What's wrong with this picture 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Another simple Seuss book that explores concepts of numbers, and encourages children to look at finer detail. The pictures are simple so that things wrong with the picture are easily found, each rhyme gives messages to the child about what they should be looking for, how many items etc.
Amusing.

Wacky Wednesday
By Dr. Seuss

This book has been one of my family's all time favorites. When my children were young, they asked me to read it over and over, while they tried to spot all the wacky things. When they learned to read, they read this book again and again.

Whenever anything out of the ordinary happens in our family, we still say, "It must be Wacky Wednesday".

When my son became a father, this is the first book he bought for his son.

Children will love solving the mystery that is called "Wacky Wednesday".

Disappointing 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

While the illustrations are cute, Dr. Suess's ABC's did not hold my 4-year-old's attention. I was disappointed that the book didn't use simpler language, so beginning readers could try sounding out some words on their own.

Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby

Not a great early reader, but a fun readaloud for those learning the alphabet 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

You know the format of abecedarians. Each letter is illustrated with a rhyme - it might be a sentence describing the scene (Silly Sammy Slick sipped six sodas and got sick sick sick) or a list of various items in the picture that start with the letter (Big N, little n, what begins with those? Nine new neckties, and a nightshirt, and a nose).

Very typically Seussian, really great read-aloud - neither too long nor too short.

Please note that I do not recommend the board book. They arbitrarily edited some of the rhymes (never for the better), and anyway, it's poorly constructed and likely to fall apart. Just get the real book. You'll thank me later.

sounds."--Booklist.

Innovative 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a very innovative and creative book. The artistic value along with a great story, keeps my son wanting me to read this book every night. It is great to see that David A. Carter keeps the story intact while providing beautiful pop-ups. Just make sure you're child is old enough not to destroy the pop-ups as you read.

Editorial Review:

This pop-up adaptation of the popular Seuss story is published in conjunction with the release of the long-awaited animated feature film Horton Hears a Who! Unlike other pop-up adaptations that use text abridgments, this book contains the complete text of Horton Hears a Who! David A. Carter has skillfully followed Seuss’s signature pacing by alternating five big, blow-out pop-ups with 11 booklets, pull tabs galore, and many special effects. In all, ten glorious spreads bring this classic to life in magnificent full color. Also available in a deluxe limited edition with a special pop-up, a full-cloth binding and full-cloth slipcase, signed and numbered by David A. Carter.

Too small, but good translation 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this book to share with our two-year old son, who loves every single Dr Seuss book. We are raising him in French and English.
I was disappointed by the format: really too small for very young children and little hands, but as a native French speaker, I am delighted with the translation. And that is really what matters. I wish there were many more Dr Seuss books translated.

Nice to read in French 5 out of 5 stars.

Great French version 5 out of 5 stars.

I was introduced to Dr Seuss by my husband a long time ago. Just got the French version of one of the books and thought it did a great job translating the humor and play of words.

Great little book.

Great! 5 out of 5 stars.

TERRIFIC LIGHT VERSE! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This is a WONDERFUL book that deserves to be as widely read as Seuss' best-known books. The verbose, sprawling, exhuberant light verse is fantastic all by itself, and the illustrations are as strange and wonderful as any of Seuss'. One of the illustrations made me laugh out loud.

Certain myopic adults with no imagination will give themselves ulcers over the fact that this book describes (a) eating the eggs of fanciful birds, (b) cutting down a tree, and (c) knocking down a mountain. But children, and adults who are young at heart, will understand that it's all pretend.

If you enjoy light verse and Seuss' illustrations, Scrambled Eggs Super is not to be missed.

scrambled eggs definitely NOT super 1 out of 5 stars.
7 of 49 people found this review helpful.

The message in this book is very outdated and a nightmare to anyone interested in preserving the environment. I love Dr. Seuss and ordered many of the books for my son. This one however I have to send back. The little boy, not content with hens' eggs, travels far and wide to snatch the eggs of countless rare and exotic birds. He prys off a mountain top to get at one bird, and cuts down an enormous tree (old-growth dimensions) to get at another. And he collects literally thousands of eggs, just to cook up for himself and perhaps his family. This story may have been funny when it was written almost 50 years ago, but today it describes little more than environmental destruction and selfish waste. This is definitely not the message I want to give my son, and I am sending back this book.

One of my favorites 5 out of 5 stars.

This is my favorite Seuss book (yes, I say that about all of them). Year after year I buy this for my friends' kids, but I think it's a great book for an adult library, too.

Wonderful Story I had somehow missed 5 out of 5 stars.

I thought I knew all the Dr. Seuss books, but this one came to my attention recently and I had never heard of it before. I bought it immediately in order to read it to my youngest daughter before she outgrows children's books. She loved the story and I had one more wonderful message to give her from Dr. Seuss, "Keep thinking of all the wonderful things that are possible!"

Classic Dr. Suess 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a classic Dr. Suess book from my childhood. I have read it over and over again to my kids, and now I am reading it to my grandchildren. This book ranks right up there with The Cat in the Hat for entertainment value, for some reason it was a Dr. Suess book that wasn't as well known. Thank goodness my grandmother was a librarian and sent it to me for my 5th birthday. Your kids will LOVE this book, and adults actually enjoy reading it, too!

FUNTASTIC! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is one of Dr. Suess's books written under his pseudonym Rosetta Stone. This book shows once again what an amazingly clever man he was. Each of my children love this book. And I just finished reading it to my youngest son's preschool class. They enjoyed it so much they asked me to read it a second time! It is a fun and extremely enjoyable book for everyone!!!

Fun and silly 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My [...] loves this book. You can have so much fun with it as the book builds from a little bug sneezing to a out of control circus parade. The rhymes are well-done. Good for all ages.

Great for Rhythm and Rhyme, preschoolers like it 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The consequences were far reaching and wide ranging when one little bug sneezed - just what happens, it ripples out and are quite fun. The illustrations are rich and warm, soft curves and good colours with lots going on in each to maintain interest in repeated readings of it.

This has beautiful rhythm to it and is easy for children to get predictive about, learning to anticipate and the value of language, and rhythm.

As an adult I get a bit bored with it - it is quite fun but not for repeated readings, but it is high on the reading request list at home so it gets read repeatedly at the moment.

Editorial Review:

Started by Seuss, finished by Jack Prelutsky, and splendiferously illustrated by Lane Smith, this is the children's book publishing event of the year! Big--56 pages--and bursting with energy, here is a joyous ode to individuality, starring an unsinkable teacher named Miss Bonkers and quirky little Diffendoofer School, which must prove it has taught its students how to think--or have them sent to dreary Flobbertown. Included is an introduction by Dr. Seuss's longtime editor explaining how the book came to be and reproducing Dr. Seuss's 1989 original pencil sketches and hand-printed notes for the book--a true find for all Seuss collectors. In Hooray for Diffendoofer Day! Jack Prelutsky and Lane Smith pay homage to Dr. Seuss in their own distinctive ways. The result is the union of three one-of-a-kind voices in a brand-new, completely original book that is greater than the sum of its parts. For all of us who will never forget our school days and that special teacher, here is a book to give and to get.

Cute 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book is adorable. The elephant is actually a little puppet! You can wiggle his ears and twirl his trunk as well as move his mouth. It doesn't all rhyme like I was hoping, but it's still a pretty cute book. Kinda corny, but when you're reading to your baby it doesn't really matter. :)

No real story, but plush Horton is adorable 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I haven't read the original, and I don't really get the story. We bought this because Horton is a puppet, and my 15 month old son, who is not usually affectionate with stuffed animals and the like, gives Horton kisses every time we read it. Mostly we use this book to play, wiggling the ears, twirling the trunk, and don't worry about the text (which is not some of the better text in the Dr. Seuss Nursery Collection). The pages are difficult to turn because of the puppet, but we work through it. ;)

Horton Hears a Who! Can You? 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased three books and received them promptly. My grandchildren and Great Niece loved the books. They had just seen the movie and they were happy to have a book with Horton. Thank you for the great service as always.

fine children's book that helps them learn so much... 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I Am Not Going To Get Up Today (Beginner Books) by Dr. Seuss is a whimsical fantasy tale that should appeal to very young children. As another reviewer notes, young kids are full of energy; they don't truly want to stay in bed and this book won't encourage them to do that, either. However, the story makes a great fantasy and the book is also a solid educational tool for children learning to read.

The story is relatively simple; a young boy is tired and he wants to take the day off and lounge in bed. He is rather obstinate; even his mother and a cop can't get him out of bed! Along the way, the young child learns a lot about the English language and reading--and that's great.

Children are introduced to names of places including Paris, Massachusetts, Berlin, Alaska, China, Spain and more! This can easily generate a conversation with your child about what foreign (or distant) places are like; and the child can get a good basic understanding that the world is really a very large place with many different cultures.

This book also teaches children the sounds that some things make. For example, the book, usually through the use of text that rhymes, mentions how birds "peep;" how an alarm clock "rings;" how a bed can be "warm" and how a pillow can be "deep." Great!

I suppose that for some very active children the idea of a child taking a rest in bed could show them an example of the importance of learning to rest.

Overall, I Am Not Going To Get Up Today is another fine children's book by the great Dr. Seuss; and I recommend this book heartily for parents to read with their very young children. The book is an excellent educational tool that helps children learn to read and understand words, places and other concepts like "warm" and "deep."

Great job, Dr. Seuss!

Editorial Review:

Illus. in full color. "A rhyming story that is full of laughs. 'The alarm can ring. The birds can peep....Today's the day I'm going to sleep,' says a lazy boy one morning, and despite a pail of icy water, television coverage, and the arrival of the Marines, he vows to stay in bed--and he does! The repetition of concepts and words will keep children turning the pages, as will the energetic drawings. A sure draw for early readers."--Booklist.
