I dont understand somthing, why all the time people are saying that this is for people figuting cancer? LeShan in his own words says that cancer is a normal process that is heppening in every body 24 hours a day, it is only the immune system that isnt able to fight the process and as a result what we are calling a diease excist.

I am trying to say that everybody should read and accept what is in this book, the immune system is the gate for everything, dosent matter weather you are figting the "diease" or weather you are an elite athlete needs to strengen his body and mind.

It is up to you weather you use the tools writen here, but it is an eye opening book that tells you how far you can go.

Editorial Review:

Widely considered the father of mind-body therapy, LeShan has spent more than 35 years working with cancer patients. In this book, he presents 29 exercises that involving reflection, discussion and writing that are designed to help cancer patients define their goals and questions and come to terms with their fears.

Editorial Review:

This book describes what cancer is - and the two ways of conceptualizing cancer; what the mainstream approaches are - and the pros and cons of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. It evaluates cancer research and explains some of the defects of the current situation. Having laid the foundations, this book then gives a detailed description of what the alternative approaches are: the tests you might want to consider, the detox regimes, the diets, vitamins, herbs, supplements, machines and other therapies that could give you a better than 90% chance of recovery from cancer. Yes, it's true.

The exciting truth is there are dozens of cures for cancer. But you can't do them if you don't know what they are - and you won't do them if you are not convinced they are the best way of dealing with your cancer.

This `big book' is co-published with a `little book' ( Cancer Recovery Guide: 15 Alternative and Complementary Strategies for Restoring Health ) that provides a speedy overview of the options and strategies.

Very helpful! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book was purchased as I was undergoing my own diagnostic procedures after MRI/CT scans showed probable non-hodgkins lymphoma. I appreciated the author's first-person perspective on her experiences, which helped to normalize some of my own. The book offers good, basic descriptions of many of the different lymphomas (lymphomi?) possible, and thoroughly describes the possible treatment options. I found her explanations of chemotherapy types very helpful, making the whole topic less daunting and scary. The chapters that included cell biology, immune system, & genetic basis for lymphoma were tough to read through--but I found these gave great background for understanding what my oncologist is thinking, where he is going with his recommendations, and makes me a more involved patient. This has really helped me to cope with these first weeks/months of my disease, thank you Ms. Adler!

Editorial Review:

"Adler's professional background and experience as a lymphoma survivor make her the perfect person to write this book. The author's explanations are a gentle guide and a thorough introduction to the basics that give us the confidence to handle decisions relating to treatments and other aspects of lymphoma." -- Anne Atkinson, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Hodgkin disease survivor and coordinator of the Women's Cancer Group

Editorial Review:

A powerful and substantiated expose of the medical politics that prevents promising alternative cancer therapies from being implemented in the United States.

• Focuses on Harry Hoxsey, the subject of the author's award-winning documentary, who claimed to cure cancer using herbal remedies.

• Presents scientific evidence supporting Hoxsey's cancer-fighting claims.

• Published to coincide with the anticipated 2000 public release of the government-sponsored report finding "noteworthy cases of survival" among Hoxsey
patients.

Harry Hoxsey claimed to cure cancer using herbal remedies, and thousands of patients swore that he healed them. His Texas clinic became the world's largest privately owned cancer center with branches in seventeen states, and the value of its therapeutic treatments was upheld by two federal courts.  Even his arch-nemesis, the AMA, admitted his treatment was effective against some forms of cancer.  But the medical establishment refused an investigation, branding Hoxsey the worst cancer quack of the century and forcing his clinic to Tijuana, Mexico, where it continues to claim very high success rates.  Modern laboratory tests have confirmed the anticancer properties of Hoxsey's herbs, and a federal govenment-sponsored report is now calling for a major reconsideration of the Hoxsey therapy.

When Healing Becomes a Crime exposes the overall failure of the War on Cancer, while revealing how yesterday's "unorthodox" treatments are emerging as tomorrow's medicine. It probes other promising unconventional cancer treatments that have also been condemned without investigation, delving deeply into the corrosive medical politics and powerful economic forces behind this suppression. As alternative medicine finally regains its rightful place in mainstream practice, this compelling book will not only forever change the way you see medicine, but could also save your life.
