Completely delivers on the title... 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

If you're looking for something to convince you that although you're a 4, with a few magic pickup lines you will land a 10, you might want to peruse the fiction section. In Irresistible Attraction, Hogan staying true to form gives direct and useful information that is backed by research... In other words, he gives us the stuff that works.

There were two common threads running through the negative reviews on this book. Either it didn't validate their pre-existing (subjective) beliefs or some of the material was common sense.

It seems as though some of the reviewers expected magical pick up lines, secret handshakes or the single optimal angle to wink your eye to place their "victim" into a controllable trance of love... I blame Hollywood...

Well you're not going get any such hollow promises here. This information is straight forward, useful and above all else REAL.

As with any book based on human nature and communication some of the information will be familiar. That being said, this book does a great job of shaking the rust off of some of the basics and compliments that with a lot of brand new, completely fresh attraction and communication research touching on aspects such as body language, conversation and body positioning.

Unless your Cleopatra or Casanova, you will walk away from this book with oodles of tips and strategies to help you maximize your own potential for getting the person of your dreams. Don't even consider going on another date with out reading this book...

My daughter, who was in 2nd grade, couldn't get into reading.
We found the series "Weird School" and she LOVED them. She read the
entire series. Now with this follow-up series "Weird School Daze" she
is thrilled to be able to keep reading!!

Mr Granite is from another Planet by Dan Gutman 5 out of 5 stars.

This series is so funny. It is about 2nd grade children and their days at school. Each book is about a different teacher. My grandson is 8 and laughs about something in each chapter. I love the books as much as he does and I am a Grandmother. I would recommend this book and the other ones in the series to every child since the book's main character are both boys and girls so funny for both genders. GREAT SERIES - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! We have read all 21 books in this series and they are all hilarious.

That Was Then This Is Now

Bryon is a strong, 16 year old teenager in the book That Was Then This Is Now by S.E. Hinton. Bryon has a very special talent which is hustling people in pool. He has been doing this since he was 12 years old. Bryon lives with his mom in a little town in Oklahoma. His best friend Mark is living with him.
There's a reason why Mark is living with him. That reason is that his parents died when he was nine. Mark's parents were drunk and they were arguing that night. His dad got mad at his mom. Then his dad shot his mom and she fell to the ground. Then his mom shot his dad back. They both bled to death. Then Mark went to live with Byron and his mom.
Byron and Mark have been friends since they were very young. They grew up together in the same little town. Byron says there like brothers. Byron is big, tall, and strong. Mark is short and strong. They like to get in fights a lot. Mark hot wires cars to get around town. He has done that since he was twelve.
But they also have a problem. As they grow up they are growing apart from each other. Bryon starts going out with Cathy. Mark starts to get jealous of Cathy because Bryon is spending more time with Cathy. Then Mark starts acting a little weird and Byron notices it. He starts to look a little different. Then his attitude was changing about everything. He starts to talk back to Bryon and he has never done that before. Then Byron figures out why he is acting strange. Mark has a big secret. But you have to read the book to find out what it is.
If you like books about love, growing up, and a little action then this book is for you. This book is very interesting. I think it was very interesting when they protect their friend M&M from the guys who jumped him. I think the author wrote this book so kids won't get in gangs. They won't get a bad life or future. If you read the back it makes you want to read it. I wanted to know what kept them apart so I read the book at home for an hour each day until I got to the end. I was amazed by the ending. The book has 159 pages in all. Its reading level is 4.6.

Editorial Review:

Ever since Mark's parents died, he has been living with Bryon. The boys are more like brothers than mere friends. They've been inseparable--until recently. Something seems to be changing between them, and Bryon can't figure it out. Is it Cathy, Bryon's new girlfriend? Is Mark jealous? Bryon is also tired of the street fighting, but Mark seems unable to quit. And where is Mark getting all of that money? In That Was Then, This Is Now, one of her most admired novels, S. E. Hinton paints a richly textured portrait of two boys at a crossroads in their friendship. With careful, intimate strokes, Hinton reveals a boy struggling over whether to protect his best friend or whether to follow his own beliefs about right and wrong. The ending will surprise readers, challenging them to puzzle over Bryon's dilemma in their own hearts.

Surprised by Sex in this book-not for preTeen or early Teen 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I was shocked when my 12 year old showed me this book. I reviewed it and found several passages where the girls in the book are talking about sexual acts performed on boys. This is definitely not a book for young girls and I'm shocked that the author added this type of material to this book. I didn't find sexual acts in the first book, TTYL . . however, I'm going back to review it more closely.

See page 157-158 for Bj references, 86 for F*ing references, page 82 for c**k references, and so on.

I'm surprised that others are rating this book so high . . must be teen readers and not teen parents.

Don't buy this book for your young children. I'm not certain what a good age is for letting your kids read about sexual acts . . .

Editorial Review:

Audacious author Lauren Myracle accomplishes something of a literary miracle in her second young-adult novel, ttyl (Internet instant messaging shorthand for "talk to you later"), as she crafts an epistolary novel entirely out of IM transcripts between three high-school girls.

Far from being precious, the format proves perfect for accurately capturing the sweet histrionics and intimate intricacies of teenage girls. Grownups (and even teenage boys) might feel as if they've intercepted a raw feed from Girl Secret Headquarters, as the book's three protagonists--identified by their screen names "SnowAngel," "zoegirl," and "mad maddie"--tough their way through a rough-and-tumble time in high school. Conversations range from the predictable (clothes, the delicate high-school popularity ecosystem, boys, boys in French class, boys in Old Navy commercials, etc.) to the the jarringly explicit (the girls discuss female ejaculation: "some girls really do, tho. i read it in our bodies, ourselves") and the unintentionally hilarious (Maddie's IM reduction of the Christian poem "Footprints"--"oh, no, my son. no, no, no. i was carrying u, don't u c?").

But Myracle's triumph in ttyl comes in leveraging the language-stretching idiom of e-mail, text messaging, and IM. Reaching to express themselves, the girls communicate almost as much through punctuation and syntactical quirks as with words: "SnowAngel: 'cuz--drumroll, please--ROB TYLER is in my french class!!! *breathes deeply, with hand to throbbing bosom* on friday we have to do "une dialogue" together. i get to ask for a bite of his hot dog.'"

Myracle already proved her command of teenage girl-ness with Kissing Kate, but the self-imposed convention of ttyl allows a subtlety that is even more brilliant. Parents might like reading the book just to quantify how out of touch they are, but teens will love the winning, satisfyingly dramatic tale of this tumultuous trio. (Ages 13 to 17) --Paul Hughes

Editorial Review:

Phoebe is just your typical goth girl with a crush. He's strong and silent.and dead.

All over the country, a strange phenomenon is happening. Some teenagers who die aren't staying dead. They are coming back to life, but they are no longer the same-they stutter, and their reactions to everything are slower. Termed "living impaired" or "differently biotic," they are doing their best to fit into a society that doesn't want them.

Fitting in is hard enough when you don't have the look or attitude, but when almost everyone else is alive and you're not, it's close to impossible. The kids at Oakvale High don't want to take classes or eat in the cafeteria next to someone who isn't breathing. And there are no laws that exist to protect the differently biotic from the people who want them to disappear-for good.

With her pale skin and Goth wardrobe, Phoebe has never run with the popular crowd. But no one can believe it when she falls for Tommy Williams, the leader of the dead kids. Not her best friend, Margi, whose fear of the differently biotic is deeply rooted in guilt over the past. And especially not her neighbor, Adam, the star of the football team. Adam has just realized his feelings for Phoebe run much deeper than just friendship. He would do anything for her, but what if protecting Tommy is the one thing that would make her happy?

Generation Dead is a sharp, funny, and breathtakingly original novel from an exciting new talent.

A Waste of Time 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I think the book The View from Saturday was a waste of time for the writer. The theme was not so interesting and the characters had no personality. It is not a book I recommend to people.

This book was confusing and did not explain the story so well. On every other page there was a new scene. In the book the author did not explain when the characters went to the academic bowls. Some of the characters did not have a personality although Juilan was my favorite because of his differences. He is different because on the first day of school he wore knee socks and shorts and to the other characters and school that was weird. Another part I thought was a little strange was the theme. If you drink tea with your friends your personality will change.

The book is not worth reading.

Editorial Review:

A powerhouse sixth-grade Academic Bowl team from Epiphany Middle School; the art of calligraphy; the retirees of Century Village, Florida; a genius dog named Ginger; and a holiday production of "Annie" all figure heavily in the latest book by E. L. Konigsburg, who has produced a Newbery Medal-winning children's tale to rival her classic From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, which won the Newbery Medal almost 30 years ago. The new book centers around a group of four brilliant, shy 12-year-olds and the tea party they have each Saturday morning. Konigsburg's wacky erudition and her knack for offbeat characters make this a funny and endearing story of friendship.
