Excellent reference manual for all nurses 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

I found this manual to be very useful in day to day clinical applications. The manual is clearly organized according to systems, methodology, signs and symptoms, assessments and plan of care from a medical-sugical patient, to a cardiology patient to the trauma patient. In the ever changing clinical setting and the large variety of etiologies, this manual can be a valuable tool.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

Looking for a great book for nursing school this on is it and quick and to the point

Very good book 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I didn't give it five stars cuz i used the book for a really short time and i borrowed it from jefferson's library (no, i wasn't a student there, i just had access to the library cuz i externed).
i used this to supplement my critical care course cuz my instructor didn't teach/didn't know how to teach. Also, i was working full time in school and didn't have time for the textbook. This book had all the important points. i looked through it during lectures and it had everything the instructor lectured on and more. I compared it to mosby's and i think this is better than mosby. if you don't have money to buy the textbook and can get your hand on this book, i say get it. It's easy to read, well laid out and an awesome resource. i found it very helpful for that 8week intense course.

i know swearingen author's that medsurg manual, i didn't know she did the one for critical care till i came across this book at the library. IMHO, if you want to get a little manual for critical care, get this.
The only think i didn't like about it is that i wish it was more compact like the mosbys, you really can't fit this into your pocket or labcoat. if you're looking for something that's very small in size, this isn't it. But if you're looking for something good on content that will help you pass the class, then this is it.

Good Book but Paperback is not Good 1 out of 5 stars.

I can't believe they made a huge thick expensive book that is only made by Paperback. They should create a Hard Cover because I always carry and drop my Emergency Care during training and Emergency that can ruin the book easily. In regards to the CD, the CD has lack of information. I am expecting that the CD composed of all chapters that is detailed so that students can learn in reading and listening from the CD.

The book has a lot of useful information. However, the CD has lack of informations and the durability of this book is weak.

Excellent, excellent book 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I'm currently enrolled in an 18-week First Aid: Responding to Emergencies course at my college and this is the textbook we're using. This thing is packed full of information! Everything from how to care for victims of various injuries and illnesses to life threatening conditions. Lots of articles in it-- I'm learning stuff I never gave second thoughts to before. It's very readable and it presents the information in a well-organized way. Lots of photos to show how different procedures are done (although nothing replaces firsthand practice). The end-of-chapter study guides are also extremely helpful. If you take a Red Cross First Aid/CPR course, keep this book after you finish the class-- it's great to refer back to.

A Single Source for Citizen-Responder First Aid! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This ISBN is for the latest THIRD EDITION of the American Red Cross manual, First Aid: Responding to Emergencies. This is the Third Edition, with a 2001 copywright, is Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) 2000-compliant for CPR and Airway Management techniques. BE CAREFUL! OLDER EDITIONS ARE NO LONGER USED IN RED CROSS COURSES AND THEY DON'T MEET THE NEWER STANDARDS.

This is the standard First Aid text used in many college, high school, and para-professional/workplace courses taught by the American Red Cross. It is designed in modular format and combines and expands upon several courses you may also take seperately:
- Citizen-Responder First Aid
- Adult/Child/Infant CPR
- Preventing Disease Transmission/Bloodborne Pathogens Training
- First Aid, When Help is Delayed (the rules change when help is more than 30 minutes away from the scene)
- First Aid to People With Special Needs
- Emergency Childbirth (Lay Responder)

Not only is this a great textbook, but compared to many other current Red Cross manuals, this one makes a great desk (or in-vehicle) reference, and has many articles and facts that are not taught in the classes.

If you haven't taken a First Aid course lately, the CPR techniques have changed and the skill sheets in this book present these new methods at a glance.

Good Samaritan Laws vary by state, but they all require a prudent Citizen-Responder to act within the level of his or her training and the immunity from civil lawsuit that the knowledge in this book can convey to you is worth its price many times over (not to mention your ability to make a positive difference at the scene of an accident or a disaster).

EASILY the best ER handbook 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Arranged by chief complaint, with instant access to the most pertinent information on workup and treatment.

There really is no comparable book in existence. I saw a recent review comparing it to 'Pocket Medicine'? There's no comparison. If you have a patient with chest pain, this book puts all the possible diagnoses in one section with the labs/imaging/physical exam tips that you need to decide which one is most likely...followed by the treatment. With 'Pocket Medicine' you'd have to jump from ACS, to PE, to esophageal spasm, to AAA, to tamponade, and on and on. You better not forget any possible causes because it's not arranged by complaint but by body system (like all internal medicine guides)

I had to write a review because I don't want medical students, interns, or residents thinking the 'Pocket Medicine' will help you in the ER.

'Pocket Medicine' is for internists or your internal medicine rotations.

'Pocket Emergency Medicine' is the ONLY handbook to carry in the ER.

Editorial Review:

Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. Pocket-sized text lists a variety of conditions by presentation as would be encountered in an emergency situation. Each presentation provides the thought processes for treating each condition efficiently. Six-ring binder with looseleaf pages. DNLM: Emergencies--Handbooks.

As Good As it Gets 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Comprehensive and in depth coverage of Basic EMT instruction. I am instructed at a public safety training facility in New York and these texts are the core of our curricula. The "You are the provider" and EMT-B Tips insets and bold print volcabulary in each chapter tie you to real life scenario vinettes; a great tool to help take the covered material in each section of text "to the street".

Emergency care book 5 out of 5 stars.

This was a required book for me. Its a great book for EMTB students. Has great pictures, its easy to learn from.

Great if they send it. 4 out of 5 stars.

Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured is a great text. The picture on this Amazon ad was of the text I wanted and the reviews were too. The trouble is that I was sent the workbook instead of the text I thought I ordered. Looking more closely at the ad, I see that way down the page it is described as "workbook edition". This ad is very misleading!

Incorporates a newly added section on how first-aiders can protect themselves from injury and infection in the course of providing care. Features an entirely new section on dental emergencies, providing a thorough understanding of how to treat common dental problems and the importance of providing immediate care. Provides a concise description of body systems, including a succinct summary of what constitutes an emergency involving each system and how to assess; includes comprehensive information on personal protection from the risks posed by blood and air-borne diseases and what to do at an accident scene. For those who perform first aid, emergency care, and/or CPR.

Well, I have to say errors. I dont know who fact checked this book but I hope it wasn't a doctor. How many errors can one book have? I am only half way through and I have found at least 10. These are not small spelling or grammer errors. They are errors that could get someone killed. How about coagulation factors all being increased in DIC? or TIBC being decreased in iron def. anemia? The book should be returned to the publisher. My words of advice, read something else if you want to learn something correctly.
