Scarry's Best- Read-It-Yourself Book Ever, this delightful story has been rewritten specifically for Mile 2.

My gift to my granddaughter 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have an original copy of this book, which my children, esp. the youngest, LOVED. His daughter is turning one year old and they've asked everyone to pick out a favorite book for a gift (as they are inundated w/more clothes, toys, etc. than they will ever need).
His wife asked him if he had a favorite book as a child, and this was it!
Despite it's being read SO many times, it's in really good condition and is the 1965 edition, which I now know is long out of print.
So, this will be a gift for her from grandma & grandpa... though she likely won't handle it herself for a while!

Best Bedtime Book Ever 5 out of 5 stars.

Still reading my childhood copy to my 3 kids. The 10 year old, all full of attitude and desire for adult fare, just said the other day, "That's still one of my favorite books." The 4 year old could read it every night.

Amazingly, I don't remember knowing who Couscous was in the street scene until reading it to them and noticing the clue in the next scene.

Memories 5 out of 5 stars.

This is my Favorite book from when I was a child. I still have my torn up copy at home and when I feel really sick I make my Dad read it to me.

One score and seven years ago... 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book from 1973 is still a classic for little ones learning about letters and words. This book was a favorite of mine when I was learning, and I was so glad to find out that it is still available. My two-year-old daughter loves Richard Scarry books, and will no doubt greatly enjoy this one. In this book, Dudley the Pig detective and his cat partner look for letters of the alphabet. Each page is for a different letter, in alphabetical order; on each page, there are multiple words containing the designated letter. All of the designated letters are red, except for one. The child must find the one letter written in black. As with all Scarry's books, the pictures are great and engaging, and the characters are lovable. I highly recommend it--it certainly made an impression on me.

My Boys' Favorite 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Wonderful book contrasting the behaviors of two "boys". The parents even have rules which are actually enforced! Imagine that, a book that in today's world shows parents with a backbone and who love their kids enough to say "no"!! All this with Richard Scarry's wonderful illustrations. We bought extra copies to give to friends with young ones. Our boys love it as we read it to them. A wonderful way to reinforce the long-forgotten idea of "responsibility" in our children.

Great classic 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a great classic book.

This is the story of Pig Will and Pig Won't, a book about manners and behavior from 2 little pigs.

This book does show Pid Won't getting a spanking--remember this book is older. It also talks about "minding your mother." Kids will still get the point about good behavior even if you don't say and do the exact same things in your family.

This book is a wonderful and entertaining story and even tho it is a bit dated, my kids still love it as I did as a child.

Editorial Review:

Pig Will minds his manners, but naughty Pig Won't won't!  In three stories, Pig Won't learns to play nicely, help with chores, and always say please and thank you.  Richard Scarry's beloved characters make these cautionary tales more fun than didactic.

Richard Scarry's Funniest Storybook Ever 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This is the very first Richard Scary's book that I bought for my 2 1/2 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. It is a daily "must read" book for her. She enjoys the antics of each character and delights in the illustrations. Now she picks the order of stories to be read. If she could have her way, she would make me read them all to her at one sitting!

This book teaches the good and the bad, the "should do" from the "should not" in a amusing way. Many of the stories are centered around a family life and this is highly commended.

Even I do not tire reading from this book everyday. It is a challenge to find new details in the illustrations to stretch her mind. I would definitely recommend this book and if my daughter has her way, she would too.

Both my daughter and I would certainly scout for more of Richard Scarry's books.

not Richard Scarry's best 4 out of 5 stars.
11 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I'm a Richard Scarry fan, but this book isn't his best (I recommend "What Do People Do All Day?", "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go," and "Richard Scarry's Biggest Book Ever" instead). The pictures are, of course, great and full of detail, and most of the stories are amusing for young children, but I don't like the text -- it sounds dated and stiff, and in some cases is a bit too harsh (criminal characters who have to be "punished," etc.) If I read the stories to my son in my own words we enjoy the book more. (Well, he would probably enjoy it no matter what the words were!)
