It was ok, I guess..... 2 out of 5 stars.

Well, I'm 14 and perfectly authorized to write a review for this book since it IS for teenagers. The entire freshman class is being required to read this book as a part of our 48 Books Program and some of us like it and some of us absolutely can't stand it. I would give it the fact that it's remotely interesting but it's mean in a way that if you do something wrong you're totally undermining your self-esteem and I think that's just plain wrong. To make this book better he should have put more in that are popular that people actually know about and are funny, not just being used to prove a point. Also, the way he wants us to write in the book and stuff just doesn't appeal to ANY of us because of the way it's phrased before a line to write. Most of us just kind of think about it and go on. It's hard to hold my attention on it for very long because just reading through Habit #2 makes you read over a hundred pages of boring text. My school is in the top 36 elite high schools in the nation and they expect us to read this boring book that's of little or no help to the majority of it's freshmen? I mean, my math teacher thinks it's the best book on the planet, but seriously, he's kind of old. Us teens (who the book was actually written for) think it's not all that great. Whatever. Read it yourself and see what you think, this is only my opinion after all, not that a whole lot of people are going to read it or anything.

With honesty, accuracy, humor, and warmth, IT'S SO AMAZING offers children the real information they need—now more than ever.

How does a baby begin? What makes a baby female or male? Why are some babies twins? How is a baby adopted? Children sure have lots of questions about reproduction and babies—and about sex and sexuality too.

IT'S SO AMAZING! provides the fascinating answers—with fun, accurate, comic-book style artwork, and a clear, lively text that reflects an elementary-school child's interest in science and how things work. Throughout the book, a curious Bird and a squeamish Bee help tell the AMAZING story of how a baby is made—from the moment an egg and sperm join, through pregnancy, to birth. IT'S SO AMAZING! also addresses, in a reassuring and age-appropriate way, related topics such as love, sex, gender, families, heterosexuality, homosexuality, sexual abuse, and HIV and AIDS—while giving children a healthy understanding of their bodies.

Robie H. Harris and Michael Emberley, author and illustrator of IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL: CHANGING BODIES, GROWING UP, SEX AND SEXUAL HEALTH, created IT'S SO AMAZING! in response to requests from parents, educators, librarians, and health professionals for a book that would address a younger child's concerns. Vetted and approved by science, health, and child development experts, this comprehensive, forthright, and funny book is just what children need—to provide answers to their questions and to keep them safe, healthy, and unafraid.

One of the Greats 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have read this classic to my kids (and to myself, decades ago), and two of my daughters have read it too.

My 10-year old says that she find it believeable, even with the talking animals. By that, I think that she appreciates the humanization of the animal characters. This is a story, tenderly told, about life and death, friendship, selfishness and generosity, and generally what it means to live among others. Read it with your kids.

Very Good Book 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is the story about the famous pig Wilbur, who was born tiny, but was saved by a little girl, Fern, and later saved by a spider named Charlotte.

Fern convinces her dad to let her take care of the tiny baby pig until he is big enough to go back into the barn. After he goes back into the barn, he still needs to be saved from being made into ham and bacon and sausage.

I loved the cozy barn life and the animals, and the relationship of Wilbur, Charlotte, Fern, Templeton, the sheep, and the geese.

I also loved the fair. I love fairs, so naturally, I loved this part of the book.

The first time I read this book was when I was thirteen. Back then, I really loved the book so much, and felt it was perfect and flawless. Since then, I saw bits and pieces of the movie when it came on tv (I'm not a tv or movie watcher).

I always knew I would eventually read the book again. I finally did. However, this time, I did not find it perfect and flawless. Although the storyline was still perfect and sweet, there were gross things in this book that did not bother me when I was thirteen. The older I get, the more sensitive I get. It's hard to believe I grew up in a farm/ranch situation and around "gross" things, but they didn't bother me back then; now I know I could never live on a farm again. That's why one star is missing; while I was reading this book, I couldn't eat or even think about eating - I'm that sensitive to "gross" things.

Not Impressed 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I read this book in college for a children's lit class. I was not impressed. It is a melodramatic look at the evils of drugs. It reads like a bad after school special, created to frighten teenagers and warn them never to experiment with drugs of any kind. Also, despite the lore following this novel, it was not written by a teenager. Read the novel if must, but there are definitely better books out there about drug usage.

Semi Compelling... 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book was kind of interesting. It is NOT written by a teenager. The story is about a girls struggle with drug addiction and personal identity. The things that give away this not so anonymous book is the content. There are several "big" words that are used by te author to suggest that this isnt written by a 14 year old addict. Throughout the story, the narrator spends her time raving about the drugs she uses but spends a little amount of time talking about boys and other "normal" teenage expierecnes. Before the story even starts, there is a note that says this book is fictional and all characters are made up. And the characters name isnt even Alice, Alice is simply a girl who is mentioned once in the book. "Go Ask Alice" is the title of a song sung by Jefferson Airplane. This book was also written during the during the 70s drug hype. This story can be a propaganda book to simply keep teenagers away from drugs. And if all this was real, the people the events and such, why hasnt anyone come through and said anything about this girl or anyone else in the story? Just makes you wonder...
So I recommed that you get this book from a library or a friend because it isnt really worth purchasing.

Editorial Review:

From a fear of spiders to panic attacks, kids have worries and fears, just like adults. But while adults have access to a lot of helpful information, that hasn’t been true for kids—until now. Drawing on his years of experience helping children deal with anxiety, Dr. James Crist has written a book that kids can turn to when they need advice, reassurance, and ideas. He starts by telling young readers that all kids are scared and worried sometimes; they’re not alone. He explains where fears and worries come from and how the mind and body work together to make fears worse or better. He describes various kinds of fears and suggests ten Fear Chasers and Worry Erasers kids can try to feel safer, stronger, and calmer. The second part of the book focuses on phobias, separation anxiety, OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), and other problems too big for kids to handle on their own, and explains what it’s like to get counseling. Includes a special "Note to Grown-ups" and a! list of resources.

Fabulous study guide! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I used this book to prepare for the AP Psychology exam and was thrilled! I had never taken a psychology course before and thought it would be challenging to try to succeed on the exam to earn college credit. It was easy to read and the practice test questions were extremely similar to those on the actual exam. I was excited to hear that I received a 5 on my exam... and the only aid I used was this book! I would recommend this to anyone.

Editorial Review:

This updated manual presents an extensive subject review covering all test topics plus three full-length practice tests that reflect the actual AP Psychology Exam in length, subject matter, and degree of difficulty. All test questions are answered and explained. Test topics reviewed include research methods, the biological basis of behavior, sensation and perception, states of consciousness, learning, cognition, personality, abnormal psychology, and treatment of disorders. This manual also presents an overview of the test, extra multiple-choice questions for practice and review, test-taking tips, and an analysis of the test’s essay question with a sample essay.

Classic for small children 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is a classic for explaining the birds and the bees to small kids. It's illustrated in a cartoony, friendly style and explains sex in a way that's comprehensible from a child's point of view. I don't think it crosses the line of what an average parent would consider "too much information".

The couple depicted are slightly chubby and middle-aged, quite the stereotype of a mummy and daddy. On one page they are standing together nude and smiling at the reader. On the page that explains sexual intercourse, they're under the blankets, so don't worry about kids seeing too much. Sex is explained as being like "skipping rope" - it feels good but you get too tired to do it forever! Sounds funny from an adult's perspective but I guess it's a good way to explain to a small child why grown-ups like it.

The book also explains fertilization down at the cellular level (the endpapers feature a cartoon egg being presented with a rose by a sperm) and pregnancy and childbirth in brief.

I read the book around age 5 or 6. My parents didn't want to have to explain this stuff face-to-face and I was an early reader =)
