Great Planning Guide 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Passporter's WDW book is a great organizer and planner. Although I visit Disney almost every year, I still like to keep up-to-date with its many changes. So for my 2009 Disney vacation, I purchased several new Disney World guidebooks. Ultimately, I found that my favorite guides were Passporter's and The Healthy Guide to Walt Disney World 2009: How to Eat Right and Stay Fit in Disney - The NEW Diet, Dining, Food, Fitness and Complete Weight Loss Book.

Passporter's Disney guide includes great mapping details, abundant general Disney info and a helpful journal. Well organized and easy to read, any Disney guest will benefit from its vast contents. It also contains clear, concise reviews and straighforward planning tips.

As I also like to maintain a healthy lifestlye while traveling, The 2009 Healthy Guide to WDW was very beneficial. A popular book within the Disney community, The Healthy Guide was best at updating me in the areas of 2009 Disney Dining, ADR's, menus, diet and fitness options.

Concurring with many Disney fans, I agree that authors Jennifer Marx (Passporter's) and Dan Green (Healthy Guide) have written the two best guides to assist guests on their Walt Disney World vacation in 2009.

Editorial Review:

The size and scope of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is enough to make the most seasoned traveler shiver. This guide covers each of the four major parks — Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom — as well as all of the Disney-owned hotels and over 300 dining options. Every map, photo, chart, illustration, and worksheet is in full color, with additional use of color to highlight important points, such as items that are new or have changed since the publication of the previous edition.

Barrett takes a trip to DisneyWorld to a new level. Most people walk through the parks oblivious to the little details that the Imagineers have included in each park and resort. This slim book, 220 pages and 8.9" x 4", fits easily in your backpack to provide you with scavenger hunts for all of the known Hidden Mickeys at the DisneyWorld parks and resorts. Each chapter begins with clues to the locations of the Hidden Mickeys at each location. If you follow the clues, you will have a quick tour though each park/resort. If you just want the answers, Barrett provides the answers at the end of each chapter. Either way, you will learn more about the parks and resorts and also find these little treasures.

Using this book, it was easy to engage everyone in the family in the search. The kids will enjoy discovering these Mickeys and will also make you look at your surroundings. While searching, I was surprised at the number of people that took interest in our hunts. They never thought to look closely at their environment. In the Magic Kingdom, I told a few people that there windows, above Main Street, that actually meant something. They never thought to look above eye level. Since we visited the parks more than once during our stay, this book made the additional forays into the parks more interesting and fun. If you feel as though you have seen and done everything in a particular park or resort, this book will make your next visit more engaging. Two of my favorite Hidden Mickeys were found at Coronado Springs. The third was in the concrete at Hollywood Studios.

Barret explains why some of these are significant, which will add a little Disney history to your visit, too.

This is a great book for anyone that is planning a visit to DisneyWorld and want to experience something a little different. And it will probably entertain your kids, too, no matter how old they are.

Editorial Review:

Described as a must have and definitely something that you'll want to bring along the next time you head down to WDW by Disney guru Jim Hill of jimhillmedia.com, Steve Barrett's Hidden Mickeys is a necessity for Walt Disney World buffs. This updated third edition adds scores of new hidden Mickeys and eliminates those erased by time.

DC Map 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a nice map because it is plastic coated. It is normal map size which makes it a bit big to carry but has all the landmarks noted pretty well.

Don't leave the hotel without it! 5 out of 5 stars.

We used this guide everyday of our trip to Washington, DC. The subway guide was especially useful. I never felt lost, and didn't waste any time trying to figure out where to go. It was such an important thing to have each day, we double checked each time we left the hotel to make sure we had it. I highly recommend it.

Easy To Read 5 out of 5 stars.

This map is very easy to read, and a great tool for getting around DC. The laminated cover keeps it durable, and the size makes it easy to pull out and look at anywhere. I recommend it highly.

More please! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I usually love the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides, which may have raised my expectations of this one on Washington, DC. There could easily have been an extra twenty or thirty pages - or am I just being greedy?

As I live in Australia, I thought Washington DC would mean the entire capital. The book mainly focuses on the areas along the Potomac, such as the Mall, Georgetown, and Foggy Bottom. Areas such as Dupont Circle and Kalorama have been relegated to the 'Further Afield' section, which I found disappointing.

There's quite a good section on the White House and the beautiful buildings which surround it, but again I was left wanting more.

It's still a beautiful book though, and the photographs are clear and crisp, but there just wasn't enough for this armchair traveller. I guess I'll have to get out of my armchair and experience Washington DC for myself. At least this travel guide has whet my appetite!

Editorial Review:

Do you want to know about Washington DC's monuments, festivals, museums, history and shopping? Well, look no further the Eyewitness Travel to Washington DC has all of the information about the city and more! This guide is packed with illustrations, photographs and maps to help you navigate around the District. The floor plans of all major sites and the 3-D aerial views of Washington's most interesting districts allow you to feel practiced in the art of tourism. There are also three specially devised walking tours that will point out all of the intriguing things to do around town. Make yourself feel at home with DK's Eyewitness Travel Guide to Washington DC.

Great information and details of attractions 5 out of 5 stars.

Used this book to plan what to see in a limited 3 day visit and was very pleased. Also bought Eyewitness guide, but this is the one I'll be taking along.

Not so good for family travel 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Like other reviewers, I purchased this guide after using the excellent Unofficial Guide to Disney Word a couple of years ago. Whereas the Disney book is targeted right at families, this book seems to cater more to the business traveler who wants to take in a few sites on the side. Most disappointing was the rather snobbish dining section that was essentially useless to families looking for a place to eat while or after touring the mall. This book leaves the impression that you might find a few hotdog carts near the Lincoln Memorial. The reality is that there are several permanent refreshment stands scattered about the mall with hotdogs and much more. You would also have no idea that the Nat'l Museum of Natural History and the Nat'l Gallery of Art have better lunch food selections than the Air and Space Museum. Information on what can and cannot be brought on various tours need improvement as well. Are prohibited items checked at a holding station or put in the trash? It depends on which tour you're doing, but you won't find out by reading this book. Hopefully there are better family-oriented guides to DC than this one.

Editorial Review:

Should leave fans of Mickey smiling from ear to ear. -- Chicago Tribune

A thorough overview, with inside tips, facts and quizzes. With more than 400 color photos, it also makes a nice souvenir. -- Boston Globe

May be the most colorful, visually stunning and deeply researched guidebook on the market. A warm, loving portrait of Disney World, for people who want to love Disney World. -- Orlando Sentinel

Endless tips and trivia. -- Knoxville News-Sentinel

There are dozens of guides to Disney World, but I like this one by a husband-and-wife team who visited Disney World more than 700 times. They're not affiliated with Disney, but received much inside access by the company to provide very detailed descriptions of each ride, show and attraction. Among the gems are fun facts, suggested itineraries and little things to look for. -- Florida Times Union

Offers an in-depth history of the attractions and the parks themselves... and the most in-depth run-down of the two Disney water parks. -- Budget Travel

Book Description
The best-looking Disney World guidebook, The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 is also the most interesting. Its spectacular photography grabs your eye, then its fantastic wealth of information keeps you glued to its pages. Every aspect of Disney World becomes easy to understand, as color-coded chapters lay out everything one subject at a time, and gorgeous full-color images bring it all to life. Packed with details you just can't find anywhere else, every chapter is so helpful you'll find yourself sticking post-it notes everywhere.

The Planning Your Trip chapter offers a seven-step process to organizing your vacation, then a gold mine of practical information. As for theme parks, each ride or show gets its own article, many of which run several pages. Water parks are covered the same way, which makes the book the only real guide to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Even diversions such as parasailing, stock-car driving and surfing lessons are fully described and illustrated.

A new restaurant chapter is a collection of 88 reviews. The accounts are descriptive and honest, and include useful details such as which character meals can usually take walk-ins. The accommodations chapter covers each Disney resort with a photo-packed article as well as a comprehensive At a Glance sidebar. The combination gives you a nice overview of each complex, but also makes it easy to scan them all by price, amenities, location, or other criteria.

Supplemental Material
Like the most complete DVD set, the book is packed with bonus features. The best are the background articles on Disney's theme park attractions. For example, three side stories describe the history, science and set design of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Other columns cover the histories of Space Mountain and It's a Small World. An animal guide describes the odd behaviors you can witness at Animal Kingdom, from the forearm-licking of the park's kangaroos to the stick-sharing rituals of its exotic birds. Breezy feature articles cover the wacky histories of the Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella fairy tales.

The result is a hugely entertaining book, but one that doesn't flinch from the frustrating realities of a Disney trip. It acknowledges the long lines, the challenge of getting key restaurant reservations, the cluelessness you have on how to get a front-row seat to the High School Musical street show... and provides the magical solutions. Tip bars run across the bottom of most pages.

Fitting the visual beauty of its subject, The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World 2008 is printed on gloss paper in full color. The book is fully updated, with the latest park and resort information and current prices and policies.

Don't leave home without it! 5 out of 5 stars.

My husband and I are passionate divers! He takes fabulous pictures and I like to identify what he takes pictures of. I have a couple of the plastic i.d. cards of fish, but so many critters aren't on them. However, these books have everything! It's nice to go to a reef and know what everything is and what it might do to you! This set is expensive, but you'll make up the cost by not having to buy multiple I.D. books.

Excelent 5 out of 5 stars.

We have used these volumes regularly to aid in identifying what we've observed when SCUBA diving. Excellent photos and descriptions.

This is THE book on Caribbean underwater life. Any where you dive this is the reference used. The only thing missing from the set is the behavior book, and it would be a great addition.
