After having read the English version, I immediately sought information regarding a Spanish one so that I could give them to my grandchildren as Christmas gifts.

Editorial Review:

Anyone who is (or who ever has been) 13 will identify with Leslie's struggles to make sense of her family, her faith, her own thoughts, and the world. Through her letters to God, Leslie deals with questions as big as the very nature of God and as small as why Mom gets so bent out of shape about how the bathroom towels are folded. Sandra Humphrey has done a beautiful job of not only creating a very believable character, but more importantly, of showing young readers how inextricably faith is linked to the issues of everyday life.
Lynn Gilliam
Associate Editor, Pockets

Leslie has just turned 13 -- and she is having a very bad year. Not only is she stuck in a new school where she doesn't know anyone, but she's also stuck in a life group at her church where the leader of her small discussion group asks tough questions that she can't answer. Come along and join Leslie on her faith journey as she writes letters to God, and in the process begins to discover answers to some of her problems.

Keepin' It Real is sassy and sensitive. It's an honest look at a young girl's struggles -- and insights -- as she faces puberty and searches for faith.
Mary Lou Carney
Editor-in-chief, Guideposts for Teens

Warm, witty, and real, these true-to-life prayers offer delightful windows into the heart of God and every girl who prays to him.
Lois Walfrid Johnson
Author, The Disappearing Stranger and the Adventures of the Northwoods series

Keepin' It Real will help young people all over the world love themselves and God -- and have light and hope in this wild, confusing world.
Troy and Genie Nilsson
Christian Songwriters

Sandra Humphrey takes on all the trials of teenagehood -- pimples, dates, gym class, even parents contemplating divorce -- and gives her readers an idea of just where to turn for help.
Rick Hamlin
Managing Editor, Guideposts

Must Read 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book was recommended by another mom. At first it sounds like something for first time moms. This is not the case. Each chapter is easy to read with lots of great ideas and suggestions. Lisa talks about taking care of youself so you can be a better mom. Every chapter focuses on the mom in different areas. Then at the end of each chapter, Lisa shares suggestions to accomplish it. She encourages moms to try one new thing, but to not feel guilty if you don't do them all. And a bonus of this book is that you can go online and receive an email encouraging you to put it into action. You can select a topic to work on for 21 days. I just finished working on cleaning your home. Everyday I got an encouraging email with tips and a prayer. It was really amazing. At the end of the 21 days, you select another topic. This is all free for those who purchase this book. I highly suggest it to any mom regardles of age or number of children!

Editorial Review:

Moms get so busy with the doing and the giving for their families that they never seem to have enough time to rest and receive. So many moms have bought into the world-view that they can have it all and then believe the self-talk that if I don't do it, it won't get done! Isn't it ironic that so many mothers are running on empty? Lisa Whelchel delivers a book full of practical tips and advice for mothers on how to find lost time in their day to nourish body, soul, and spirit.

Reading Her Book was like listening to Her in Person! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I loved this book! It was like sitting across from RoseAnne with a cup of coffee and her telling stories from her life that are both pleasant and thought provoking. Southern living and dependance on God were laid out, so that even a gal from the north (Canada) could understand.
Betty Davies
Director of Women Unlimited
A ministry of FEB CENTRAL

Editorial Review:

In moving reflections, Dr. RoseAnne Coleman shares heartwarming as well as difficult stories about growing up in the turbulent South of the 1950s and 60s. A lover of gardening, Dr. Coleman compares the painful and wounding moments in life to what every garden needs - manure. When manure is aged and combined with other nutrients, it can enrich any soil, producing a beautiful garden. Her first book, Stories I Keep, shares her journey to make sense of her stories. Along the way, she finds a loving God who points her to the beauty, purpose, and hope that He has been growing in her life all along.

The "How-To" of Direct and Intimate Dialogue with God 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is not just one of those "how-to" books that you read once and then say, "OK, I've got it now," and move on. It's certainly not a superficial treatment of lectio divina, despite its mere 157 pages.

Karl A. Schultz has studied the masters of lectio divina -- from ancient to modern -- for three decades. He is among the most prolific writers and speakers on the subject, a well-qualified expert on this most interactive form of prayer. The reader is indeed fortunate to have such a teacher, companion, and prayer partner. As the ancient Hebrews knew, it is wise to approach He-Whose-Name-Cannot-Be-Spoken in the company of an experienced guide.

The "interactive" aspect? Lectio divina facilitates dialogue between oneself and others, life's circumstances, Scripture, God... In fact, it's safe to say that nothing is beyond its scope. In "How to Pray With the Bible," Schultz teaches the reader to bring the whole of one's existence into contact with the word of God.

The cover of "How to Pray With the Bible" asserts that the author will "make simple" this ancient prayer form, but the reader should not underestimate this natural way of conversing with the Lord.

God is perfect in His simplicity, because He is One. The Scriptures tell us, also, that "God is love." Lectio divina brings us human beings, so complex in our fallenness and imperfections, into direct and intimate dialogue with that One Who is Love. Schultz's instructions, examples, hints, and helps take us beyond mere "method." With persistence and practice, we begin to taste, then understand, then live in intimate communion with the Divine, living simply and loving without boundaries, abiding in God as He abides in us.

For the interested reader, the bibliography can be a rich plan for further study. It includes general works on the Bible, lectio divina, and discernment, as well as the author's own contributions to the field, reflecting the breadth and depth of Schultz's research and personal reflection.

Should you be blessed to be stranded on a desert island with the experiences of a lifetime, a Bible, and this book, your "rescuers" would find yours to be the radiant face of one who has communed with the Creator of the Universe ... and lived.

so sweet 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is the sweetest. You'll slow down and see the world in your child's eyes.

I gave this to wife for Mother's Day 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My wife is a Julie Andrews fan, and that was enough to recommend this book. The book reflects on a mother's relationship with her child, and all that she comes to learn while "seeing" the world with a "child's eyes."

My wife loved the book. It makes for a wonderful gift.

An 18 page pamphlet 1 out of 5 stars.

Very disappointed. 'Heard about it on the Today TV show. It is an 18 page, hardcover pamphlet, 90% photos, with captions. Total text of "wisdom" could fill no more than 3 pages.

Editorial Review:

Thanks to you . . . a cloud becomes a castle for a king

Thanks to you . . . I notice wonder in the smallest thing

Children learn much about the world from their mothers. But what about the unexpected wisdom mothers gain while parenting?

Julie Andrews Edwards and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton share their mutual discoveries and delight in the growth experiences of childhood and motherhood. Accompanied by photographs from the authors' extended family collection, these personal exchanges between mother and child celebrate a special bond while reflecting a universal truth.

It's not ok with me either 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

A very inspiring story that left me with only one answer, it's not ok with me either. We see so many stories of actors, rock stars, billionaires, and politicians working in Africa. But Janine tells a story that should inspire each one of us to act. Normal people like you and me, teachers, grocery store clerks, stay at home moms, or college students. We may not all have the public's attention or millions of dollars, but we all have a skill to offer even if it is just love. Don't read this book unless you are prepared to honestly answer the question "Is it OK with you?" and then act on that answer.

Isn't it cool.... 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

"Isn't it cool"... That's what Janine's son Spencer said to her when she didn't have all the answers. "Isn't it cool that GOD knows and we don't have to." The faith of a child humbles all of us.
Janine and Ian Maxwell are THE story. The one of transformation in Christ. The struggles, the sacrifice, the obedience and stewardship. The faith of letting go and answering a call to serve, to become Christ-like.
From a life of luxury in Canada to slums in Africa. Janine doesn't do things 1/2 way. Her transparency is much appreciated in sharing her personal emotional struggles.
I recommend this book to every breathing soul alive today. If it doesn't move you in the very core of your being, check your pulse.
Not everyone can do as much as Heart for Africa is doing, but as Janine pointed out in a slideshow I saw, while in Swaziland on one of these missions, the power of one to change the course of a nation has been demonstrated on more than one occasion and though you can't out give GOD, it's sure fun trying.
This book is well written. It is an account of life changing events in the course of Janine and her family's plight. You will laugh and you will cry.
I pray though, that if you dare to turn it's pages and find the HOPE that is there, that you have the courage to act on the opportunity that GOD through Janine present you with. Go to [...] NOW !
"This is a test, do not fail." That's what GOD told me. I responded Janine responded. Will you respond? I promise you, life will NEVER be the same. You will say, "It's not OK with me!"

One of the coolest books I've ever read 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

OK, so say you have a 10 year old, who thinks she is 14, and you have friends who have a 14 year old who thinks any book on 'faith and morals' must be boring. Oh you could so change their mind with this book. My 10 year old begs me to read chapters to her in the car with her friends there - WHY? Because Justin Lookadoo is funny and hip/cool/happening/whatever your teenager says. I bought this book because I had met Justin Lookadoo at a booksellers convention, he's hard to miss. 6' 7" tall- not wide - and greatly weird looking. I thought anyone who looks like that and loves God...gets my attention. Then I saw his pic on the cover of this book in our Church Bookstore, and flipping through the book I saw how cool it looked not at all like a 'traditional' devotional book. And I was sold. I read three chapters to my family in the car on the way home. Read two more chapters to my friend the next day who is going to buy this book for her high school Bible Study. I predict this book will sell millions, and I plan on buying a great number for myself and friends. It's just the coolest book I've ever read for a devotional for teenagers, or those who wish they were teenagers, or those who rememer the teenage years! BUY IT NOW. You won't regret it. And you know "live with no regrets."

Editorial Review:

Skydiving. Ducks. Unexpected love. Falling down stairs. Doorknobs. Compassion. Duct tape.

What do all these random things have in common? Nothing--duh, that's what makes them random. But they all do come from the random and yet somehow oh-so-thought-provoking mind of Justin Lookadoo. And they somehow add up to a mind-altering and life-rearranging picture of what faith has to do with it all.

Whether you read these chapters one a day, one a week, or completely out of order, 97: Random Thoughts about Life, Love & Relationships is all about you stepping up. It's all about you digging deeper, growing bigger, and living with no regrets. Dive in. I dare you.
