Excellent Ultrasound Primer 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is the ideal guide for emergency and ICU ultrasound. The reasons why I can highly recommend this book:
* Beautiful diagrams combined with actual ultrasound images
* Length is digestible by busy physicians, but includes all the crucial points on each modality
* Fantastic procedural section, which allows you to utilize ultrasound to increase the success rate and safety of your procedures the same day you read the chapter.
* Layout is easy to use and aesthetically pleasing.
* Includes up-to-date evidence for each technique.

This text is ideal for both beginners and intermediate ultrasound practitioners.

Editorial Review:

This is a practical and concise introduction to bedside emergency ultrasound. It covers the full spectrum of conditions diagnosed via this modality, both for guiding invasive procedures and for diagnosis in critical-care settings. It introduces the major applications for emergency ultrasound by using focused diagnostic questions and teaching the image acquisition skills needed to answer these questions. Images of positive and negative findings for each application (FAST, ECHO, etc.) are presented, as well as scanning tips for improved image quality. Each section contains a review of the literature supporting each application.

Good Stuff 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm on a local search and rescue team and wanted to enhance my practical experience with Nasar's SAR tech 2 official certification. The book I purchased is helping me to accomplish this goal. A great amount of it is common sense so is excellent for beginners, if not boring, but it also contains a lot of new material that I found to be both challenging and informative. It is an excellent source of information for an individual hiker or an entire team. I only wish the book had a question and answer pool for those of us studying for the SAR tech exam. Generally, the money I spent for the book was an excellent investment and I have no regrets.

Editorial Review:

Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR) is the only resource that covers Search and Rescue Technician (SARTECH) III & II requirements.

Providing an overview of all aspects of search and rescue procedures and equipment, FUNSAR teaches the absolutely essential techniques employed by nearly all search and rescue personnel. FUNSAR offers an in-depth and practical approach to search and rescue and is recommended for all emergency responders. Ideal for both paid and unpaid professionals, this resource combines dynamic features with the latest comprehensive content.

Well written, easy to understand, but... 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Greetings,

I'm 3 months into a paramedic program and we just happened to be talking about this book today (one of our texts) in class. Where this book is most helpful is regarding the instruction of hands on skills such as IV's and Intubation, as well as a good general reference book to find specific basic info fast. Our class has augmented this text with Applegates A+P, Lipencotts basic pharmocology, and will be using a yet to be decided patho text. If you used only this text I feel you'd be missing out on a great deal of background information, that for me, makes the concepts of paramedicine easier to grasp. I would also check with your instructor regarding the workbook, I don't know anyone who has bothered to use it. If anyone is looking for an overview on the scope of paramedicine, to brush up for an exam, this is probably a perfect book.

Editorial Review:

This text provides coverage of prehospital care, explaining the paramedic's role, the how-to's of patient assessment and emergency care, and the principles and practice of emergency cardiac care, emergency pharmacology, infectious diseases, pediatric and geriatric emergencies.

Why are you still in EMS? 2 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I picked this book up after Devin took a job in our area. The intro was very well written and I thought "hey this should be great."
But then the book turns into a string of what we would refer to as "bumper stories" - 2 minute tales told while sitting on the front bumper of the rescue truck waiting for the horn to blow. Many of the stories have the feel of "urban legend" having been passed around NJ for decades and morphing over time.

And we all know that "real guys" don't talk about emotion - they just complain about how bad things are, so there is nothing in here that I felt captured the motivation that keeps people in this business. Too many "that was a horrible shift" stories, but no great saves.

Yes, I can recall events like this. But if they were all that made up my day, I would have left years ago.

(I did get one smile from a simple line on page 26 - Don't cut a down jacket.
Because I've been there.)

Editorial Review:

You hear sirens wailing behind and pull to the side just as the ambulance breezes past you at a seemingly break-neck speed. You see through the rear windows, the EMT inside is laughing as he converses with the patient. Have you ever wondered what goes on inside? Here is your chance to climb inside and see what really happens beneath the sirens. EMS: The Job of Your Life takes you behind the wheel and into the heart of chaos as you read about the ups and downs of one of the most dangerous professions in the world.

how to prepare for the EMT paramedic exam 5 out of 5 stars.

the questions in this book are extremely helpful in studing. They are very close to the actual exam

I passed 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased a total of 3 books to assist me in preparing for the Illinois Paramedic Exam. The other two books were only ok. This book was the one I used extensively. The wording of the questions in the practice exams were "thought Provoking". It helped direct me to the areas where I needed to review and/or increase my knowledge. The only problem I saw with the book was that several questions were out of date. For example the CPR questions were based on old AHA guidelines. And a few questions referenced drugs that are no longer utilized in EMS for my area. Overall it was a great study guide and I would recommend it to future Paramedic Students.

Editorial Review:

This brand new test preparation manual readies men and women who are planning to obtain a paramedic license. The book presents three full-length model exams consisting of multiple-choice questions, and provides answer sheets and answer keys. Preceding the practice exams are detailed suggestions for test-taking success, plus chapters filled with practice questions and answers that cover the following topics: airway and breathing, cardiology, medical, obstetrics/gynecology /pediatrics, and operations.

very useful 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

fits nicely into your lab coat. very handy for those 1-2 second glances when you need to confirm some issues in the ICU. Of course this isn't a textbook which will tell you everything but a very helpful guide to be carrying along as a med student or junior resident rotating in the icu or internal medicine rotation. good bang for your buck

Read it Before your ICU Rotation 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

ICU rotation can always be intimidating for residents, especially the first one. Most of us start searching for a source to read as anxiety builds up. Everybody suggests Marino's "The ICU Book", which is OK, but needs time and it is not well balanced. This small book is a great source. You can quickly read it and refresh your knowledge before starting your rotation. During the rotation, you will be able to quickly review the topic and make sure you are not missing anything. I would highly recommend it.

A Life Saver...literally. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My internship we had open ICU's...so virtually every night I was stuck caring for critical patients in one of the ICUs. As a transitional resident, I had no interest in reading the Marino ICU book (which was in need of some updating). This book has everything you need to survive and help you manage even very sick patients while on call at night. I carried this book and the Ferri book in my labcoat as references in addition to some others on my PDA. This book is very concise, and will update you in just a few minutes on most issues you may face in the ICU/critical care medicine setting. Highly recommend for transitional residents, especially for those who would have no need to purchase larger more comprehensive references such as those going into medicine or anesthesiology. For those going into Ophthalmology, Radiology, etc.. this book is perfect.

Editorial Review:

This highly acclaimed manual includes new treatment strategies for all critical care problems, including cardiology, infectious diseases, and neurology.
