Great interactive book 5 out of 5 stars.

Great for babies and my 2 year old likes it, too. There are different things to feel on every page, not just the same thing in a different color. And there are just the right amount of words, and the rhymes are really cute. I highly recommend this book.

excellent book 5 out of 5 stars.

Our son loves this book and so do we. We really enjoy reading it to him and it doesn't get boring like many other books. We got it when he was 6 months and now he is 11 months and he picks it all the time for us to read. I look for other books hoping they will be just as good but so far this is his absolute best. We very much reccomend it!

Editorial Review:

From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!
This touch-and-feel book invites babies and toddlers to pet and play with the most imaginative pets of all. Based on Dr. Seuss’s celebrated classic, this book of pettable pets has fur, feathers, flaps, slide tabs, and cardboard rings to ring Dr. Seuss’s adorable antlered Gack! From the Zed with just one hair on its head and the Wink that likes to drink pink ink, to the bluehaired pet that is fun to brush–the whole family will love bringing these

Delightful 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a delight for kids and adults. It's fun to read out loud, with goofy creature names like yottle, nooth grush and quimney. I've read it many times to my two kids without getting tired of it. The artwork is fun and playful. What else would you expect from Dr. Seuss?

fun book 5 out of 5 stars.

All right book, rhyming book with creatures, but a bit pointless 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My 4 year old daughter is quite interested in this book but doesn't really like it. She keeps hoping, (I think) that there is more too it.

The joy in this book is that it is all about rhymes, nureau's in the bureau, tellar, sellar, bellar etc in the cellar and so on. Which is a nice early rhyme style story - learning about sounds and I guess you could say the texture and rules of language. However the story is almost pointless. Some of these animals are good and some aren't - but it is difficult to tell while - the Nofa on the Sofa is apparently an animal he doesn't like, but it just appears to be reading a book quietly.

I found the illustrations a bit unsatisfying as well. They are in colour, but when I compare them to the glorious detail of Horton Hatches an Egg (which is only coloured in three colours) then the Wocket in the Pocket does not match by any stretch of the imagination.

It is a simple easy story to rattle off at bedtime, it teaches rhyme but it doesn't inspire my children.

Best Dr. Seuss Book ever written 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I first read this book when I was a little girl. I was really impressed with it then, of all the Dr. Seuss books I thought it was the best because of the message. The poor moose is so soft-hearted, he lets everyone take advantage of him. It has a wonderful message for children to learn about "users". If you only read one Dr. Seuss book to your children, read them this one.

Wonderfully funny lesson for kids 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is so appropriate today, maybe more than when it was written in 1948 (a response to the New Deal, perhaps?)! I'm sure I appreciate the message (beware of freeloaders!!) more than my kids, but they enjoy the story and the pictures (as always) are priceless. Dr. Seuss was a national treasure and his books are all terrific.

My favorite Dr Seuss book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is my favorite Dr Seuss book (even though I discovered it only a few months ago). The story and pictures are excellent and (importantly) it is particularly easy and fun to read aloud.

Unfortunately, this book is advertised as being suitable for 5-8 year olds only - NOT TRUE! This book is for ANYONE of ANY AGE who enjoys stories.

One for Joseph Campbell 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This was my favorite Dr. Seuss, and one of the books that stuck with me. I came across it recently while I also happened to be reading Campbell's Transformations of Myth Through Time.

A young man, beset with the travails of life, sets off to find paradise. The premise having been set, this story is actually predominantly about his many encounters and experiences on the road to paradise -- how he gets conned, imperiled, left to the mercy of the elements, enlisted into a battle he has nothing to do with, lost and alone in a crowd, etc. Having risen to the occasion repeatedly, he arrives at (literally) the door to paradise a changed man. In the end, Dr. Seuss leaves open question of what paradise really is.

This is an archetypal Hero's Journey.

And there is another parallel. Campbell often talked about the danger of concretizing the symbols -- for example that there is a physical holy land, the place where your myth takes place, to which you as a human being must physically travel to touch divinity. The alternative is to recognize your myth as metaphoric, and to recognize that the divinity of your God is your own divinity, and to sanctify and make holy the land and the place where you are, etc. 'Solla Sollew' speaks to this theme.

This book was one of my all-time favorites when I was a kid! It was so exciting... very mysterious and magical. And full of goo! What kid doesn't love goo? Every kid needs a book like this.

One of the best kids' books, ever. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book with "The King's Stilts" (see my review). I think this is one of the best kids' books ever, and my kids loved it when they were small. It was a sad day when our record of it got buckled by being left in the sun. Unavailable as a book when my kids were little, this is a delightful story with a typical Dr Seuss moral ending - change is not always for the best and novelty is fraught with peril. Get it for your kids, or your grandkids - they will love it, just as I, my kids, and my grandkids do!

Editorial Review:

Illus. in color by the author. An ooey-gooey, green oobleck was not exactly what the king had in mind when he ordered something extra-special from his royal magicians.

Popular wtih my under 5 year olds 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am not quite sure what is most appealing to my children, the rhymes or the ridiculously whimsical illustrations - they love the Zike-bike and the zumblezay the best. My 2 year old goes around singing the word 'Zumblezay'over and over so just the sound of it is obviously appealing.

I am not sure I like the concept of it much - it is telling Marvin K Mooney to go - and in no uncertain terms ("Just go go go please do do do") for instance

HOwever the book is effective in so many ways - it really interests my kids and they enjoy browsing it on their own. It has a nice rhyme to it which changes its cadence in parts adding emphasis and interest. It has the fun and whimsical illustrations which strange contraptions so loved by Dr Seuss and generations of children.

It might not be the best 'message' but I think that is lost in the sheer good fun of the writing and illustration. My kids enjoy it and so do I.

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. In merry verse and illustrations, Marvin is asked to leave by every conceivable means of transportation.

A Great Primer for More Advanced Readers - a review of "I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today!" 4 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

"I Can Lick 30 Tigers Today!" is a fun Dr. Seuss book which contains three stories and 1365 words. The book's Accelerated Reading designation is given as 2.9 which means the text is suitable for children reading at an advanced Second Grade level. [2.9 translates as a book that an "average" child should be able to read when in the 9th month of 2nd Grade. It can be enjoyed by people of any age, of course.]

At our house the stories were met with almost universal praise from both the 6 and 8 year old. And what's nice about Seuss books, besides the rampant craziness, is the fact that children often forget how many words they are reading as they work away at finding out what happens.

Summary ::: A fun Seuss reader which contains three stories. The AR designation is 2.9 but the word-magic of story and rhyme makes this book appropriate for non-reading children as well.

Do you really want George Costanza reading to your kids? 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love Dr. Seuss, and especially Green Eggs and Ham, but I do not like to hear it in Jason Alexander's voice! The recording was very distracting for my son (age 2), who kept looking at the stereo instead of the book. He prefers mommy or daddy to read the book to him. Also, I did not realize this book was paperback, not hardcover, which means it will be destroyed very quickly. Buy the hardcover with no CD instead -- the CD is worthless.

The worst translation I've ever seen 1 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is a put-down to the Spanish language. It is literally translated- word-for-word, and obviously that does not work with any kind of translation. The translator has to use his/her discretion to transmit the message through whatever type of medium they are working with. In this case, Dr. Seuss's writing is playful and rhyming- this translation does not do this book any justice. They should really never have published this. Even as a non-native speaker of Spanish, I know that this translation is not well-done. My suggestion-- go read "Huevos verdes con jamon", which is wonderful.

No Spanish rhyme, but still worthwhile 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Even though the Spanish portions don't rhyme, I still found the book a worthwhile tool for working with those gaining proficiency in reading the Spanish language. Because it doesn't go to lengths to make it rhyme, the English concepts are easier for beginners to find in the Spanish wording, and the words are easier to grasp the meaning of without a dictionary.

Teacher's two thumbs down 1 out of 5 stars.

The translation of this book is horrible! It is literally translated and doesn't even rhyme. Dr. Seuss would be very disappointed!!!

Try "Huevos verdes con jamón".

Oh, Say I Can't Say 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book was one of my husbands favorites when he was growing up, and now that we are expecting a child he wanted our son to have the same experience. He was so excited when it arrived that he read it to me as a bedtime story. The riddles start out easy, but by the end of the book your tongue is so twisted it's hard to say anything!! It's a lot of fun and we really look forward to hearing our son try to say these riddles when he learns to speak.

My favorite children's book to read aloud! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book captures literary genius in the form of childish tongue twisters. It proves to be an excellent practice of diction and reading rhythm while providing extreme entertainment for the little listener. The love of words is the beginning of all great literary accomplishment, and this child's book is a step in the right direction.

We are big Doctor Seuss fans and are attempting to get the entire collection for our daughter. Like the book, just too similar to Fox in Socks. Nothing but tongue twisters and no real story.
Great to have if your trying to collect all Dr Seuss books. If completing the collection is not important to you, I would only chose this if you don't already have Fox in Socks
