Well written 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is perhaps the best pocket-sized book one will find on the market. It has great illustrations and covers all areas of cardiology and common ECG strips. However, my instructor said he had mixed opinions about this book relating to how accurate some of the ECG strips are?

Editorial Review:

This portable reference offers convenient access to essential information on ECG interpretation. It puts state-of-the-art knowledge in an easy-to-access format at the users' fingertips.

  • Contains numerous tables, boxes, and illustrations.
  • Rewritten in a more conversational style, improving readability.
  • Updated throughout to reflect current changes to the 3rd Edition of ECGs Made Easy.

  • Includes new ECG Pearls.

FANTASTIC TEXT 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The pictures are what I found most intriguing about this text.
The anatomy & physiology topics were also critical in my studies. This book ranks high with:
(Human Antatony & physiology) by Elaine N. Marieh. This text gave a lot of information from another perspective.

(KEY FACTS FOR ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY) by Patrick Leonardi. This was right to the point. Less complex to read. Extremely helpful to study for exams.

Fun to Read 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

So often you have to drag yourself to the book when studying Anatomy. This one is so well written and illustrated; it is actually fun to read. Not too much detail to get lost, but certainly enough to cover all the main points. If you want to dig down into further detail on anything, I recommend "Atlas of Human Anatomy" by Frank H. Netter, MD.

Editorial Review:

Paramedic: Anatomy and Physiology utilizes a systemic approach, beginning by formulating a basic picture of the human body then moving into more anatomic detail. Individual chapters discuss body systems, both how they function individually and together as a unit. In addition to the overall picture of each system, this text presents both the gross anatomy and the microscopic anatomy of vital structures. Since the study of anatomy and physiology requires some basic chemistry knowledge, there is a basic chemistry review provided in the Appendix

very useful 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

fits nicely into your lab coat. very handy for those 1-2 second glances when you need to confirm some issues in the ICU. Of course this isn't a textbook which will tell you everything but a very helpful guide to be carrying along as a med student or junior resident rotating in the icu or internal medicine rotation. good bang for your buck

Read it Before your ICU Rotation 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

ICU rotation can always be intimidating for residents, especially the first one. Most of us start searching for a source to read as anxiety builds up. Everybody suggests Marino's "The ICU Book", which is OK, but needs time and it is not well balanced. This small book is a great source. You can quickly read it and refresh your knowledge before starting your rotation. During the rotation, you will be able to quickly review the topic and make sure you are not missing anything. I would highly recommend it.

A Life Saver...literally. 5 out of 5 stars.

My internship we had open ICU's...so virtually every night I was stuck caring for critical patients in one of the ICUs. As a transitional resident, I had no interest in reading the Marino ICU book (which was in need of some updating). This book has everything you need to survive and help you manage even very sick patients while on call at night. I carried this book and the Ferri book in my labcoat as references in addition to some others on my PDA. This book is very concise, and will update you in just a few minutes on most issues you may face in the ICU/critical care medicine setting. Highly recommend for transitional residents, especially for those who would have no need to purchase larger more comprehensive references such as those going into medicine or anesthesiology. For those going into Ophthalmology, Radiology, etc.. this book is perfect.

Editorial Review:

This highly acclaimed manual includes new treatment strategies for all critical care problems, including cardiology, infectious diseases, and neurology.

Gets no better than this 5 out of 5 stars.
23 of 25 people found this review helpful.

It doesn't matter where you are, or what the situation is, if you, a team member, family member or friend is injured, you do what you have to do to save their life or treat the condition! Period! As survivalists we know that we may not always have access to a sanitary emergency room and a half-asleep doctor in the middle of the night. If that time comes, this is the book to have! This book teaches advanced field procedures for small wound repair, pain control, care of infected wounds, IV therapy, amputations, treatment of burns, airway procedures and much much more.

This book is writen in straightforward language for those who don't know an artery from a anuerism, and step-by-step proceedures are discussed in great detail. Pictures of suturing, debriding wounds and many other items show you what a thousand words cannot describe. So many techniques and how-to's are discussed that there is not room here to elaborate on all of them. Let's just say this book is pretty complete. Pair it with a few other reference manuals and you greatly increase your chances of saving a loved one's life in a disaster situation!

The Down Side: None, well thought out with lots of diagrams and procedure pictures

Would WE Buy It?: Oh Yes! Our Alpha team medic has already made this book part of his personal library and is recommending it to others for their reference library. I consider this to be a companion to the US Army's Special Forces Medical handbook.

Technical Specs: Book size is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, softcover, w/photos and illustrations., 224 pages. ISBN 0873647173

Editorial Review:

In Promoting Health in Multicultural Populations, professors Robert M. Huff and Michael V. Kline have put together an indispensable resource that offers not only a wealth of information and examples about specific cultural groups in North America but also assessment and implementation guidelines for promoting health in any cultural community. The first part of this handbook explores the context of culture, cross-cultural concepts of health and disease, conceptual approaches to multicultural health promotion, and suggestions for planning health promotion for multicultural populations. Subsequent parts discuss Hispanic/Latino, African American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian American, and Pacific Islander populations. Each of these parts comprises three chapters describing the characteristics of the population, providing guidelines for practice and offering a case study that demonstrates the points made previously in the section. The book concludes with an examination of the editors’ cultural assessment framework and a look at the future of multicultural health promotion and disease prevention.

Promoting Health in Multicultural Populations will prove to be an excellent shelf reference for health and human service providers and scholars, and an invaluable text for students in a wide variety of professional disciplines, including public health and other arenas of health care, social work, medical sociology and anthropology.

Let's first say that this book is not for the faint of heart. But if you're a medical professional and efeects of trauma and injuries on the human body intrest you , this is an excellent book. Full color graphic pictures of numerous typrs of injuries caused by trauma and various other causes showcase just how frail the human body can be. Seeing injuries in the book prepare you to better recognize them faster in the field and prepare you for the shock of seeing them for the first time in the field. Treating injuries in the field can better be accomplished through fast recognition of a patients treatment needs if you've have never dealt with a type of trauma/injury before and having seen it in the book can help you familiarize yourself beforehand. 4 Stars!
