The "Jump on the Bandwagon" Noni Juice Bible 1 out of 5 stars.
28 of 34 people found this review helpful.

This is the book that all "Jump on the Bandwagon" sellers of Noni Juice reference to push their "better" versions of the Original Noni Juice company called Tahitian Noni International. In truth, this book actually rates somewhere in the 3 to 4 star rating for its contribution to the study of the Noni fruit. However, I decided to give it the lowest rating available due to its exploitation by companies that cite this book as their only source of scientific "evidence." And, to advise you, and all those that read reviews, to be aware of companies that practice this shameless tactic. Nonetheless, this has always been the procedure that imitators desperately resort to in their efforts to make a buck! As a matter of fact, these other companies that sell "better" versions would not even exist if it were not for the original researchers at Tahitian Noni International! With this in mind, consider the following in your search for Noni Juice and the benefits that it may contribute to not only your health, but the health of your entire family. First, know that the most outrageous lie that one "Jump on the Bandwagon" seller is circulating around the internet is the false, unsubstantiated claim that "Juice Blends" are somehow inferior! This is a prime example of imitator companies that I referred to previously above that have absolutely no scientific research behind them to make this, or any other claim! Again, they just take a few concepts from this book, and make-up the rest. If they, or any of the countless other "Jump on the Bandwagon" Noni Juice sellers had the funds to actually do one speck of research or development, they would know that scientists have proven that adding small amounts of grape and blueberry juice to the Noni actually enhances the performance of the enzymes that circulate in our bodies! Nonetheless, they cannot reproduce this original Noni Juice from Tahitian Noni International because this formula, and even its bottle, are patented!
Last, know that the author of this book, Dr. Solomon, was also using the Original Noni Juice developed by Tahitian Noni International to conduct his studies even though the "Band Wagon Jumpers" won't admit to this fact. By the way, Dr. Solomon never had his medical license revoked for any reason.

Editorial Review:

During the past three years, renowned medical doctor Neil Solomon has done an intense study on Noni Juice that comes from the tropical fruit Morinda Citrifolia. Dr. Solomon is frequently asked questions regarding the optimal use of noni juice in connection with certain disorders and health conditions. In this booklet Dr. Solomon gives guidance on how much Noni Juice people should drink, how often they should drink it and for what conditions.

Interesting read 3 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This book is a bit dated (published originally in the 60s and later updated). Unlike most juicing books, this one does not tell you to rid all meat from your diet (though it suggests cutting back). It provides interesting formulas for juice fasting and reorganizing your diet. The book suffers from a lack of update. Consequently, I was wondering if the philosophies purported in this book could be improved upon given what we now know about nutrition.

The Best 5 out of 5 stars.

The best book for this topic

A great book on the health benefits of juicing 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book. Yes it's true it was written years ago, but the nutritional information about vegetables and fruits is still valid today. It's a great book to have in case you are feeling sick or just want to stay healthy! I gave it 4 stars only because it could be expanded, other than that, it's a 5 star book.

Great exploration of an unusual ingredient 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

If you've found your way to this page, you probably already know that verjus is the juice of unripe grapes. It has a mild acidity, not as strong as lemon or vinegar, and with a hint of wine.

Because I kept running across recipes that called for verjus, I finally bought a bottle from Williams Sonoma (which I think you can get via Amazon). Naturally, after that, all those recipes seemed to disappear (does that happen to you too?); the bottle sat unopened for quite a while. So, since this book was reasonably priced and promised an overview of this unusual (and somewhat "in") ingredient, I sprang for it. I'm rather glad I did, but there are a few caveats.

The author, Maggie Beer, turns out to be the manufacturer of the verjus I purchased, and is from Australia; I've seen verjus sold directly by California winemakers, so hers isn't the only choice. She gives a short history of verjus, which is interesting but doesn't go on too long; a short explanation of its manufacture; and a background on how she got into the business. The rest is divided into sauces and condiments; vegetables; fish and shellfish; poultry; meat; and desserts. Obviously, verjus is a flexible ingredient! No photos, alas.

Most of the recipes are appealing, and they are indeed chosen to show off verjus' virtues. So far, I've only cooked one: chicken breasts with rosemary, pine nuts, and verjus (which also has raisins, not mentioned in the title), with her suggested side dish of soft polenta. Delicious. It was quite simple to put together, and took less than an hour start-to-finish. I now have my eye on Almond and Garlic Soup with Grapes, and a filet of pork with sage and verjus. None of these are very elaborate or complex recipes, but they all feel slightly special.

The caveat is that this is an Australian cookbook, and is not "translated" for American cooks. I dare say that most of us can cope with ingredients in milliliters or kg (my measuring cups have multiple measures, and I'm sure yours do). What throws me off is the different names for some ingredients; from context I can figure out that "yabbies" are like crawfish, and that "chook" is another word for chicken, but I haven't yet figured out what a "scotch fillet steak" is (filet mignon?). Also, of course, the ingredients reflect the common foodstuffs of the area: more lamb and rabbit than we see here, for example.

Somehow, this makes the book charming. And now that bottle of verjus is open, I'm sure to use this cookbook again!

I recommend this book, especially if you like to try new ingredients. I think it's also be a fun gift for a foodie friend; it's inexpensive, and you can be fairly sure your friend doesn't already have it on his bookshelf.

Editorial Review:

Verjuice, literarlly "green juice", originally referred to the juice extracted from crab apples and was in constant use in British cooking from medieval times up the 20th century, when it was largely replaced by a squeeze of lemon juice. In France it was the juice from unripe grapes and was a staple of French provincial cooking. In the 21st century grape Verjuice is going through a Renaissance. It has the tartness of lemon juice and the acidity of vinegar without the harshness of either and is used much in the same way to heighten flavour, making it a useful and versatile ingredient especially in sauces and dressings. It is being tipped to become the next most popular and fashionable culinary staple.

Using nutritious juices for any taste, occasion, or lifestyle.
This book will certainly help you do all of this. I have spent a great many years juicing, so am well aware of the benefits. I like how this book uses creativity to make healthy juices exciting and tasty. Anyone who has ever picked up a juice book will adore this one!

But Juice Power for the thirsty soul is not just a juice book; it is jam packed with lively smoothie and shake recipes as well. All of the recipes are easy to make and could easily accomodate a raw foodist by substituting nuts and seeds to replace the soy. We tried all of the recipes in the book and our favorite ones are Ginger Get Well, Tropical Dream, and the Daily Grape Drink. For the sugar aspect of the recipes (maple syrup, honey, etc.) we substituted wild raw agave nectar. Juice Power for the thirsty soul is a real gem. My son Ian and I highly recommend this book. --Angela Elliot

Editorial Review:

Juice Power contains a great collection of recipes that will help boost energy, elevate mood, increase stamina, relax nerves, improve memory and make children smile!
