Great if you are still an undergraduate! 3 out of 5 stars.
35 of 35 people found this review helpful.

This book is really insightful to those who are still earning their undergrad degrees. It offers many tips on resume writing, networking, and assessing ones own skills. If I were a junior in college this would have been a great source of information and inspiration. However, for someone who has been out of school for a short period of time, it doesn't offer much in the way of career guidance. It does offer good tips on graduate school and how to find the program that is right for you depending on what type of job you are interested in after. It also lists all the professional associations for a political scientist.

Tell Me Something I Didn't Know 2 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This book may be somethat interesting for polisci majors when they are first starting out, but once a person has their degree and their resume, it is not worth the time to read it.

Editorial Review:

Each book in the Great Jobs for... series helps students discover new employment possibilities, assess strengths and interests, and develop a path for advancement and success in a chosen field. Ideal for those exploring which major to take in college.

Decent Book for the Novice 3 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Ok this is a very useful, detailed guide. If you are new at looking for employment with the FEDS this guide is for you. It's very easy to read, well put together and all the information is there on one book. If you are already familiar on how to look for federal employment, know where to go and how to apply, this book could be somewhat useful. In my case I was looking for something that could have tips on improving my chances withing the federal system, unfortunately there are not real tips, just factual information. There is some room for improvement.

Editorial Review:

The process for applying for federal jobs has changed dramatically. In a nutshell: information about job vacancies and the application process are handled electronically--there is practically no contact with people! This book tells how to find available positions, how to apply for them, lists the types of jobs available, and shows where to obtain additional information.

Fantastic - required reading for EVERY highschool student! 5 out of 5 stars.
22 of 23 people found this review helpful.

This book helps you to understand the things you should consider throughout your teenage years, or even later, that will influence your adult life. It particularly focuses on choosing a career. The primary point is how to ensure you get and keep lots of options open throughout your life. Although it's really written for highschool students, college students would find it useful also. Actually, it's valuable even for adults. Very easy reading; only takes about an hour to read, but is well worth the time.

I wish I'd read this book years ago! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

I've heard the title of this book quoted for years. When I saw a copy at my inlaws house, I decided to read it.

Although it doesn't take lots of time to read, the return on time invested can be incredible. This is probably the best book I've read on goal setting--and I've read a ton.

I particularly like Campbell's realistic approach. He doesn't try to get you to squeeze your life into a predetermined, micromanaged mold. Instead, he offers lots of advice on how to increase your options as you go through life.

I'll be getting this book for my favorite high school grads for sure. But if you're a little past high school, as I am, don't count yourself out. This book could help just about anyone.

Editorial Review:

This book is a refreshing ingenious approach to per-sonal growth that will help you find to do with your life and improve your relationships with family and freinds. Dr. Campbell points out to readers the many paths to a satisfying, successful life.

The true people's history of the mines 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The best part about this book is that it was written 20 years after June originally arrived in Bolivia to write a book on the miners. Now she has returned and reviews the history of those 20 years and shows where today's miners, family and culture stands. This book is not a comparision of the past with the present but rather a building upon a tremendous history and struggle.

For the person not familiar with the mines and miners of Bolivia this is an excelent introduction. Here one meets a world turned upside down and inside out. Mountains are filled with spirits and miners, men ans women - side by side - fight for a better life. June enables one to share in the peoples' long history of struggle through insightful first hand accounts. She also shares her personal experience while reporting the stories and brings a more human element to the work.

June has done an excellent job identifyng and bringing to light the intricate web of cultural, political, and economical elements of Bolivian mining. I myself have relatives from the mining regions of Bolivia and wish to congratulate June on her depth and understanding of the people she presents. It is rare to find someone that has the ability to understand the cultural nuances that have a 5,000 year old tradition and see how the still prevail, albiet sometimes hidden or changed, in today's world. I wish to congratulate her on taking the time to understand the people she was studying and not perpetuating common stereotypes, of disorder, ignorance or misbegotten religious views.

I highly recommend this book to all!

Editorial Review:

In this powerful anthropological study of a Bolivian tin mining town, Nash explores the influence of modern industrialization on the traditional culture of Quechua-and-Aymara-speaking Indians.
