Terrific 5 out of 5 stars.

It was as fantastic as the first book. Can't wait to get book # 3!

Continuation of a spellbinding story 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

In this second book Terri Blackstock continues her story of a world thrown into chaos by way of a "starpluse" which has rendered the use of all modern technology useless. Terri Blackstock explores how our world might "look" if this were to happen, how some grow in their faith, love, and selflessness while others grow in their selfishness, sin, and evil. A griping story of orphaned children in a world devoid of "services" to deal with such an occurance and a family willing to sacrifice everything to help these children, their community, and to serve God in any way he asks.

Truly Sacrificing to Help Others 4 out of 5 stars.

Three months into the world wide technology outage, the Branning family and their neighbors are beginning to get the hang of surviving. They are bartering for what they need and digging a neighborhood well.

But then they are robbed. Jeff chases after the thieves and discovers they are four children, siblings, who have been living alone for months. Against their better judgment, the Brannings feel compelled to care for these kids. Where is their mother? And will the Brannings be able to feed these extra mouths?

If I were viewing this series as a mystery series, I'd be highly disappointed. While there are some mysteries surrounding the kids, they develop in fits and starts. And the climax of that story is pretty weak. Instead, this is a novel about survival and what humans will do when faced with the end of our civilization. As a result, it is fascinating and page turning. I had a hard time putting the book down. The characters are real, and I found myself asking if I would have the faith and compassion to respond as they did multiple times over the course of the novel.

This book relies heavily on the events of the first in the series. There is a recap and character guide in the first few pages, so you could jump in here if you needed to. But I'd advise you to read them in order. And there are some great develops as far as the overall story goes in this book that made me look forward to the third.

This is another challenging and captivating novel from a great writer. If you want a great read, consider this series.

Editorial Review:

As the power outage continues, the Brannings struggle to bring their neighborhood together into a functioning community where everyone helps each other make their homes ready for winter, and fight the crime that is running rampant among them. Book Two in the Restoration series.

A HOMEY, SMALL TOWN STORY 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Cape Light is the kind of place where you'd like to spend some time getting to know its inhabitants and enjoy the scenery. It's a town where people hold secrets and pain in their hearts as well as their secret longings. But it's also about people trying to get through the everyday struggles of living and working together. Of course there are those who rub you wrong, as the case is with Charlie, who is not only running against Emily for Mayor, but is doing so in an underhanded manner. And then there is her mother, Lilian, who is against Emily's sister Jessica, who plans to marry Ben. Lillian thinks that Ben isn't good enough for her daughter. They are characters you might judge at first glance, but come to realize the pain and guilt that compels them to act as they do. Much like real people react to mistakes they've made. This story holds secrets to the way we can respond in a possitive or negative way to our wrong choices and how they affect others. This is a good read!

Editorial Review:

Caught up in the responsibilities of her job and the incessant demands of her elderly mother, mayor Emily Warwick doesn't allow herself to dream. Then there's her younger sister Jessica, who's about to walk down the aisle with a man their mother despises. It doesn't help that Emily's still mourning the husband she lost and wondering what happened to the baby she gave up for adoption twenty years ago. Sometimes she thinks it would take a miracle to fill the hole in her heart.

But miracles do happen in Cape Light. You just have to close your eyes--and believe in your dreams.

amazing 4th book!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Faith of my Fathers is the 4th book in Lynn Austin's Chronicles of the Kings series. After King Hezekiah's death, his son Mannasseh becomes king at age 12. Fear grips Mannasseh's heart as he begins to question God as to why his father died when he faithfully served God. Years later, as he goes to visit his mother's grave in the cemetry he comes upon a man who calls himself a "priest" and begins to accuse everything Mannasseh has grown up with and had been taught. The accussations make Mannessah call upon the prophet Isaiah and his palace adminstrator Eliakim--Mannessah's boyhood friend Joshua's father. During their conforntation King Mannessah accuses Eliakim and Isaiah of conspiring aganist him, using Isaiah's own prophecies aganist him. Eventually Eliakim and Isaiah are executed leaving Eliakim's family in great danger. Joshua and Mannasseh, once best friends have become bitter rivals. Joshua must now find a way to flee Mannasseh's terror while keeping his family safe.

I found this book to be the best out of the first four. And since they keep getting better and better I am guessing the fifth and last book to be more amazing! Lynn Austin does a wonderful job depciting the terror of Mannaseh's reign. He is simply insecure and believes everyone is plotting aganist him. Instead of turning to Yahweh he starts turning to the stars, mediums, etc. for answers. He even begins promoting orgies for worship and sets up Asherah poles and places for women to "offer" themselves to the idol goddess. I have never shed a tear in the first 3 books of this series but the beginning of the book when Eliakim and Isaiah were being falsely accussed and then executed drew a tear from me. It's amazing to see how even when confined to the darkness of a prison and facing death the next morning, these two men trusted God to the very end. I also found it exciting to read about Joshua's plans and such for smuggling himself and his family out of the country. Especially near the end he decides to smuggle the ark of the covenant and Mannasseh's brother--Prince Amariah to Eqypt.

With a host of new characters and some old ones as well this is definatly worth the read. I'm looking forward to reading "Among the Gods" and hope Lynn Austin decides to write more biblical fiction in the future. :-)

Editorial Review:

(Chronicles of the King Book 4) King Manasseh and his friend Joshua were nurtured together in the faith of their godly fathers. But anger toward God smolders in Manasseh’s heart after his father’s unexpected death, and his insecurity makes him easy prey for the false claims of sorcery and divination. When Joshua stands up for the truth, the battle lines are drawn, and Joshua must flee his life of privilege. Unable to understand why his boyhood friend has turned against him, and why he must stand alone in the face of such opposition, Joshua comes perilously close to losing his faith. Can Joshua rescue the faithful remnant from Manasseh’s persecution? Has it all gone too far...or will he rediscover his father's God? Faith of My Fathers is a riveting story of intrigue, deception, danger, and suspense.

This book was very good. It can make you cry. I also read the sequal It was good too.

Editorial Review:

In this mass market edition, #1 bestselling author Karen Kingsbury weaves a powerful story of a young couple whose love must face the ultimate challenge.

Cody Gunner has no use for real love. Abandoned as a child by the person he needed the most, he swears he will never allow himself to love again. Ali Daniels denies love as well. Carrying a terrible secret, she lives life to the fullest, taking risks and refusing relationships. When Cody and Ali meet, their first instincts are to hide behind their emotional walls, seemingly doomed to repeat the patterns they have established for most of their lives. But their attraction is too strong, and soon they're doomed in another way, for neither can avoid falling in love, regardless of the consequences. Only after three years--a thousand tomorrows later--do they realize at what cost their relationship comes. In the end, they must decide if love is worth the ultimate price.

Marty's Wardrobe 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It had been a while since I read a book, so I decided to try reading Love's Abiding Joy since I had already read the first three books in the series. Well, I'm on chapter eight, and may decide to go ahead and finish it, but it's not been as good as I hoped. It begins with the author assuring the reader that Marty still feels as young at fourty-two as she did at thirty -- and Clark is still cute with grey hair. Trust Hollywood and a shallow American mind to make us concerned that the people we read about be young and good looking. It would seem to me that people back then would age sooner due to hard lives; but if they are interesting characters, who cares? Most of what I've read so far has to do with the outward. Marty's dresses. Marty's hat. What Marty eats. Marty staying neat and tidy . . . Not that I am uninterested in the way people lived in that time period, but in a Christian book -- or even a good secular book -- I do not find a character who is mostly concerned with outward things to be very inspiring.

Editorial Review:

Book 4 of Love Comes Softly. Reuniting with their daughter’s family, grandparents Clark and Marty’s hope and faith are tested by a tragedy. Another Janette Oke bestseller!

Good Story 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The story line in all of the Cape Light Series are sweet, but predictable. Which is okay; sometimes, sweet is nice.
The basic problem with these books is the editing. There are numerous typos. There is also an instance of the wrong name being inserted. It is very unprofessional as well as distracting. Contacting the editor did not even elicit a response.

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm very pleased with the condition of Cape Light - A New Leaf. I find this an excellent way to purchase books at a very reasonable price. I was skeptical at first, but each of the books I've purchased have been in excellent condition.

forgettable 2 out of 5 stars.

This is the 4th book in the series about the town of Cape Light (geddit? Cape Light?), so I was missing some things about what had happened in previous books.

This one--I haven't read the others, nor will I, so I don't know if they have similar themes--is About Second Chances.

Two main story threads--a bitter divorced mom and the new doctor in town (who's moved, by the way, to give his daughter a second chance--she has a "horrible" stuttering problem which seems to be nonexistent except in his mind), and a long-lost black-sheep brother who comes home. And there was a man who dies and his widow wants to keep their orchard.

The stories were uninspired, the characters cardboard cut-outs, and the resolutions of the problems too easy and sugar-sweet--all it takes is a little chat with saintly Reverend Ben. *gag*

Editorial Review:

Two unexpected newcomers to Cape Light will teach its residents to put the past behind them and surrender to the power of forgiveness--and love.

Book Two In Chronicals of the Kings Series! 4 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Ms. Austin's second book in her Chronicles of the Kings series is just as good as her previous title. This story pick up where "God and Kings" leaves off and again brings tales of the Old Testament to life once again.

King Hezekiah wants to rule under God's law. His path won't be easy and he will have choices that he will have to make that will not be popular or easy. Once such choice will be to rebel against the Assyrian leaders to the North of his country. Once this decision is made tasks are taken to protect the city and the water supply. The closer his enemy comes to the city the more Hezekiah's advisors suggest that he make peace with the Assyrian's. This is not an option to the strong leader who has made a decision and will stand by it...no matter what. There is a second part to this story and it's about his choice of wife. Will he stay true to his wife Hephzibah or will he look for another to stand by his side?

Hephzibah is strong and loves her husband King Hezekiah. She is heart broken when he turns to his concubines for company and support. Than miracle of miracles he turns to her. Together they fight the enemy and become a united front. King Hezekiah finds support where he least expected to find it. Will his love for Hephzibah also bring him a small amount of peace?

Again this was a very good and descriptive read. Ms. Austin has brought this time period to life and fans of historic fiction will have their appetite sated for sure. For those that are not familiar with the bibles teachings this will be a good read for them. Ms. Austin has again brought the Old Testament to life in a way that will transport the reader back to this very turbulent time. I highly recommend Ms. Austin and her Chronicles of the Kings series.

Editorial Review:

Chronicles of the King Book 2 When King Hezekiah discovers that God’s Law forbids him to take multiple wives, he must choose one woman to love. He must also choose to trust God’s promises when he decides to rebel against his powerful Assyrian overlords. Hezekiah seeks to strengthen his nation’s fortifications by building a tunnel in Jerusalem to hide his water supply. The tension mounts as the Assyrians march closer--and Hezekiah’s tunnel remains incomplete. With his officials advising him to submit to the Assyrians, Hezekiah’s faith is once more severely tested.

Biblical Fiction at Its Best 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Good biblical fiction remains faithful to both Scripture and its characters while bringing ancient accounts fully to life. Lynn Austin has done a fantastic job of creating a vivid, insightful, page-turning story that I stayed up all night to finish. Austin has very romantically yet realistically depicted noble Hezekiah, the prophets Isaiah and Micah, and numerous other biblical characters. The heroes (and villains) are fully fleshed-out. The story line never slows as it unravels a tale compiled from numerous biblical texts (with which the author shows herself thoroughly knowledgeable). The backdrop of history and geography exhibit serious historical research.

I'm a fan of biblical fiction, and I haven't found any better than this.

WARNING: Don't even pick up Gods & Kings unless you're willing to commit to the five book series. You'll be hooked until the last page of book five.

Editorial Review:

Gods and Kings is the story of King Hezekiah, heir to the throne of King David. When his evil father plots to sacrifice him, Hezekiah’s mother, Abijah, searches frantically for a way to save him. But only two men can help her, and neither of them seems trustworthy. In a time and place engulfed by violence, treachery, and infidelity to Yahweh, Abijah and her son must discover the one true Source of strength if they are to save themselves and their country. Book 1 of Chronicles of the Kings.

Love's Enduring Promise is Endearing 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What can I say, people reading the book expecting to see the same story as the movie will be disappointed. The plot and story that you find within the movie is a completely different story. The book and the movie only share the title and the characters and that is it. Missie doesn't have to choose between Willie and some rich guy, Willie has no little brother and plays a very minor role in the overall book.

The book covers 13 years, and it is a rather short book to cover that length of time. The book picks up 3 years after the first book. Missie is five years old and the book ends with her wedding day.

There is no central plot, but a combination of plots woven together that Marty sees and experiences. Everything to Wanda and Cam's "different" son, the new teacher and pastor, her adopted daughters growing up, Ma Graham's son falling in love with an Indian girl, and that is just the tip of the heart seen in this book.

Editorial Review:

Book 2 of Love Comes Softly. Their family growing, Clark and Marty look to bind each other together with love and faith. Over 800,000 sold!

Touch Not My Anointed 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Darrin Bainbridge, an inspiring young journalist is making a name for himself on the internet blogging under the moniker of "Diary of a Mad Black Blogger." One Sunday morning when his unofficial girlfriend gets up from his bed to have church via the televisioin with a mega church preacher, Bishop Kumal Prentiss, Darrin gets the idea to do an expose on the Bishop. This begins an adventurous detour in Darrin's life as he moves from Cleveland to Atlanta and becomes a member of the Freedom of Life church, in Tiffany Warren's newest novel, The Bishop's Daughter.

Bishop Prentiss is nothing like Darrin expected, then again neither is the church service and the not so pretty girl with the butt that catches his eye on his first visit. Biship Prentiss' method of speaking God's word draws Darrin in and he soon finds himself a member and involved in the church's singles ministry, and with that comes the drama only single church women on the prowl can bring. Still, Darrin is determined to write the story of his career, but he is finding it difficult because the Bishop does not have any skeletons to speak of, or does he?

Ms Warren pens a quick, fun read in this offering. She does a good job in switching from the male to the female voice. Darrin is funny. He is not quite the player he thinks he is and at times is conflicted. Emoni is flawed but is strong in her convictions. Her actions demonstrate how young and naïve she really is. Together they make for some interesting situations. There are also good secondary characters such as Dorcas, Oscar and Emoni's siblings. This is a strong effort by Ms Warren. I would recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction, however, if you are one of the chaste Christian fiction readers this might not be the one for you. Remember, sanctification is a process and everybody's just not there yet.

Editorial Review:

Darrin Bainbridge is your typical playboy in need of love, but not yet ready. He is a freelance journalist trying to break his big story. After a visit from his mother, Darrin gets an idea. He has heard all kinds of stories about "Hollywood" ministers who hold their church services on television, live in nice houses, drive nice cars, and have lots of money and women. Darrin is disgusted by it all especially when his mother Priscilla starts shouting praises for Atlanta Bishop Kumal Prentiss. Darrin decides to go to Atlanta, become a member of the bishop's church, and expose him for the hustling fraud that he believes he is. He just never planned on falling in love with the Bishop's daughter.

Darrin suddenly finds himself torn between his new found friend and his possible big break.
