greatest book ever!! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book was totally awesome and I advise people to read it. It was one of the best books I have ever read and it gave me alot of advice through the very interesting stories they provided. This book was my favorite out of the "chicken noodle soup for the teenage soul" series. I really enjoyed reading it, for me it was one of those books that are so good you can't put it down. I really recommend this book if you like real life situations where you can really seem to realate to at least some of the stories. It feels like you have been in these sort of situations before and the stories kind of put you in the other person's shoes. This book made me feel sorry or happy for the main people in these stories and they made me think about my life and if I am hurting people or I made them feel the way some of the characters do. Long story short I really loved this book it had romance, tragedy, horror, suspense, and well... you get the idea, but it made me love it and I am sure if you read it you will feel the same as I did about this book.

Editorial Review:

The third volume in the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul series promises more love, support and inspiration for the series' loyal readers. More and more, life is a struggle for teens. Not just dealing with the tragedies that seem to plague them so often, but also handling the daily pressures that pervade their lives. This book, like the first two volumes in the series, will help them, and will serve as their guide and constant companion.

Chapters focus on love, friendship, family, tough stuff, growing up, kindness, learning lessons and making a difference. In keeping with the themes and content of the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul series, teens will also find support, encouragement and understanding from their peers, as well as from caring and compassionate adults.

Really Cool Bible for Teens!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this Bible for my daughter. She and another girl in her youth group here in Sweden (we are Americans serving over seas) shared it with some of the other girls and it has actually become top of the other girls wish lists for their birthdays! It has practical stories the girls can relate to and thought provoking questions that are appropriately worded. Other bibles I have looked at sometimes discuss things in ways that I would prefer talking to my daughter about. This uses the Word only! Great Word of God!!

"One of the five best books to leave with your Christian teenager...." 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

In short, this bible is GREAT!

If you want teens to read the bible, you must give them one which is:

1. Accurate in translation
2. Easy to read
3. Broken down into bite-sized portions
4. Organized in a creative and attractive manner

The Teen Devotional Bible hits the mark on all four. I have worked with teenagers for over twenty years as a public school teacher, and I also have a seminary degree. Trust me, you will be very glad you turned your teen on to this bible. It has now made my list of 'must have' books to leave with teenagers if you could only choose 5:

1. The Teen Devotional Bible (Barnhill)
2. What the Bible is All About for Young Explorers (Mears)
3. The Purpose Filled Life (Warren)
4. Dragons, Grasshoppers & Frogs--Revelation for teens (Parks)
5. If God Loves Me Why Can't I Get My Locker Open? (Peterson)

I cannot add much to the compliments others have already paid. Kudos to Carla Barnhill for this contribution to the teaching of God's Word to young people!

Odin's BEST 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

You will find not only Norse myths in this book, but Teutonic tales as well. The drawings are incredible, as in all children's books. Adults will not be disappointed with this one, and children will be pleased to hear the exciting stories within. A MUST have for Norse mythology book collectors. An oldie but GOODIE! Classic and captivating. What else can I say? . . . I'm buying another one incase I lose my present copy-THAT IS HOW GOOD IT IS! I also reccomend My Viking Book by Ruth Harshaw. Hard to find and quite old, but it is THE best children's book EVER! Don't miss either of them.

Buyer Beware !!!!!! 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Buyer beware ! This Alladin Publication is the same as the Dover Publication Nordic Gods and Heroes. However, it is lacking much of the original artwork, especially that which introduces each of the four parts.
The first 3 parts are Norse mythology and the 4th is the Teutonic Ring of the Nibelungs. This book was written for children and young adults and gives only a bare bones telling of the myths. Be prepared for some archaic language : "dost", "spake", "knowst", etc.

Why Amazon chooses to sell these two books as a pair is beyond me as they are essentially identical. I recommend the Dover edition because of the extra artwork.

A retelling of the Norse sagas about Odin, Freya, Thor, Loki and the other gods and gaddesses who lived in Asgard before the dawn of time.

Run Baby Run 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This true story of Nicky Cruz is the same one that I read 38 years ago this summer. I was 15 then and even now I remember it extremely well, as it was the beginning of a 180 degree turn around in my life. I would recommend it to anyone young, as I just bought this copy for my 18 year old son.

Editorial Review:

The book that has stunned and moved the hearts of millions is to be re-released with a dramatic new cover to co-incide with publication of Nick Cruz's earth-shaking new book ONE HOLY FIRE. Cruz's classic testimony is still compelling reading thirty years after its first publication. A childhood overshadowed by spiritualism in his Puerto Rican home preceded a harsh and violent adolescence as the leader of one of New York's toughest street gangs. Chilling scenes of knife fights, torture and murder dominated the life of a young man proud and feared on the outside, but inwardly running scared. His fears and loneliness were brought to the surface through an encounter with the unlikely character of preacher David Wilkerson, who led Cruz to open his life to Christ - an incredible conversion that amazed all who knew him.

Pathway to Purpose review 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is one of the most significant books I've read in awhile in regard to helping me honestly evaluated God's place in my life and my own motivations for serving Him and relating to others. This book makes me feel like I want to sit with the author and discuss at length the concepts she brings forth in her book. Ms Brazelton must be an awesome mentor.

Interesting 3 out of 5 stars.

I found this easy to listen to but not of much help to any pathway to purpose for me. It was interesting and did get some ideas from listening to it.

Facilitating growth 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Initially, I bought the Praying for Purpose book to infuse my daily quiet time (plus it was on sale). I was enjoying Praying for Purpose so much that I decided to take the advice at the front of the book and read Pathway to Purpose as the foundational book. Significant time elapsed between my buying the book and actually reading it--mainly because the longer chapters were daunting when combined with my hectic schedule. Nevertheless, I knew I need to really delve into it because I am at a watershed period in my life. Well, once I began reading I was drawn into the contents. I was particularly struck by the author's relation of her own story. She writes with strategic candor--sharing vignettes of her life with precise relativity to the principle being shared. I was not able to fully relate to the first 2 chapters but I appreciated their advance wisdom. I am still working my way through both books because ever so often I stumble on something that takes me a few days to "soak in." Nevertheless, I've enjoyed Pathway to Purpose so much, I bought copies for each of my Women's Ministry Coucil members. I would totally recommend it!!!!!

Being a Teen-ager 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I liked the book cause it gives you good advice, and it gives you tips, tells how to get your-self out a bad situation to a good situation. It also tells you the importance of being in love. Also explains groups, cliques, classes, clubs and more. It let you yest your-self as if you were doing good or bad. I also liked the book because it gives you poems that will make your day feel better. Tells you about the Social Scene, Everyday Life, Outsiders, Grown up Factor, Tough Stuff, Life Outside the Classroom, Love, Getting Real, being a Teen-ager, and last but not least... The Real Deal!!!

Editorial Review:

CHALLENGES. Failing a class, getting dumped and figuring out where you fit in, are all difficult high school challenges. Finding the answer is not always easy. And let's face it, your parents may give you advice, but rarely do they really know where you’re coming from. The good news about tackling challenges is that you end up stronger and smarter once you reach the other side. These stories
are from teenagers just like you who have gone through many of the same problems and survived. Whether it’s standing up to the mean girl in the cafeteria or staying true to yourself under peer pressure, Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal Challenges tells you the absolute truth about what it means to be a teen.

I'd rate this a ZERO if I could 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is no good. Definitely doesn't lead teens in the way they should go. And thats fine if it doesn't claim to be a "Christian" book. No book should be titled in reference to "God" as this one is. Obviously the author was TRYING to attract Christians out there. Seriously if I wasn't a Christian I wouldn't of looked twice at this book.

Editorial Review:

In the author's words, CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD FOR TEENS is, "a look at all the questions that teenagers from every corner of the globe are asking, and the answers that I have received from God in my private meditations." Some of these questions, which reflect issues that are part of everyday life for teenagers, include, "Why can¹t my parents stay in love and stay married?", "Why wasn't everybody born smart?", and "How do you decide who gets to be famous and who gets to live regular lives?" To compile questions for this book, Neale Donald Walsch traveled all over the world to speak with young people in order to accurately incorporate their unique issues into his personal dialogue with God. The result is, in the words of the author, "one of the first books ever to speak to teens from God¹s point of view."

I had no idea such a type of Bible existed until I ran across them at a Christian Book store yesterday. My son and my nephew were glued to them in the car all the way home. They said that they thought the Bibles were so awesome and they didn't realize that being a Christian could be "cool". Then they found out that Christian music can be cool too.... they thought this kind of life was going to be boring! Boy were they surprised!

A Great Book for Girls & Women of All Ages 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book several years ago, and just took it off my bookshelf to re-read it again - and I just have to say that I have truly enjoyed being reminded of the pearls of wisdom strewn throughout these pages!

"The Girls' Book of Wisdom" has 45 short chapters - each characterizing a different part of life. These chapters start off with a small but insightful discussion on that topic, followed by a bunch of really great quotes - some by famous people, some by not-so famous people, and quite a few from the teenagers of America. There really is a great variety of thoughts & perspectives - a great way to learn about thoughts/ideas you may not have considered.

Some of the chapters included are:
Self Awareness
Journal Keeping
Solitude
Loving Yourself
Confidence
Beauty
Health
Intuition
Leadership
Adversity
Optimism
Success
Happiness
Giving Back

And many, many more...

Overall, I found this book to be a fun, easy, insightful, inspirational read, and would highly recommend it to all those teenage girls out there (since much of the "pieces of wisdom" are geared to help you to grow into self-confident, self-sufficient women), as well as for women (there's a lot of great insights in there for us too - smile). It would be a great gift for someone to give their daughter &/or neice!

Editorial Review:

A collection of quotations from over 400 famous women, including suffragists, pioneers, politicians, moms, musicians, athletes, and actors, grouped in such categories as "Friendship," "Confidence," and "Creativity."

Great, great book! 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I have been learning about Buddhism for a couple of years now and bought this book for my teenage daughter, in hopes that it would inspire her to join me. She hasn't read it yet, but I decided to pick it up off her shelf one day and read it myself. This book changed my life. It is written in very simple, easy to understand terms. I felt like Diana Winston was a good friend, walking the path with me and explaining things along the way. I loved it. And I am still hoping my daughter will join me!

Editorial Review:

Many of today's teenagers are tired of the pressure to compete and consume-and are looking for a different way to live their lives. This book offers an alternative: the 2,500-year old practice of Buddhism.

Written in a style that will have immediate appeal to young "seekers" and those wanting to understand the ancient teachings, this book addresses such relevant topics as peer pressure, emotional difficulties, stress, fostering peace, and even protecting the environment. For everyone looking for self-help, self-esteem, and self-awareness, this book offers advice on:

€ Discovering truth in a world of hype
€ Finding peace amid the ups and downs of life
€ Accepting ourselves
€ Working with difficult emotions
€ How to meditate
€ Dealing with temptations and making the right decisions about sex and drugs
€ Advice on volunteering, working for peace, and protecting the environment
