Where's My Stuff? 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The moment I put this book down, I wished that I had found it befor emy Senior year. "Where's My Stuff?" contains nearly every little bit of study and and organizational wisdom I've picked up throguh my high-school career, and it would have been helpful going into it with all that knowledge condensed in one book, whick I'm quite glad this book does. The practical, step-by-step instriuctions on how to organize class materials were incredibly helpful, and this book does a great job of preparing you to manage your time and your personla space. With its diagrams, charts, and overall utility, I would recommend "Where's My Stuff?" To anyone entering high-school. I'm definitely keeping it for college.

Editorial Review:

Free time is great. Unless you spend all of it searching for your homework, your mobile phone, or a clean pair of shorts. Then free time is not so great. In fact, it's non-existent. If chaos and disorganisation are swallowing all of your free time, "Where's My Stuff?" can help you to get it back. Inside, you will learn how to systematically organise your school stuff, your time, and your room. The book includes: innovative notebook systems; backpack maintenance tips; practical pointers for managing your schedule; a template for your own personalised daily planner; and, interior design-inspired techniques to make your room your favourite place to be. With fun and useful illustrations, easy-to-follow charts, and 4 ample doses of humour, "Where's My Stuff?" is an incredible asset for any-one who wants to get it together and keep it together, for good.

Filled with sections on Health & Wellness, Getting Along, Staying Safe, School & Learning, Going Online, Planning Ahead, Saving the World, Focus On You, and Just for Fun, there is a ton of information just waiting in LIFE LISTS FOR TEENS.

Some of my favorite lists include:

1) 17 Ways to Manage Stress

4) 12 Suicide Warning Signs
5) 19 Note-Taking Tips
6) The Student Bill of Rights
7) 7 Things You Should Know About Online Privacy
8) 10 Tips for Procrastinators
9) 10 Reasons Why You Need Self-Esteem
10) 12 Reasons to Write
11) 13 Things You Can Do to Promote Diversity

Overall, this is a great book for teens, pre-teens, and even parents. A helpful handbook to daily life!

Editorial Review:

Most books of lists feature facts, statistics, or trivia. In Life Lists for Teens, more than 200 self-help lists distill "big topics" like health and wellness, relationships, feelings, creativity, problem-solving, and self-esteem. Each list is like a mini-self-help book--a starting-point for learning, thinking, and making positive choices and decisions. Some are practical: 6 Ways to Remember What You Study, 3 Rules for Doing Internet Research. Some are meant to motivate or inspire: 10 Goal-Setting Steps, 18 Great Reasons to Serve Others. Some are serious: 8 Tips for Coping with Tragedy or Disaster, 10 Ways to Handle Hate Words and Slurs. And some are just for fun: The 8 Clown Commandments, 9 Tips for Changing Your Hair Color. Any teen who has ever made a list will enjoy this book--as an inviting, enlightening read, a place to go for quick advice, and a ready source of guidance and encouragement for all kinds of situations.

Editorial Review:

"Are you as tired as I am of books constantly telling you the same old Brady Bunch, Beaver Cleaver, goody-two-shoes BS about doing your best to understand your parents, doing your homework, making curfew, getting a haircut, dropping that hemline, and blah blah blah?" So inquires Jay McGraw, son of bestselling author Phillip C. McGraw, in the introduction to the younger, hipper version of his father's Life Strategies. This funny, straightforward guide helps teens steer rather than drift in life, dealing honestly with topics from peer pressure to TV addiction with the underlying mantra, "Don't like it? Change it." Divided into the same 10 "Life Laws" that are in his father's book (from "We teach people how to treat us" to "There is power in forgiveness"), McGraw urges teens to take control of their lives at every turn. That said, he doesn't expect any young person to respond to the way his father's book is written, so he translates "People do what works" to "The truth about why you can act so weird" and "Life rewards action" to "What are you waiting for? Get it in gear!" He demands that his readers ask themselves hard questions about missed opportunities, perceptions, self-sabotage, and personal shortcomings so they can figure out what's not working and fix it. Why? So that they can turn dreams into goals--with specific timelines and strategies. There's no doubt that the book has the enthusiastic pounding zeal of an aerobics instructor. But it makes a lot of sense, and if a teen took even a few of these lessons to heart, he or she would be more in control than most adults. (Ages 13 and older)

Editorial Review:

It's all about making friends and being a good friend!

The teen years can be tricky -- especially if you are a girl. Let's face it, teen girls deal with pressures and dilemmas that teen boys couldn't even dream of, let alone handle! In How to Win Friends and Influence People for Teen Girls, Donna Dale Carnegie, daughter of the late motivational author and teacher Dale Carnegie, brings her father's time-tested, invaluable lessons to the newest generation of young women on their way to becoming savvy, self-assured friends and leaders.

How to Win Friends and Influence People for Teen Girls offers concrete advice on teen topics such as peer pressure, gossip, and popularity. Teen girls will learn the most powerful ways to influence others, defuse arguments, admit mistakes, and make self-defining choices. The Carnegie techniques promote clear and constructive communication, praise rather than criticism, emotional sensitivity, tolerance, and a positive attitude -- important skills for every girl to develop at an early age. Of course, no book for teen girls would be complete without taking a look at how to maintain friendships with boys and deal with commitment issues and break-ups with boyfriends. Carnegie also provides solid advice for older teens beginning to explore their influence in the adult world, such as driving and handling college interviews.

Full of fun quizzes, "reality check" sections, and true-life examples, How to Win Friends and Influence People for Teen Girls offers every teenage girl candid, insightful, and timely advice on how to influence friends in a positive manner.

Inspirational 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

It would be beneficial if this book could be in the hands of every teen and parent in the country. To read how teens relate spiritually to their circumstances was enlightening. Their real voices touched me as did the guidance and life experience offered by Mrs. T as she shared tangible ways for teens to help themselves in times of trouble. As a grandparent, I was so inspired by Michelle's book that I bought extra copies to share with friends who may want to give the book to their grandchildren or who choose to better understand what their teen or pre teen grandchild may be going through.

Editorial Review:

Chicken Soup for the Soul cocreators Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen have teamed up with Michelle L. Trujillo, best known to teens as Mrs. T, to offer you a collection of passages from teenagers across the nation that will lead you on a spiritual journey.

From trial and tragedy to triumph and joy, teen contributors share personal, heartfelt testimonies about how God has given them strength and courage to deal with the tough times and love and comfort when they have felt alone. Teens also share with you what it means to accept God's grace and rely on His guidance. At the end of each chapter, Mrs. T shares stories and encouragement, while inviting you to continue or establish a promising relationship with God.

Regardless of your religion, this book will be a light upon your path. Teens Talkin' Faith is a gift from Chicken Soup for the Soul, Mrs. T, and teens just like you. It is a gift of faith, love, and hope that can make a difference in your life.

Robert's Mom 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 18 people found this review helpful.

My son was thrilled to receive this book. He immediately began to see himself described in every chapter. He has always felt different and out of sync with his peers. This book helped him to understand himself and feel good about his "gift".

Excellent Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This was truly an excellent book for any teen who is gifted. I've been gifted since I was very young and I've never fit in with any of the other kids. I've always been much more mature and on a much higher level than the rest of the kids my age. This book showed me that I should be proud about being gifted, and shouldn't worry about fitting in. This is a must read for any gifted teen.

very good but not inclusive enough 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 11 people found this review helpful.

i picked this up because it's the sort of thing that wasn't available to me when i needed it years ago and i was curious. i'm impressed with the career advice given, although far too many pages are devoted to getting into college. every gifted kid (possibly every kid) is going to be inundated with grades/college stuff without this book. i particularly like that the authors address subjects which can be touchy or entirely skipped over in some environments, such as drinking, drugs, sex, depression and teen suicide.

however, while the book spends a bit of time on special issues for gifted girls, gifted boys, and gifted minority students, and even includes a list of suggestions of 'ways to fight racism in your school', it makes no mention whatsoever of sexual orientation. gay, lesbian, and bisexual teens are at special risk for depression and suicide due to actual social rejection and/or feeling like it's not okay to openly be themselves. they are also well represented in the gifted population. to deal with both issues simultaneously is something that deserves a special word or two, just as minority students' concerns were so thoughtfully addressed.

if this book is updated, i hope the authors will include this issue in the section on dealing with prejudice. its omission tends to send the wrong message. i was thinking of buying copies of this for some young teenagers i know, but if i have to write notes in the margins before giving them out... well, let's just say i'm still deliberating.

Editorial Review:

Examines issues that are of concern for young people who have been labeled "gifted," discussing what the label means, intelligence testing, educational options, and relationships with parents and friends. Includes first-person essays on being gifted.
