One of the coolest books I've ever read 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

OK, so say you have a 10 year old, who thinks she is 14, and you have friends who have a 14 year old who thinks any book on 'faith and morals' must be boring. Oh you could so change their mind with this book. My 10 year old begs me to read chapters to her in the car with her friends there - WHY? Because Justin Lookadoo is funny and hip/cool/happening/whatever your teenager says. I bought this book because I had met Justin Lookadoo at a booksellers convention, he's hard to miss. 6' 7" tall- not wide - and greatly weird looking. I thought anyone who looks like that and loves God...gets my attention. Then I saw his pic on the cover of this book in our Church Bookstore, and flipping through the book I saw how cool it looked not at all like a 'traditional' devotional book. And I was sold. I read three chapters to my family in the car on the way home. Read two more chapters to my friend the next day who is going to buy this book for her high school Bible Study. I predict this book will sell millions, and I plan on buying a great number for myself and friends. It's just the coolest book I've ever read for a devotional for teenagers, or those who wish they were teenagers, or those who rememer the teenage years! BUY IT NOW. You won't regret it. And you know "live with no regrets."

Editorial Review:

Skydiving. Ducks. Unexpected love. Falling down stairs. Doorknobs. Compassion. Duct tape.

What do all these random things have in common? Nothing--duh, that's what makes them random. But they all do come from the random and yet somehow oh-so-thought-provoking mind of Justin Lookadoo. And they somehow add up to a mind-altering and life-rearranging picture of what faith has to do with it all.

Whether you read these chapters one a day, one a week, or completely out of order, 97: Random Thoughts about Life, Love & Relationships is all about you stepping up. It's all about you digging deeper, growing bigger, and living with no regrets. Dive in. I dare you.

Editorial Review:

Sometimes the answers aren’t enough. Sometimes you want to know why they’re the answers.

Any Bible can answer questions. This is the one that explains why those answers are the answers.

The answers to what? To the questions you’ve been asking your parents, your teachers, your friends … yourself. What’s life all about and where do I fit in? What’s my life all about, and where do God, family, friends, and all the rest fit in? How do I know God even exists, and what do the life and death of Jesus have to do with me right here, right now? If God loves us all, why should I bother taking my Catholicism seriously? If all religions are pretty much the same, why be a Catholic at all?

Here is the inspired Word of God. Here is what God has revealed to us about himself simply because he loves us so much. Here is what the Catholic Church teaches about the Bible and Tradition and why it teaches those things. Why the Bible matters not just in the life of the Church but in your life. Here is how to read the Bible – how to understand, to "de-code," what its authors were saying to their particular audiences thousands of years ago. How to truly hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to you today.

"The Bible matters?" Yes. "Prove it!" That’s exactly what this book does as it takes a frank and honest look at God, Jesus, Church, prayer … and you.

I love this version!
It's one of the better ones as far as the translation goes...

I also love this one for it's cover... I have 3 kids, and when I go to church I am holding hands and can't hang onto a bible as well...

This one is perfect! I keep it in my purse, and it gets banged around all the time, but never get messed up!

The cover has yet to open on me when I didn't want it to! LOVE IT!

Sweet Bible 5 out of 5 stars.

This was very nice. I got it engraved with my son's name at a local jeweler's, and he loved it! I would highly recommend.

Strong Devotional 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's a strong daily devotional for teens, but there isn't a lot of depth to it. If you are looking for a 10 minute get in touch with God, this is it. However, it doesn't provide much depth or digging deeper into God's attributes. It does deal with a lot of issues that many teens run into in a secular world: lust, peer pressure, lust, sin, lust.... You get the point, much on lust, which is a huge temptation at the age this is targeted toward.

Editorial Review:

Josh McDowell's Beyond Belief message is the foundation to launch a spiritual revolution among youth. This is a revolution to equip churches and families to raise up a generation of the cross--young people who have been transformed by Christ and the cross, who are empowered to live crossgrain to the culture and are committed to share Christ across all cultures.

Sixteen stand-alone products make up an entire family of resources that churches need to launch a church-wide revolution. These products are directed to every age group from 5 to 105, and help equip church groups and families with the tools to lead their children and youth to become transformed, passionate followers of Christ.

In this second installment of Josh's best-selling youth devotions, Josh provides 365 daily encounters with the one true God who is beyond our belief in love and grace.

Out of the Mouths of Teenagers 5 out of 5 stars.
25 of 25 people found this review helpful.

This book contains 60 devotions written by teenagers. I have two teenagers, and we read them as family devotions around the dinner table. The devotions are short (but not too short), cover contemporary issues of interest to teenagers, and are written in language that teenagers can understand. The book is aimed at high school students and is equally good for both sexes. The book is published by the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, but the devotions cover issues of Christian living rather than doctrine and are good for all denominations. (I am a Presbyterian minister's daughter who attended a Reformed Church college and married into the Lutheran Church, so I can say that with confidence.)

Teens will love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a Sunday School teacher for High School aged kids. I bought this book hoping to use it at the beginning of my classes as a 5 minute devotion. Right away it turned into the entire lesson each week. The devotions are wonderful, and really sparked some great conversations from the youth. I highly recommend this book!

Editorial Review:

Live Life Loud!

You passed that same ol’ bum on the street this morning. You sat next to some smelly girl on the subway last night. You ordered a burger from a worn-out cashier over your lunch hour. What do you think about these people? What does God think about them? My 30 Days Under the Overpass is not a devotional you will read in your quiet time, then carry on with your day. It’s something you’ll actually do—all day, every day—because these thirty days will rock you. Intense reflection on God’s thoughts and feelings toward the poor, broken, and downtrodden will change you…and you will begin to change the world. Not on your next mission trip. Not at church next Sunday. But right here, right now.

Ask It.

How do you treat others—those you like, know, don’t know, don’t like? Those who fall into your comfort zone, and those who shove you outside of it?

Read It.

Mike Yankoski and his buddy, Sam, chose to become homeless to discover their answer.

Think It.

Would you go sleep under a bridge in the rain? Would you panhandle for your next meal? Would you help those who do?

Believe It.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me,” said Jesus (Matthew 25:45).

Live It.

This is not your average devotional. You’ll read it, but you’ll also do it. Get ready for a life change that will change lives.

“Mike takes Christ at His word, and challenges you to summon the courage to live the real Christian faith.”

Dean R. Hirsch, President, World Vision International

Story Behind the Book

“Is God enough to sustain me? Is He trustworthy? Is He worth staking my life on? What happens if I die? Will I even survive? Such questions rang loudly in my mind as Sam and I decided to lay down everything in a full embrace of the homeless life. Some experiences were uncomfortable, some shocking, some disturbing, some hilarious, and still others frustrating. But five months of life on the streets has left us, our faith, and our lives forever changed. We’ve been back from the streets for two years, and now this devotional makes it possible for people to make real-life changes. It contains stories and reflections not included in Under the Overpass .” —Mike Yankoski

Just read it 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a wonderful book, the whole series is wonderful. If you don't like tear-jerkers then don't read it, or any of them. Together, all of the books work to show an image that many books of this kind leave out. They tell a story.

Audrey S. review 5 out of 5 stars.

I liked this book. It was funny and sad. It made me want to keep reading to find out what happened next in the story.
Dawn is 13 and was just tested for cancer. The tests are back and she has leukemia. She has to stay in the hospital until she goes into remission. In the hospital Dawn has a roommate named Sandy. They become best friends and do everything together. The day came and Sandy went into remission. A few days later Dawn went into remission too. Both girls decided to go to cancer came together. They had the time of their life there. Dawn and Sandy met two really cute guys and liked the a lot. Once camp was over Sandy had a relapse.
I would recommend this book to someone who likes to read sad books because the ending is really sad.

Great inexpensive Catholic Bible for teens & graduates! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I'm a Catholic religious education teacher for high schoolers. I find this particular Bible to be a GREAT inexpensive Bible to give to junior high school, high school, and college-aged Catholic kids because not only is it an NAB (New American Bible, which means that it has very helpful footnotes, is a very accurate translation, gives great summaries and background info for each book of the Bible, and has the impramateur) but it also has a Q&A section at the front that is written in a style that teens will definitely be able to relate to and answers questions that will certainly come up for them at some point about the what and why of basic Catholic beliefs, dealing with depression, answers about premarital sex & chastity, abortion, drug & alcohol use, what Catholics believe about the Pope and why, what Catholics believe about Mary & the Saints and why, etc. I'm giving one of these to each of the graduating seniors in my class this year (I wish I could afford to give one to each kid in my class -- not just the seniors!) I'm also going to give it to three nieces who are graduating this year. I thought about giving them classier-looking fake-leather-type Bibles with their name imprinted on the front, but I think that this Bible will be much more useful to them in the long run because of the great Q&A section (about 100 pages or so) in the front; and even though I doubt that any one of "my" kids would pick up a Bible and read it now (they pretty much come to R.E. classes grudgingly and disagree with much of what the Church teaches about morality), I think that there will come a time when they WILL pick it up and browse through it, or look for specific answes in it. This Bible is an answer to my prayers to find just the right graduation gifts for these kids! (I had just about decided on "Did Adam & Eve Have Bellybuttons?" -- which would have been a great choice, too, although I really wanted to give them a Bible -- before I found this Bible.

Editorial Review:
