This is a great tool to have with the DVD. The study guide gives practical idea on how to start a small bible study group. It also has a clear guideline on how to take advantage of the DVD, it also includes a personal assessment and practical advise for your personal spiritual walk and provides good suggestions on how to lead others on the similar spiritual path.

Purpose Driven Live DVD Study Guide 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Purpose Driven Life Video Study Guide is a very good addition to the Study, 40 Days of Purpose, which our Church is doing right now. I was dissappointed that this product (seller's fault, not the author or publisher of the product) did not come with the DVD. I simply did not read the fine print to realize I was not receiving the DVD with the guide. That fact aside, I am glad to have this guide to follow, as opposed to the condensed version the church is passing out for small groups to follow in their weekly meetings for study. This guide provides many thought provoking questions and insight into Rick's sessions from the DVD.

Editorial Review:

The Purpose Driven Life DVD Study Guide is a six-week, video-based small group study of The Purpose Driven Life® by Rick Warren—the book Publishers Weekly decalred the "bestselling nonfiction hardback in history."

Good foundational book 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Christian education encompasses more than traditional teaching based on historical practices, sociological and psychological theories. It incorporates Biblical and theological truths with educational philosophical ideals. The foundation for such education is based on the fact that all people are created in the image of God, but due to the Fall have been separated from the Creator God, and that everyone in faith can be reconciled to God through the redeeming power of Christ's death on the cross (70). The main goal of the Christian education is "passing on the commandments of God to the next generation" (20). The task is to incorporate students into the Christian community by loving others, building and sharing one's faith, worshipping God, and actively participating in ministry (45). In compiling a thorough book, Pazmino examines the contributions of educational, sociological, and psychological theorists. Utilizing the insights of people such as Cremin, Pazmino suggests that Christian educators should "carefully assess" the effects of secular educational institutions on their students, and to offer ways for people to share their knowledge with others (149). Christian education should incorporate ideals such as liberty, equality, and fraternity by reframing it in Christian terms. For instance, Pazmino redefines liberty as "the freedom made available in Jesus Christ," and fraternity as "the common humanity of all persons and the unique relationships that exist in Christian community" (151). Pazmino reminds readers that the acquisition of knowledge occurs through all modes-communities, institutions, and groups (175). However, ultimate knowledge is "transcended by being known by God and encountering God's love" (177). Though the book contains good information regarding education, too much emphasis is given to the various theories. Pazmino dedicates a couple pages to discuss an "interactive Christian model," but it would be better if he dedicated a whole chapter to this topic. The main educational topic of the book is true to its title-"foundational issues."

Editorial Review:

For almost twenty years, Foundational Issues in Christian Education has been a key text for many Christian education courses. Its perceptive analysis coupled with clear writing make it a resource without peer. In the book, Christian education expert Robert Pazmiño guides readers through a comprehensive discussion of the interdisciplinary foundations of Christian education, calling all Christian educators to reevaluate the fundamentals of their discipline. "A careful exploration of foundations," writes Pazmiño, "is essential before specifying principles and guidelines for practice." This updated edition includes interaction with professional developments over the past ten years and appendixes that assess the impact of postmodernism as an educational philosophy. In addition, each chapter includes "points to ponder" for personal reflection or classroom use.

A Captivating Read for Mentors 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

In Big Questions Worthy Dreams, Sharon Parks affirms the purpose, promise and possibility of mentoring for mentor and mentee. She recognizes the critical role of "meaning making" in the mentoring journey. The reader is at once (and always) aware of the awesome responsibility of the mentor in supporting "meaning making"at each stage of the mentee's developmental journey. Parks solidly anchors mentoring in the rich dynamic of developmental theory. At the same time, she challenges the reader to heightened levels of accountability. The examples she offers, documented from her own experience, and those of others, inspire the reader to create stimulating mentoring environments that foster growth and development. This thoughtful and well-crafted book hooks the reader from the very start raising big questions and worthy dreams for mentor and mentee alike. A mentoring must-read!

Editorial Review:

The "twenty-something" years of young adulthood are increasingly recognized as critical but puzzling. Building on the foundation she established in her classic work, The Critical Years, Sharon Parks urges thoughtful adults to assume responsibility for providing strategic mentorship during this important decade in life. She reveals also, however, the ways young adults are influenced not only by individual mentors but also by mentoring environments.

The best interlinear bible, but only as a desktop reference 3 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

With great expectations I preordered this bible two months ago, and it finally arrived last week. This bible has all the great features as advertized, but unfortunately I found it too bulky to be carried around. The fonts are also too small to read comfortably.

I hope Zondervan would consider publishing a revised version by: 1) Reducing the width of the book, use NASB only, forget about the paraphrased NIV, and 2) Increasing the size of the Greek font. If necessary, they might also consider: 3) Removing the G/K number row and the dictionary at the back, and 4) Removing the parsing info row as well. [...]
The objective is to reduce the size and to improve the portability of this excellent work. A size and weight such as the NASB Study Bible is marginally acceptable. Anything bulkier will reduce this bible to a desktop reference. With excellent bible software such as Bibleworks, Pradis, etc., I personally find little use for a desktop reference bible.

I'm giving this bible a low rating for its poor readability and portability. However, if you're looking for a Greek interlinear bible, this one might be the best one among those on the market today. Since Amazon has good return policy, you might want to order a copy and decide for yourself.

Editorial Review:

This all-new interlinear is based on the latest UBS Greek New Testament and uses modern computer technology for a user-friendly book. It also includes the complete KJV and NASB New Testament text.

Practical insights about getting leadervalues down on paper. 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Malphurs is the best writer of practical planning and the development of a church's strategy that I have seen to date. He takes the mission, vision, values of various organizations and shows how they are of immense importance for preventing conflict and setting goals. I use this book when I consult with pastors and elders around the world. He takes advantage of the information in both business and religion to help leaders think about their goals and thenfollow through on them.

Human strategies based on human visions and business ideas... 1 out of 5 stars.

This sounds like Satan's recipe for making ineffective pastors. John MacArthur, of The Master's Seminary has written much about the liberalization of seminaries. Here is another book endorsing exactly what seminaries should not be doing, dreaming up visions and strategies and business plans instead of trusting God's word and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Check out MacArthur's "Anatomy of a Church."

Editorial Review:

Malphurs examines the four things that drive effective ministry—values, mission, vision, and strategy—and demonstrates how to implement them. (20050201)

Editorial Review:

This lavishly illustrated guide to iconography explains through words and pictures the history, meaning, and purpose of Christian icons as well as the traditional methods that religious painters use to create these luminous, spiritually enlivened works of art.

Solrunn Nes, one of Europe's most admired iconographers, illuminates the world of Christian icons, explaining the motifs, gestures, and colors common to these profound symbols of faith. Nes explores in depth a number of famous icons, including those of the Greater Feasts, the Mother of God, and a number of the better-known saints, enriching her discussion with references to Scripture, early Christian writings, and liturgy. She also leads readers through the process and techniques of icon painting, showing each step with photographs, and includes more than fifty of her own original works of art.

Deeply inspiring and utterly unique, "The Mystical Language of Icons" will inform both those who are familiar with the rich tradition of religious art and those who are not. It also serves as a powerful devotional resource in its own right, one that Christians everywhere can turn to again and again.

Amazing Man, Amazing Book 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 23 people found this review helpful.

I am a student at the college where Dr. Rasmussen teaches; I can profess with great confidence that he has extensive first hand knowledge of the Bible and the Holy Land. This knowledge shines through gloriously in this book; the information is presented thoroughly and networked within the pages of the only NIV Atlas of the Bible you will ever need!

Masterpiece 5 out of 5 stars.

This atlas pays accute attention to detail and history. It is THE BEST Bibllical Atlas I have ever used. Carl Rasmussen has definitely set the standard.

Disappointing. 2 out of 5 stars.
7 of 13 people found this review helpful.

I deplore shoddy workmanship on some of the maps. One good example is page 25: I can't readily see the difference among the same color family. Considering I'm a color expert, this is a big drawback. Soft yet vivid water-color technique may help improve the quality. Well, the problem may be with the printer rather than with the author.

The layout of the book in general, i.e., text and graphics, lacks good aesthetic quality. Better fonts and generous margins would help improve it by a great measure.

All in all, the book doesn't live up to its price. By the way, I must add that I have not read the text closely yet and am not disputing the scholarship of the author.

Editorial Review:

The Zondervan NIV Atlas of the Bible has become the new standard by which all other atlases are measured. More than 200 full-color photographs, illustrations, charts and maps along with a glossary, scripture index, and gazetteer make this atlas ideal.
