Editorial Review:

The old Quaker adage, "Let your life speak," spoke to author Parker J. Palmer when he was in his early 30s. It summoned him to a higher purpose, so he decided that henceforth he would live a nobler life. "I lined up the most elevated ideals I could find and set out to achieve them," he writes. "The results were rarely admirable, often laughable, and sometimes grotesque.... I had simply found a 'noble' way of living a life that was not my own, a life spent imitating heroes instead of listening to my heart."

Thirty years later, Palmer now understands that learning to let his life speak means "living the life that wants to live in me." It involves creating the kind of quiet, trusting conditions that allow a soul to speak its truth. It also means tuning out the noisy preconceived ideas about what a vocation should and shouldn't be so that we can better hear the call of our wild souls. There are no how-to formulas in this extremely unpretentious and well-written book, just fireside wisdom from an elder who is willing to share his mistakes and stories as he learned to live a life worth speaking about. --Gail Hudson

This is a very interesting Bible study by Beth Moore. The homework is different from any of her other studies. You will learn to personalize the psalms of ascent. The lectures are outstanding on the Jewish feasts and their application to our lives.

Beth Moore has done it again 5 out of 5 stars.

Stepping up is a wonderful study of God's word spoken through the Psalms of Ascent. Beth Moore has a way of speaking life into the written word and with her love for God she is able to speak things into the word that we may not have seen. It has touched my life in so many ways and I hope that Amazon will carry more of her studies. She truly has a God given gift. Praise God!

Editorial Review:

Takes a look at the pilgrimage theme found in Psalms 120 134 and explores the major feasts of Israel. For the ancient Israelites, pilgrimage was a three-times-per-year journey to the temple in Jerusalem; for New Testament believers all of life becomes a journey together toward the new Jerusalem. Contains homework for six sessions. Leader Kit, Leader Guide, and Audio CDs available separately. (7 sessions)

Wonderful read 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a wonderful book with many great reminders about why we don't need to worry or have anxiety. Great bible references that share the message if we trust God and have faith that we don't need to worry.

Just starting, but happy so far... 4 out of 5 stars.

The bible study group I co-lead is very pleased with the book so far. We are just getting started, and we immediately appreciated the easy-reading style of the chapters. Our group consists primarily of mothers of YOUNG (under age 7) children, and anxiety is a big part of our day and our spirituality at this point in our lives (who has TIME for anything other than filling sippy cups and changing diapers??). This book addresses pertinent issues for us, and we utilize the helpful leader guide/discussion questions available at the back of the book (helps make being the leader less stressful/time consuming).

Editorial Review:

Although many Christian women say they trust God, their lives are filled with worry and anxiety-about their children, their finances, their relationships, their jobs. They know their lives should be characterized by faith in God, but they're unsure of how to get that kind of faith. This book and twelve-week study helps women grow in contentment as they address the barriers to contentment and how to overcome them. Companion Journal available.

Great stories, real applications 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Wow this has been great for my 6 and 4 year olds. This is much different from the usual Bible stories for kids that teach events, but this teaches character. The stories and themes build on one another and the book includes recommendations on how to review previous verses. My kids have learned many verses without trying too hard. They engage in the stories and actually pray for Missy and Bill, the kids that illustrate the principles. If you want to empower your children to be like Jesus then this is the book for you.

Editorial Review:

Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. --Psalm 119:11

Knowing the Bible can help you know God better. Here is a colorful, story-filled way for even the youngest child to take God's Word to heart--and learn the alphabet too!

Presented in an easy-to-use story format that applies individual Bible verses to real-life situations, this illustrated book for 3- to 7-year-olds is perfect for reading to your children or grandchildren, and great for use in churches, Christian schools, Bible clubs, or home schools. It can also be easily adapted for family devotions with young children.

The ABCs are building blocks to your child's formal education. And these verses are the building blocks of the soul--the building blocks that can lead to eternal life.

I had to buy this book for my religion class at school, so on academic level its a good book that serves its purpose, but I wouldn't have bought it on my own....so its a great book if your into religions or taking a class, but I otherwise wouldn't have bought it because its not my passion per se.

Meat and potatoes 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This book is a clear, simple, relatively uncontroversial exposition of basic Biblical theology. It is quite well-written, with extensive references to other influential Christian books (i.e. from C.S. Lewis, John Calvin, Nicholas Wolterstorff, etc.). The author has a pleasant style, combining intellectual rigor with clarity of exposition as well as deep conviction. It was nice to review what I already knew as well as remember some things that I had forgotten. It also nicely shows, in my opinion, how well the Christian faith stands up without an insistence on hyper-literalism in reading the Bible. The basics of the Christian worldview (Creation, Fall, Redemption) all survive intact even if the book of Ruth is a pastoral novella and the Flood didn't really happen. All in all a very good book, a precious resource for Christian college students.

not bad 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Actually the book was better than 'not bad,' and not only that it was an easy read, knocked it out in 2 days with plenty of time to spare. If you are looking for an easy read it is a 5, if you want something that knock your socks off, well I give it a 3. It was nice easy reading to end the year out with. If there was one negative thing about this book, it was Plantinga's devout following of John Calvin. Not that I think Calvin is bad, but I think Calvin was mentioned and quoted as much as the Bible...

Editorial Review:

Your Life in Christ: Foundations of Catholic Morality focuses on the essential message of Christ's moral teaching, the importance of love of God and love of neighbor and presents it in a way that is clear and applicable to the lives of today's teens.

This text accomplishes a formidable task-to teach Catholic morality in a contemporary culture where religious indifference is at an all-time high, where human rights are violated in many places, and where there is a rise of "ethical relativism" which divides any fixed moral reference point to guide political and social life.

- covers the major points of the "Life in Christ" section of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
- for many schools this will be the companion text to "Catholic Social Teaching".
