You don't know me, but I know about you.... I can't make you live longer, I can stop you form hurting. But I can give you one wish, as someone did for me.
Three letters. Three last wishes.

In Sixteen and Dying, when Anne finds out that a blood transfusion she had seven years ago has made her future uncertain, being given one wish helps her face her pain. She chooses to spend the summer with her father on a ranch out west—and there she meets someone who will change her life.

Painfully realistic issues 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Even though I don't have diabetes, I get what Lacey was going through with. I'd give anything to be with the in crowd, have the most popular boy in school be my boyfriend, and drop a few pounds. Every girl in high school wants that. Who wouldn't? It's just harder and more dangerous to achieve when you have diabetes.

This was the first "One Last Wish" book I've read with Lacey, but I really liked it. Even though I didn't exactly know what happned with Lacey and Jeff the summer before.

Lacey is 15, and really wants to fit in. But she has diabetes, and is afraid of what kids will think if they know. She decides to keep it a secret, and just pretend she doesn't have it. Lacey wants to be thin, because she has an absurd notion that she isn't. To get thin, she starts giving herself less insulin, and sometimes "forgets" to give herself insulin. She's sure that when she's thin, the popular group will fully accept her. What she doesn't take into consideration is her health.

Then Jeff comes into the picture. He transfered to college in Miami. Lacey has so many mixed feelings for him. She wants to be with him, yet she doens't.

This book is good, even though it's too short. And I wasn't completely satisfied with the ending of Jeff and Lacey. Even though we all know it's inevetable they'll end up together. And because the next book says so, but you know... lol

Editorial Review:

Out of control - that's how Lacey Duval feels in almost every aspect of her life. There's nothing she can do about her parents divorce, there's nothing she can do about the death of her young friend, there's nothing she can do about having diabetes - that's what Lacey believes.
After a special summer at Jenny House, Lacey is determined to put her problems behind her. When she returns to high school, she is driven to become a part of the in crowd and win the attention of gorgeous Todd Larson. But Lacey thinks fitting in means losing weight and hiding her diabetes. She starts skipping means and experimenting with her medication - sometimes ignoring it all together.
Her friends from the summer caution her to face her problems before catastrophe strikes. Is it too late to stop the destructive process Lacey has set in motion?

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

in my opinion, Reach For Tomorrow is Lurlene McDaniel's best book.It was great how she put in Eric, Megan, Sarah, and Morgan from the other one last wish books. The only OWL character missing was Dani from Mourning Song. I hope Lurlene writes a sequel that describes what happens to Josh and katie now that they're married, if meg and morgan stay together, and what happens to the other characters. YOU GOTTA READ ABOUT THIS FABULOUS JENNY HOUSE REUNION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Editorial Review:

And when Josh confronts unexpected adversity, Katie knows she has to work out her feelings for him. Through the heart transplant she underwent years ago, Katie miraculously received a gift of new life. Now she must discover how to make the most of that precious gift and choose her future.

"A Season For Goodbye proves to be worth it more than any other McDaniel novels" 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A Season for Goodbye by Lurlene McDaniel gets the readers attention in every way possible. It has comedy, suspense which keeps the readers hooked to keep on reading and finding out what is going to happen next, a few conflicts that get resolved eventually and a bit of tragedy that brings tears to its reader's eyes. This novel revolves around three young women, Katie, Lacey and Chelsea. There is one thing that holds all three of the characters together and that is the Jenny House. The Jenny House is a house for people with cancer and they all get together over the summer to enjoy every bit of time they have left. The three girls get together this summer for the last time before heading off their own directions. All three have conflicts going on in their lives which they in the end resolve.

Katie must decide between, whether to take the scholarship that is offered to her far away from home or try to work things out an old flame of hers. Chelsea on the other hand must trounce over her feelings of falling in love. The last main character, Lacey, having the most difficult decision of all must convince Jeff, her boyfriend that her feelings towards him can be trusted and she does love him with all his heart. It becomes hard for her to convince the Jeff since they get into arguments constantly and end up blowing up at each other.

What also makes this novel so different from other novels is that it contains inspiring elements that holds people together. Dullas, one of the Jenny House residents who have serious attitude issues often gets in arguments with Katie. Katie has to deal with her attitude since they both live in the same room. Katie never gives up and always tries to convince Dullas and make her understand. "Into every little life, a little rain must fall". This quote gives Katie her most inspiration. As McDaniel's novels revolve around life lessons, yet again she does a good job introducing a new life lesson that people should not give up so easily. Everyone must make an effort to reach somewhere. Many conflicts arise when Lacey and Jeff try to work things out. The novel is mostly based around Lacey's life and Katie, but not so much on Chelsea's. She is seen more of a care taker of the other two girls and the rest of the Jenny House residents.

Lacey and Jeff eventually resolve their arguments when an accident takes place with Jeff. She pours her heart to Jeff and he finally believes the feelings Lacey has for him are worth trusting.

But things don't go their way for too long when a tragedy strikes the Jenny House. It seems like all along that everything is okay and all the girls are going to be okay with their lives and their boyfriends but just when they think things are going fine, something goes wrong. In such a situation they learn to stick with each other and be there for each other when times of hardships come along. As much as we would think that their friendship might be affected by this Jenny House tragedy, the girls try their best to stick together and fight every difficult situation head on. It might seem like they all have their separate ways but in the end they all follow the same path together.

"I know you're grateful to me because I stuck by you when you were in the hospital. Which is more than any other girl has ever done when she sees me like this." This quote easily summarizes what the reader might be looking for. The novel is surrounded with numerous moral lessons.

Editorial Review:

Together again. It's been a year since Katie O'Roark, Chelsea James, and Lacey Duval shared a special summer at Jenny House. The girls have each spent the year struggling to fit into the world of the healthy. Now they're back, this time as "big sisters" to a new group of girls who also face life-threatening illnesses.
But even as the friends strive to help their "little sisters" face the future together, they must separately confront their own expectations. Katie must decide between an old flame and an exciting scholarship far from home. Chelsea must overcome her fear of romance. And Lacey must convince the boy that she loves that the feelings for him can be trusted.
When tragedy strikes Jenny House, each of the girls knows that things can never be the same again. Will Lacey, Chelsea, and Katie find a way to carry on the legacy of the Jenny House? Can their special friendship endure when they go their separate ways?

Good story about the bond between sisters 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Dani and her sister Cassie have been there for each other through hard times, but when Cassie gets diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor, Dani doesn't know what to do. Cassie will miss her graduation, her senior trip, and pretty much everything else that she wants to do with her friends.

Cassie is admitted into the hospital and starts radiation treatments that won't prevent her from dying, but may prolong her life by a few months. Dani feels totally helpless, and her mom does too (her mom's a bit of a control freak). When Cassie shows Dani the $100,000.00 check that she got from the One Last Wish foundation, Dani plans something her mom - and Cassie's doctors - would never approve of.

With some help from Dani's longtime friend Austin, who volunteers to drive Dani and Cassie where ever they want to go, Dani plans one last trip to the beach. So, Cassie, Dani, and Austin drive from Ohio to Florida, without telling her mom where they were going.

When the group finally reachs Florida, Dani calls her mom to tell her that they're safe, but Cassie's condition starts to worsen.

This book was good in the sense that it showed how strong the relationship between sisters is, but it wasn't as well written/interesting as most of McDaniel's books. It was a disappointment, and I recommend getting this one from the library instead of buying it.

Overall grade - C

Another addition to the story of friends Lacey, Chelsea, Amanda, Jillian and Katie, its a must-read. Chelsea is on the beeper for a heart transplant, and staying with Katie's family. Absolutely brilliant! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I just finished this book yesturday, and I am searching for more. It was my second Lurlene Mcdaniel book, and all I can say is that this may be the best book I have ever read. I could not put the book down. The story just draws you in and I think most people can relate to the story in one area or another. WHen I put the book down I cried, and if it can touch me like that, I think it can touch the millions of people who will, or have, read it. I just fell in love with it, and now I am rereading it. It was just absolutly brilliant.

not up to my expectations... 3 out of 5 stars.

I was really looking forward to this book, but now I'm kinda mad that I actually bought the book. It wasn't bad or anything, but it just wasn't what I was expecting. I was really hoping for romance. But there was hardly any.

So here's the plot or whatever. Anne is 16 when she goes to the hospital and realizes that she has aids from a blood transfusion 6 years ago. She only has like 4 months to live. She decides that she wants to go to a dude ranch for the summer with her dad (her mom's dead)for the last part of her life. She meets Morgan, the owner's nephew, who's 18. He likes her, yet they never become like girlfriend boyfriend. I mean, I don't think there's even one little kiss. What's up with that? She doesn't tell him she has aids, and when she cuts her hand and he tries to help her, she wont' let him. He's confused and hurt because he doesn't know that since she had aids, he could get it by touching her blood. Anne leaves without saying goodbye, and Morgan feels hurt. He actually goes up to New York where she lives. She's dying, and he stays with her until the end.

I'm a big fan of Lurlene McDaniel's books, mainly because I love romance. This book just didn't have any. It's still good, just not great.

Editorial Review:

HIV positive after a blood transfusion seven years before, Anne Wingate accepts money from an anonymous benefactor and journeys out west, where she falls for local boy Morgan and must face telling him about her illness.

Please Don't die, was the first of many books by Lurlene McDaniel that i have purchased and read. Not only is it entertaining it helped me to get over the death of my cousin, who died of Leukemia. the individual stories of all the girls jumps out and grabs you, whether you want it or not. If you want a book that you want to read and be affected this is it.

Editorial Review:

When Katie O'Roark receives an invitation from the One Last Wish Foundation to spend the summer at Jenny House, she eagerly says yes. Katie is ever grateful to the anonymous "JWC," the person who gave her the gift that allowed her to receive a heart transplant. Now Katie is asked to help others who, like herself, are facing medical odds against them.

Being a "Big Sister" to Amanda, an eleven-year-old victim of leukemia; Chelsea, a thirteen-year-old candidate for a heart transplant; and Lacey, a fifeen-year-old diabetic who refuses to face her problems, is a challenge. As the summer progresses, the girls form a bond of friendship as they behave "just like healthy kids."

When a crisis occurs and one of the girls does not get to fulfill her dreams, the friends are devastated. The girls vow to gather each summer, so long as one of them is alive, in honor of their dreams and of a friendship strong enough to endure beyond this life.

It Brought a Tear to my Eye 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A Time to Die has to be my favourite book in the OWL series. Kara and Vince's struggle to live is very inspiring and I admire them both for their courage and determination. Because I, along with my brother, am a victim of CF, I was glad to see someone trying to make the world more aware of this disease. I could really relate to Kara and Vince and found their thoughts and feeling about their disease to be similar to my own. This book is very well written with interesting characters and plot twists. This book brought a definite tear to my eye.

A Tear Jerker 5 out of 5 stars.

This story has to be on of the best stories in the entire One Last Wish series. It shows the hardships that teens that have Cystic Fibrosis have to endure daily. Kara Fischer, a girl with C.F., shows what she goes through every day with this disease, and how it affects her every day life. She deals with the same things we deal with and more; and it shows how determined she is to have a normal life. When she falls in love with Eric, and he finds out about her C.F., I was surprised to see what he did. This book is a heart-wrenching story that brought a tear to my eye while reading it. It is an amazing book with a great truth behind it. Showing all of the things that happen to the people suffering from the disease, in using a child for the main character, makes you relate to the character even more; whether you have the disease or not.
Lurlene McDaniel is an amazing author who does her research to make the story even greater. Knowing the facts about what is actually happening and putting it down with a plot and characters, teaches you about the disease or problem while keeping you interested. The powerful way she writes makes you stay intrigued, and makes you want to keep turning the pages to see what happens.
You want to know whether they are going to go out with someone or if they are going to get sick again. You begin to become that person and can feel what they are feeling, and can hear the voices of the other characters talking to you. You understand what is going on in their minds and what is in their hearts. Their feelings become yours; you cry when they cry, you feel the touch they feel, and you hear the words they hear. When you cry with them, you cry on both the inside and the outside as well. Your heart and eyes fill with tears and you just can't help but cry from both parts of you. You are them.

Editorial Review:

Sixteen-year-old Kara Fischer has cystic fibrosis  and only months to live. But the close-knit bond  she develops with Vince, who also has the disease,  helps her come to terms with her own illness.  Given one last wish, Kara wonders if miracles could  really happen.
