"Buried Treasure" 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Not every guidebook on the keys would feature such an unassuming place as Jim and Val's Tugboat Restaurant in Key Largo. Jim and Val's Tugboat is one of the true "buried treasures" of Florida, and this guidebook has enough sense to put it in bold. Wonder if we'll see the place over-run by "foodies" who will go anywhere to try something new.

Long ago, pirates prowled the waters around the keys, and nowadays, it's chic to blame the congestion of the keys on tourists, but sometimes it's just people drawn to the good food (like the steak poivre which is simply out of this world) or people trying to find out what drew poet Wallace Stevens back, year after year, to the Key West hotel about which he wrote such a haunting poem. This guidebook will be a nice souvenir for you, even if you haven't been in Key Largo for some time. It will bring it all back to you--the salty creosote smell, the cerise skies that turn inky at night, the stars that twinkle right above your head--you can almost catch one by the toe.

Editorial Review:

Perfect for lovers of hot beaches and warm water with complete information on swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and boating. This book guides readers to both famous and unknown spots all along the beautiful string of islands. It also includes reviews of over 80 local restaurants including the best places for fresh seafood and homemade key lime pie.

Amazing 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

These books tell you all about the story behind Disney World like Pirates Of the Caribbean's Never ending game of chess.

Fun read, but scratches the surface. 4 out of 5 stars.

I love to read about the designing and background to the evolution of the Parks & Pavillions. Each one gets 2-4 thin pages. I'm still looking for the book that gives the depth that Jason Surrell did for his "Pirates OTC" book.

Because I love Epcot 5 out of 5 stars.

If you love Walt Disney World and enjoy a little behind the scenes trivia, then this book is for you. Beautifully printed with pictures and lots of insights to how my favorite park has evolved. Fun stuff to pass the time with.

Editorial Review:

Second in this line of pocket-size paperbacks, this one answers the question: "What would it be like to walk through Epcot with an Imagineer by your side?" The Imagineering Field Guide to Epcot provides that experience: pointing out details and telling stories, back stories, and Imagineering insights never before heard, condensed into a portable, easily referenced park guide. These user-friendly, beautifully illustrated guides are innovative and entertaining books that will enrich the guests’ time at the happiest places on earth.

A good starting point... 3 out of 5 stars.
7 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This was a good book for a general description of several trails in North Carolina, but didn't give many details. I think I was looking for something that would give me enough information to pick one trail out of them all to visit, but the brief descriptions didn't give me enough to go on. If you already know which trail you want to trek and it is one of the trails covered in the book, you're pretty well set. You will, however, need another map to know exactly how to get to that particular trail...the book has a map with a general location but no specific driving information.

99.5/100 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is an excellent resource and planning guide. I have nothing to add to the earlier reviews, most of which are 5 stars.

The lack of GPS coordinates of the trailheads is the one glaring deficiency and the reliance on another map resource is no substitute. The copy edit staff should have done their homework and inserted this information, since it could be done from their desks. It appears instead that they put their efforts into misleading advertising -

"Detailed trail descriptions, and GPS-compatible trail maps"

Nevertheless, I have since purchased extra copies for gifts.

Fun But Lacking 3 out of 5 stars.
14 of 18 people found this review helpful.

This was a fun read and had a lot of info in the Personalized Properties and Roadside Oddities chapters that was new to me.
The Local Legends and Ancient Mysteries sections were very thorough for what was covered but did not make an effort to cover a lot of other interesting forlklore or sites in Texas.
Portions of the Unexplained Phenomena and Bizarre Beasts are previously published verbatim by Rob Riggs in his book 'In the Big Thicket'. I was hoping he had contributed something new for these sections since I have already purchased his book, but was, however, disappointed. The Haunted Places section was sadly lacking. The places that were covered were entertaining, but some of Texas' well known haunted locations (for example: La Bahia Blanca)were totally overlooked and I can only assume poor research caused this absence.
Worth the price, but don't expect a whole lot if you have already researched the areas of knowledge covered in the book.

Fun, but needs more info 3 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This was a fun read but sorely lacking in details. With the words "travel guide" on the cover, I expected to be able to find where these places were. At best, they gave us vague details or just a city name. This book was more ghost stories and Texas tales than travel guide.

A great buy and a great planner! 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this map from Amazon, sight unseen, but based on reviews. As a reviewer myself, I know the value of these reviews. However, when this dinky little map fell out of the envelope, I was so disappointed--UNTIL I actually sat down with the map and [...] and planned out the trip.

Let me describe the map and try to show you how compact is the size and the information. It is 16 inches long and 8 1/2 inches high. On one side is a detailed map of the French Quarter and Central Business District, including the Superdome. At the center top is the Treme District with the Louis Armstrong Park. All the hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions are marked in the French Quarter and elsewhere. I was so surprised because the map is so compact. Streetcar and bus routes are also indicated.

When I found hotels on the website, I then found them on the map and could easily decide if the location was suitable. Since we are going during off-season and during the week, prices are exceptional. [...] is an excellent website to aid in planning.

On the flip side of the map is the entirety of New Orleans on a smaller scale with a larger scale of an extension of the Garden District from the French Quarter to Audubon Park and Zoo, another family-oriented tourist destination. Along the top and right side are listings of major streets with coordinate points, as well as hotels, places of interest, restaurants with coordinates.

You might want a larger, more detailed map for getting in and out of New Orleans or if your hotel is outside the city. If not, "Streetwise New Orleans Map" is truly all you need. See you at Cafe du Monde bright and early for cafe au lait and beignets. We've got a city to explore and an adventure to live.

Editorial Review:

Road trips are back again, because by traveling in the security of your won car and visiting friendly small town America, it brings back the way America used to be and the way we would like it to be again. To help those who travel up and down the East coast, Drive I-95 is a new style of guidebook. It combines colorful easy-to-follow pictorial maps and fun stories, eliminating the trepidation of a road trip down America s busiest highway. Travelers can look ahead exit-by-exit to see which motels and gas stations are coming up, where the radars trap are or where to stop for a good homemade meal. The drive from Boston to Miami or any section in-between will become more pleasant and less stressful by knowing where to find: 24 hour gas stations (and which ones have a mechanic!) and pharmacies, 800 numbers for motel chains, camp grounds, golf courses, places that allow pets, shopping malls, supermarkets, internet availability and even which radio stations to tune to. This husband and wife team share stories of the road: history that happened on it, quirky museums worth a visit, Americana trivia, homey towns to explore, or places to run with the kids and pets. These can be read for entertainment during the drive and may entice motorists to stop, stretch their legs and discover someplace new. The maps and the fun stories of the road are useful for family travelers (Christmas, Spring break or summer), seniors, salesmen, truckers, campers and RVers, University students and their parents, military personnel and people who live and work near I-95
