You must have this book!! 5 out of 5 stars.
21 of 22 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Brose's "Guide to EKG Interpretation" is a resource that all physicians in training should seriously consider acquiring. It is an extremely thorough book, and its size is deceptive. You wouldn't think a small pocket-size book could pack this much information! As an illustration, I had a question on my Part II board exam about a "J wave", something I had never heard of, even after my EKG rotation and delivering a few EKG lectures. As it turns out, Dr. Brose's book addresses the J wave, while many other resources make no mention of it. Also, the material is presented in a way that is clear and very easy to follow. Full of cross-references, you can quickly gain a solid understanding of virtually any issue you'll encounter when interpreting an EKG. I believe that medical students, interns, residents, and attending physicians alike will benefit from owning this book. Certainly, it is something that medical students and interns should have in their pockets (it is not cumbersome...it's a perfect size).

Editorial Review:

Presents a step-by-step approach to electrocardiographic problem solving. Handbook leads the reader to a diagnosis based upon the EKG morphology. Designed to fit inside a lab coat pocket. Uses computer-generated EKG graphs to illustrate the important points of diagnosis. Landscape format. Softcover. DNLM: Electrocardiography--Handbooks.

Superb pocket reference 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Excellent content and organisation with high quality pictures. Useful size to carry to work and will no doubt make an A&E term or beginning of radiology training much easier. I particularly liked the summary at the end of each chapter for take-home points.
Obviously not the most in-depth reference but at this size and price it is an excellent supplement to a larger text. Not too sure how I survived a year of A&E without it...!

Editorial Review:

Perfect for the non-specialist, this pocket guide focuses on common injuries and those abnormalities that are frequently overlooked or misinterpreted in the emergency department…and gives key indicators when a radiologist should be consulted. Using a concise and systematic approach, it explains how to examine and accurately interpret x-rays. Each chapter focuses on the basic radiographs required, important anatomy, normal variants, a system for inspecting suggested views, types of injury, and ends with a summary of key points. * Highlights common sources of error and diagnostic difficulty. * Emphasizes pitfalls and associated abnormalities. * Provides a summary of key points at the end of each chapter for a quick overview of the most important features. * Accompanies radiographs with line-drawings to explain difficult concepts.

Editorial Review:

This is the first neuropsychology book to translate exciting findings from the recent explosion of research on sport-related concussion to the broader context of mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) and post-concussive syndrome (PCS) in the general population. In addition, it includes a Continuing Education (CE) component administered by the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology.
Traumatic brain injuries constitute a major global public health problem, but until now, MTBIs, which constitute up to 90 percent of all treated TBIs, have been difficult to evaluate and manage clinically because of the absence of a viable model. Dr. McCrea's book thus provides a welcome evidence base for all clinicians - including psychologists, neuropsychologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, rehabilitation medicine physicians, physiatrists, and nurses - involved in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of MTBI, as well as attorneys involved in personal injury litigation and personal injury defense. Each section of the book ends with a helpful summary of the 'Top 10 Conclusions.' Instructions for earning AACN-administered CE credit are included.

This product was a great idea, but the one I received was all scratched up, so I doubt I will even use it.

too big 2 out of 5 stars.

I'm not sure why they say this is a "pocket" card. It's too big for a pocket and the ruler itself is too busy with useless info.

Good but... 3 out of 5 stars.

Research-based and comprehensive 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

There are many good airway management books. However, Manual of Emergency Airway Management is, without a doubt, one of the finest texts written on airway management. Of particular note is the extended discussion on the use of the bag valve mask. Many texts, including textbooks, gloss over the techniques of BMV as if it was too pedestrian. Walls has not.

Everything is well-researched and based not on opinion, but objectively supported by significant research with gobs of footnotes. The first chapter alone, discussing the decision to intubate, is worth the price of the book itself.

While geared mostly to emergency physicians, there is significant value for the pre-hospital provider. Walls has not done any favors for the pre-hospital community by designating a single, and rather brief, chapter on pre-hospital airway management. Despite this, well over half of the chapters pertain directly to improving airway management skills for providers of all levels, from first responder to ED physician.

While and excellent text overall, the paltry sections specific to the pre-hospital provider need improvement.

Editorial Review:

Prepared by the faculty of the National Emergency Airway Management Course, this manual is an expert, practical guide to emergency airway management in any adult or pediatric patient. It offers step-by-step instructions on techniques, drug administration, and prevention and management of complications and includes a complete section on difficult clinical scenarios. The book is packed with easy-to-follow algorithms and diagrams and helpful mnemonics. Each of the Third Edition's chapters includes improved full-color illustrations and updated evidence-based analyses of procedures. A new section geared to the prehospital setting presents current National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians guidelines, including alternative airway devices.
