Dreamweaver CS4 is a massive step forward in terms of integration with the rest of the CS4 suite (Flash, Fireworks, Photoshop, etc.), and also includes a whole host of exciting new features of its own. The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS4 with CSS, Ajax, and PHP concentrates on getting the best out of Dreamweaver CS4, rather than going into every menu item and toolbar icon. The emphasis is on developing websites compliant with the latest web standards, using CSS, JavaScript libraries (with particular emphasis on Spry, Adobe's implementation of Ajax), and PHP.

The book covers all aspects of the new user interface, including workspace layouts, iconic panels, the related documents feature, Live View, Code Navigator, and Live Code. It also shows how to use the improved CSS editing features, and JavaScript code introspection. There is also coverage of other new features, such as version control through Subversion integration, and the improved support for Photoshop integration through the use of Smart Objects.

A Little Dry 3 out of 5 stars.

Aside from the obvious, that it has nothing whatsoever to do with THE Bible, it's quite dry and un-informing. I'm unable to get much from the book; other than "history of the web" type stuff. Buy at your own risk.

The CS3 Bible is both a great way to learn the program from scratch and a great reference when you need to solve a particular problem. There is more complete information than in the manual, and it is easier to use and learn from. If you have never used Dreamweaver before there is a nice set of tutorials and everything about using the program from a short and easily understood explanation of CSS to using programming language and integrating other adobe products. I keep this around for reference, and I have recommended it to others for learning the program.

A Great "HOW TO" book for Dreamweaver CS3 5 out of 5 stars.

This book has been a great help for me while switching from Frontpage to Dreamweaver. The book is very clear in illustration and detail and was useful in the immediate set up of my website. I work with all Adobe products and this was my last learning curve - made easy with this book.

Dreamweaver is the leading web authoring tool and CSS is the recommended method for creating accessible web pages, yet it's a common idea that the two cannot operate smoothly together. I wanted to learn CSS from the best, not from a friend, a college tech, or a book written by a designer who is 'familiar' with CSS. I've watched Greg Rewis' video tutorials on Adobe TV called Taming The Web and have gained more in those 5 or 6 'shows' so far than the quickie learning books. These two are the best, and they make me want to be as good as they are at CSS and the tool for creating it. Talent sharpens talent. Haven't you felt more challenged and have ended up pushing yourself to be better when playing a game or sport with someone better than you versus someone you can beat with ease. This book is like having Michael Jordan as your coach, not the local kid whose pretty good.

Learning CSS is vital to my family's livelihood and time is hard to come by, and I've already given to much time to some of the many books out there that simply offer tips & tricks which force me to buy another book later on that covers the proper construction of CSS to allow those tips & tricks to work in the first place.

Thanks to the two writers of this book. What a blessing to have the best at CSS teaching me how it works & what it is capable of while the best at using the very tool, Dreamweaver, instructs me on building it.

This book will make my precious time set aside for schooling myself be productive and my family's business at GiveItToRob.com prosperous.
