Odin's BEST 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

You will find not only Norse myths in this book, but Teutonic tales as well. The drawings are incredible, as in all children's books. Adults will not be disappointed with this one, and children will be pleased to hear the exciting stories within. A MUST have for Norse mythology book collectors. An oldie but GOODIE! Classic and captivating. What else can I say? . . . I'm buying another one incase I lose my present copy-THAT IS HOW GOOD IT IS! I also reccomend My Viking Book by Ruth Harshaw. Hard to find and quite old, but it is THE best children's book EVER! Don't miss either of them.

Buyer Beware !!!!!! 3 out of 5 stars.

Buyer beware ! This Alladin Publication is the same as the Dover Publication Nordic Gods and Heroes. However, it is lacking much of the original artwork, especially that which introduces each of the four parts.
The first 3 parts are Norse mythology and the 4th is the Teutonic Ring of the Nibelungs. This book was written for children and young adults and gives only a bare bones telling of the myths. Be prepared for some archaic language : "dost", "spake", "knowst", etc.

Why Amazon chooses to sell these two books as a pair is beyond me as they are essentially identical. I recommend the Dover edition because of the extra artwork.

Editorial Review:

A retelling of the Norse sagas about Odin, Freya, Thor, Loki and the other gods and gaddesses who lived in Asgard before the dawn of time.

FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book is awesome. I sat down almost a whole day and just read this book. I love how it had three different stories in it. I loved all of them i really liked the baby one and i wish tha she would like write like what happens afterwards and so on. She is such a good author i wonder how she gets all these inspiration.

Editorial Review:

The star that led the three wise men could be the same star wished upon by those longing for a wish to come true. In the opening novella, "Christmas Child," 15-year-old Melanie feels cheated when her baby sister, born at Christmastime, lives only a few days. But the brief life of her sister shows Melanie the lasting value of love. Brenda struggles between noble intentions and real desires when she becomes the last chance for happiness for a dying boy in "Last Dance." The final story, "Kathy's Life," describes a girl who appears to have it all. Kathy is beautiful, intelligent, and has the perfect job as a live-in caregiver for a couple's baby boy. But not everything is as perfect as it seems: Should Kathy give up the one person she loves most in the world?

A Good Book for teens, but why such a long wait from the third one? 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul books are usually inspirational. Teenagers can relate to their stories in ways unimaginable. It's a great book for teens to read so that they know that they're normal. It was why I read them when I was younger and why some stories still hold true today.

It's great to pick up the fourth one. More stories on love, relationships, friendships, family, and on the occasion, tough stuff.

What I'm disappointed with is why it took so long to get the fourth one out. It was a four year wait! I loved the first three books, I could relate to them at the time of reading them. Four years ago I was fourteen going on fifteen, those are some of the years where every teen really should read these books (it's the time of drama and the all time famous threat for suicide). A teenager needs a book to let him/her know their life isn't all that bad, and that what happens to them really does happen to everyone else.

The stories in this one, for those who were like me and read them as they came out, have no bearing anymore. For older teenagers around seventeen to nineteen years old, like myself, the stories aren't nearly as inspirational as they could be anymore. Part of it really IS due to it's late release. Those of us who enjoyed the first three when they came out... have grown up! Although, a part of me still yearns for teen stories because I went and picked this up, but I don't want to read a story and say to myself, "Been there done that." I want to read a story and say, "I can relate." That's lost in this compilation, and perhaps it's because I'm eighteen as opposed to fourteen.

In short, the stories ARE good, but the older teen doesn't gain or learn from them. As an older teen you probably already know. I did enjoy the stories, though, for the sheer fact that I know the people who wrote them probably learned. However, I can't help but express my disappointment that they lost the ability to touch me in the way they used to.

For the younger teens this is gold found at the end of the rainbow. Take it home and enjoy it. For the teens who have been there since the beginning, the stories are gold, but not life changing anymore. Either way, I recommend picking this up. Each story is charming in it's own way.

Editorial Review:

We all have a story to tell. We often judge our own stories as being good or bad, right or wrong. The truth is, each and every one of them not only holds meaning for us but for those around us as well. Chicken Soup for The Teenage Soul IV is filled with such stories: what it really means to be a teenager in today's world.

Are you having a tough time with your best friend? Trying to get your crush to notice you? Recovering from a heart-wrenching breakup? Are you dealing with something even more difficult, like coping with the death of someone you love? Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul IV shows you that you're not alone. You'll see yourself in these stories filled with compassion, love and wisdom from teens who have made it through the hard times and triumphed.

These are real stories about real life you won't want to put down 'til you've read the last page.

My opinion of Happiness is a Choice 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I feel that the title expresses the content very well. For those who are going through depression or will be in the future, there are steps given that can cure it. Also, in general the book gives suggestions on how to choose happiness. Itis a choice available to all.

This book is disgraceful 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 7 people found this review helpful.

It really upsets me when people release stuff like this; it should come with a warning DON'T READ unless you are a fantic christian.

Its disturbing because the people reading this are more likely to be depressed and looking for help, which is why I picked up this book. But to have phrases in it like;
"his sons become homosexuals and eventually commit suicide"

Is wrong, misleading and could potentially do untold damage.

I love books, but would quite happily burn this one.

Editorial Review:

Happiness is a Choice is a clinically-proven, non-technical guidebook for families, as well as a resource for pastors, counselors, and family physicans, helping people realize that happiness is a matter of choice and not only of circumstances.

"THE" Teen Bible 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This is a GREAT Bible for teens because it is understandable, yet not cheesy. I love it! It makes it understandable and it includes a Bible Study plan showing what book of the bible to start and show how often you should read to finish it in 1 year or 2 years. Also includes real life situations...questions, answers, THIS is the book you need to get through LIFE!!

Makes you WANT to read the Bible... 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 11 people found this review helpful.

The Bible normally seems confusing, rigid, and boring. This Bible is quite the opposite! The bible is colorful, easy-to read and UNDERSTAND! It definately makes the bible enjoyable and fun. The notes and other added things really help teens. I got this Bible as a 18 year old and still interesting at 19(although I am thinking about up-grading to a Woman's Bible).

Definately recommend to any pre-teen or teen!

Editorial Review:

- The best-selling Bible for teens ages 12-15 because of it's relevancy and application - Color insert pages give biblical answers to the toughest questions asked by today's teens - Other features include The Bible Says (issues, facts, and questions), Direct Line (commentary and application), Dear Sam (advice column), Quizzers (Bible trivia)

Editorial Review:

Being a teenager is difficult even under idyllic circumstances.  But when bad things happen, the challenges of being a teenager can be overwhelming, leading to self-destructive behavior, eating disorders, substance abuse, and other challenges.  In addition, many teens are faced with illness, car accidents, the loss of loved ones, divorces, or other upheavals, and the obstacles to happiness can seem insurmountable.  Reading about the challenges in this book will help teens support themselves and learn about what their friends might be experiencing.

The first Chicken Soup for the Soul book was published in 1993, and became a publishing industry sensation, ultimately selling eight million copies.  The company went on to publish more than 150 Chicken Soup titles, selling more than 100 million copies, and becoming a household name.

Chicken Soup for the Soul has won dozens of awards over the past 15 years, and its founders, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen have become celebrity motivational speakers and authors.

A Very Helpful Book 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Have you ever wondered how to explain the 10 commandments to children? If so, this is the book for you.

The Sixth Commandment (You Shall Not Commit Adultery) always seems a little difficult to explain to small children, but this book does this in a beautiful way.

An excerpt: " God blesses marriage between a man and a woman. When two people get married God gives them to each other. This is very special! They would not want to go out and get somebody else!...............He wants us to keep ourselves pure. What does it mean to stay pure? Well....we respect other people by treating them with dignity.................We wear clothing that covers our bodies well, and we make good entertainment decisions. We choose TV shows, movies, magazines, and games that are clean and wholesome............."

This is only a small taste of what this book teaches. I highly recommend it for children, catechists, parents, and grandparents.

Excellent Introduction to God's Rules for Life 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Growing up, I had a hazy understanding of the 10 Commandments and how these rules from thousands of years ago apply to modern situations. This book does an excellent job at explaining them in language that young children can understand. For example, greed violates the 1st Commandment ("You shall not have strange gods before Me") because it is putting love of money before love of God. Watching violent TV shows or movies violates the 5th Commandment ("You shall not kill") because it teaches us to not care about other people. Wearing immodest clothing violates the 6th Commandment ("You shall not commit adultery") because it tempts others to be impure. Gossip violates the 7th Commandment ("You shall not steal") because it steals someone's reputation. I highly recommend this book for use in a Catholic homeschool program or as a supplement to a parish CCD program.

Editorial Review:

Does God really bless a nation that honors him? In From Sea to Shining Sea, Peter Marshall and David Manuel take us back to the post-revolutionary era to reveal how God intervened on behalf of our struggling young nation.

During this fifty-year period, Daniel Boone, Andrew Jackson, Sam Houston, and other American heroes carved out their place in history. Conestoga wagons and circuit riders became famous, Indian wars and slavery were major concerns, and the Louisiana Purchase and the Oregon Trail expanded Americas borders from sea to shining sea. The authors tell how Gods hand was evident in these and other key moments in the shaping of the young nation.

Marshall and Manuels stirring historical account of Gods working in America has found a large and loyal readership. This fast-paced, absorbing narrative tells not only how Americas divine plan became downgraded and its future threatened by greed, pride, and self-righteousness, but how in the midst of all this turmoil, God raised up the right men to shape the political structure and moral character that make America Gods country.

An audio version read by Peter Marshall is available on two 90-minute cassettes.

Editorial Review:

School: It's frustrating, it's boring, it's embarrassing. But it's also thought provoking, challenging and full of possible friends. And until you turn 18, like it or not, it's just about your whole life.

So wha's the deal?

Chicken Soup for the Soul knows that school is more than classes and tests. It's also a social scene, filled with cliques, clubs and life-changing decisions (or so it seems this week). It's where you meet your best friends…and run into your worst enemies. And it’s an opportunity to figure out what you want to do—whether it's kick a soccer ball, play the trombone or act in a play.

Sometimes it's overwhelming and confusing, but don't worry, it's like that for everyone. That's what the stories in this book are all about. They’re from real teens, and they're about the bizarre, embarrassing and sometimes triumphant things that really happened to them. And they’re here to give you some perspective on everything that goes down at your school...and outside of it, too.

Put that together with weird facts, cool graphics, fun advice and quizzes designed to help you figure out who you are and what you're up to, and you've got the real deal on school—full of all the laughter, tears and daily drama that life is all about.

New cool format!

More great stories!

I had no idea such a type of Bible existed until I ran across them at a Christian Book store yesterday. My son and my nephew were glued to them in the car all the way home. They said that they thought the Bibles were so awesome and they didn't realize that being a Christian could be "cool". Then they found out that Christian music can be cool too.... they thought this kind of life was going to be boring! Boy were they surprised!
