Its a sad age when we let our children read books about how homosexuality is normal. God didn't create us that way and our children shouldn't think thats how we should grow up to be. This book takes away the factor that homosexuality if a lifestyle choice and Gos doesn't condone it!

My partner and I were looking for some books for our young nephew that would help him understand that families are defined by love and caring; not gender sex which some seem to obsess over. As accepting and inclusive as our families have been over the last 25 years of our relationship, American society's exclusion of LGBT people from the mainstream has denied a complete and accurate view of the world for our kids. Without being in your face, this book opens the definition of family to include everyone, including my nephew's two uncles who he loves very much.

Editorial Review:

There are so many different types of families, and THE FAMILY BOOK celebrates them all in a funny, silly, and reassuring way. Parr includes adopted families, step-families, one-parent families, and families with two parents of the same sex, as well as the traditional nuclear family. His quirky humor and bright, childlike illustrations will make children feel good about their families. Parents and teachers can use this book to encourage children to talk about their families and the different kinds of families that exist.

If you haven't yet discovered the magic that is TODD'S WORLD, I recommend that you do so today! This series is great fun for both children and adults alike, whether it be in the form of a book or a video. Todd Parr knows what appeals to kids -- bold, bright, colorful illustrations and characters that are all unique in their own special way.

With IT'S OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT, children of all ages learn that no matter what your difference -- being in a wheelchair, being embarrassed, having different moms or dads, having an invisible friend -- it's perfectly A-OK. From the fanciful to the truthful to the whimsical, all kinds of differences are explored in ways that are easy to understand for the youngest reader, but that will also send home a message to those who are older.

This is one book you need in your personal collection!

Editorial Review:

For anyone who ever doubted it, Todd Parr is here to tell us all that it's okay to be different. With his signature artistic style, featuring brightly colored, childlike figures outlined in heavy black, Parr shows readers over and over that just about anything goes. From the sensitive ("It's okay to be adopted"--the accompanying illustration shows a kangaroo with a puppy in her pouch) to the downright silly ("It's okay to eat macaroni and cheese in the bathtub"), kids of every shape, size, color, family makeup, and background will feel included in this gentle, witty book. In this simple, playful celebration of diversity, Parr doesn't need to hammer readers over the head with his message.

Parr is well known for his funky feel-good titles, including Things That Make You Feel Good/Things That Make You Feel Bad, Underwear Do's and Don'ts, and This Is My Hair. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter

Not normal feelings 1 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I was hoping for a book that covered normal feelings like happy, sad, proud, etc. Instead this book is about off beat feelings like "I feel like camping with my dog." I am sure this is an appealing story for little children with all of the bright colors and pictures. However, if you are looking for legitamate feelings this is not the book.

Love This Book 5 out of 5 stars.

Great way to teach kids that everyone has feelings - some serious and some silly. Drawings are fun, and the message is beautiful.

Another cute Todd Parr board book 5 out of 5 stars.

Illustrations are fun and funny, and helps me (Dad) "illustrate" emotions for my young daughter. She finds the faces funny.

Excellent book to read to curious toddlers! 5 out of 5 stars.

My son really enjoys when I read this book to him. He has learned to act out the feelings like "scared", "happy", "crying" and "cranky"... we both laugh together everytime we go through this exercise when we read the book. It has also helped me control his toddler tantrum - when he starts being cranky, I simply remind him of the book and tell him to act out the other "feelings" - and he totally forgets why he was cranky! Thanks, Todd Parr! I would definitely recommend this book to parents of other toddlers.

A four year old boy seems to think if you are for peace you can't enjoy the power rangers and other toys with weapons. This book explains what peace is. This four year old boy seems to get it.

I love this book and have bought 4 copies of it to give as gifts. I originally stumbled across it in a store and gave it to my niece for her 2nd birthday. Since then each time my wife and I have been presented with the need for a gift for a small child we have come to Amazon and bought the book. I also got one for our church's childrens library. The pictures and colors are great. One line of text per page and the message is awesome. In a world where "Peace" is so often defined as the absense of war, it is nice to see a book with many interpretations that help to define the word for children in positive terms, not by what it is not.

"Peace is having enough pizza in the world for everyone!" What kid won't understand that?

The book also comes in two sizes. Both are fine, but if you are planning on using it to read to a group of children (at church, school, or a library) I would recommend the larger size.

Editorial Review:

Today everyone is talking about peace. But how do you explain this abstract conceptto young children? Todd Parr is here to help. Like his bestselling title It+s Okay to be Different, The Peace Book gives parents and teachers a valuable tool in talking about a challenging subject. Todd+s bright, child-friendly pictures and simple, inspiring text tell kids just what they need to know:Timeless and universal, this primer about peace belongs in every home and classroom all over the world.

Editorial Review:

Todd Parr likes to keep things simple. In his world, there isn't much gray area between good and bad... and in his small, square books, blazing with primary colors and positive "it's okay to be you" reinforcement, there is no gray at all! Do's and Don'ts could be called an etiquette primer--sort of. "Do change your socks every day," he tells us. "Don't make anyone smell them," he adds. "Do have lunch with a monkey," but "don't eat his bananas." "Do brush your teeth after every meal," but "don't brush with peanut butter." You get the idea. With all of the titles in this series--Things That Make You Feel Good, Things That Make You Feel Bad, This Is My Hair, and The Okay Book--young children will no doubt giggle at Parr's childlike, funny illustrations of various slapstick scenarios as well as his references to smelly feet, food in the hair, chocolate-covered bugs, worm stew, and the like. Sometimes all you need is a little silliness, and these bold, colorful books fit the bill. (Baby to preschool)

Editorial Review:

Whether they're working at home or working far away, teaching you how to walk or how to ride a skateboard, wearing suits or wearing two different socks, daddies can be pretty cool. With childlike smiling stick figures, bold, brilliant color, and upbeat text, picture-book creator Todd Parr celebrates the diverse, wonderful world of fathers in The Daddy Book. As in his Mommy Book, Parr focuses on the differences between individual parents ("Some daddies make cookies. Some daddies stop for doughnuts."), but brings it all together every few pages with lines like, "All daddies love to kiss and hug you!" or "All daddies like to watch you sleep!" Parr's quirky artwork and eternally optimistic--yet never saccharine--books are truly irresistible, for both grownups and kids. Don't miss any of his friendly, esteem-boosting titles: The Best Friends Book, It's Okay to Be Different, Underwear Do's and Don'ts, and lots more. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter

classic Parr 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Another great book from a great author. Silly illustrations & good text make fun reading with kids. This book follows the same pattern as Parr's The Mommy Book, The Daddy Book, etc. which makes it familiar for kids with the whole collection. Lots of fun for Grampie, too...a sweet gift to help announce a first grandchild!

My grandson loves this book and so does his grandpa! 5 out of 5 stars.

My grandson just loves this book by Todd Parr...the colors are so bright and the pictures so simple but pure. We read this to him almost everyday. His grandpa is delighted that we bought this book for him to share with his grandson.

A fun book about Grandpas! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book features grandpa's doing all kinds of different things in fun, colorful illustrations. I bought this book for my daughter to give to her grandpa for Father's Day. There is even a page at the end of the book for you to put a picture of grandpa!!

Editorial Review:

DESCRIPTION: With his characteristic vibrant illustrations and simple but poignant text, Todd Parr celebrates the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren. From dancing grandmas and hula-hooping grandpas to grandmas and grandpas in wheelchairs and in nursing homes, these two books are a tribute to all the different kinds of grandparents in the world.

This is a very fun and clever look at how silly hair can be. 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I was having a 'bad' hair day when someone gave this book to me and it instantly made me laugh. The last page of the book summarizes it all: "No matter how your hair looks, always feel good about yourself." This book is so simple, yet inspiring to people of all ages.

This is my Hair 5 out of 5 stars.

Great way to get my 3 year old to think about her alopecia. She went away and thought about it for a while and then came back and started asking questions. A light hearted way to start talking about being bald. Lovely illustrations. The last page comes very abruptly and I felt it was a bit of a shock after pages of this is me with my hair in the snow, in the wind etc and then this is me with no hair.

I like most of Todd Parr's books 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The illustrations are what caught my eye with Todd Parr. I like the simple text in his books as well, but I only gave 4 stars because some of the text is a little too out there ("This is my hair when a flying saucer landed in it") and the repetiton becomes a little monotonous for the reader. I really like the messages sent in his books, or in this case, directly stated.

Editorial Review:

Open up this book and see how silly hair can be! Hair with spaghetti, hair in the wind, hair in curlers, and hair with chewing-gum.

Editorial Review:

Although some mommies drive motorcycles, and others drive minivans; some mommies go fishing while others go shopping, all mommies want their children to be who they are. That's Todd Parr's story, and he's sticking with it (as reinforced by his It's Okay to Be Different, This Is My Hair, and lots more funky, friendly picture books). Using his trademark style of brightly colored stick figures, with bold outlined smiley faces for heads, Parr portrays a world of diversity and peace in his simple, esteem-boosting titles. Moms are celebrated here (naturally, you'll find dads in The Daddy Book), in all their traditional, eccentric, athletic, hip, nurturing glory. Each spread shows moms doing their thing: dancing moms opposite swimming moms, short-hair moms next to big-hair moms, and work-at-home moms across from work-in-big-buildings moms. The refrain is that all moms love their kids: "All mommies like to hang out with you!" "All mommies like to watch you sleep!" The Mommy Book is reassuring and fun. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter
