It's the only choice 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is the textbook that all EMT-B classes use, it's really the only choice you have. I found the companion study guide very helpful for studying. The 9th edition includes a CD and the on-line resources were great too. I especially like the chapter on Terrorist response, rather interesting comment about society and the times we live in.

Editorial Review:

Editorial Review:

The most complete resource for EMT-B training, this best-selling, reader-friendly book contains clear, step-by-step explanations with comprehensive, stimulating, and challenging material that prepares and equips users for real on-the-job situations. With its use of the case study model, state-of-the-art scans, algorithms, protocols, and the inclusion of areas above and beyond the DOT protocols, this new edition of Prehospital Emergency Care prepares users for success. The assessment and emergency care sections provide the most up-to-date strategies for providing competent care; and the enrichment sections further enhance readers' ability to assess and manage ill and injured patients in prehospital environments. Topics covered include an excellent introductory section that contains an overview of the human body, baseline vital signs, history taking, and ethical and legal issues. Subsequent chapters cover the airway; patient assessment; medical, behavioral, and obstetrics/gynecology; trauma; infants and children; operations; and advanced airway management. An excellent reference resource for emergency medical technicians.

Just Study and you'll be fine without it.... 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This workbook is precisely what you think it is, a multiple choice review of the chapters in the book. I would imagine it would be very helpful for the students that do not read the book. I did not find it very helpful. I used it for about the first ten chapters and then realized it was a waste of time. Read the book and you will be fine without it.

the best book to pass the N.R.E.M.T exam 5 out of 5 stars.

Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good!!! It helps you think about every aspect of a concept. Example, path & Physio of what's going on with the patient. It brings important concepts in medicine in extremely valid cases which are written "like" the NBME questions. I would rec this book 100% worth every penny!!!

good for step 1 prep 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 14 people found this review helpful.

This is not bad as another book to have for Step1 Prep. Don't overwhelm yourself with too many books because there are ALOT of books out there. Just pick a handful becuase otherwise you will have conflicting information.

Too many mistakes, subpar to UCV 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book after I read all 8 UCV (Undeground Clinical Vignettes) from the same authors. I was able to compare them. Obviously it has fewer cases, most of them are identical. FA team rushed this book in production and as a result there are lots of mistakes and really inconvinient layout. My only recommendation is to buy a cheaper previous edition of UCV books (ISBN 0632045590).

Handy for Residency 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

This Handbook contains in synopsis form most of the information included in the basic ACLS course, including all of the main algorithms. Also, it includes the BLS algorithm and short sections in the back that include PALS and Neonatal Resuscitation info. Of note, the algorithms included for the ACLS and BLS are the newly revised AHA versions (the ones that went into effect on July 1, 2006), so you don't have to worry about wasting your money purchasing a book with out-of-date algothims and information. (Like the current edition of the ACLS provider's manual that's still on sale through Amazon.) The spiral-bound format of this book isn't quite as white coat pocket-friendly as the cards that come with the ACLS provider manual but, as I mentioned there's more information in this than is put on the cards and, at least as of when I'm writing this, they don't have up to date cards for sale yet.

Guidelines 2005 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I found this book hard to follow and nothing is tabbed for easy access in an emergent situation which is what it is supposed to do. If you prepare for ACLS by reading the book that is given with the class you will find that is all you need. If you want a refresher for ekg rhythm strips or a tabbed book look for davis notes for ecg.
