ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! 5 out of 5 stars.

John MacArthur is among my heroes and this book is one of the examples why! He is an uncompromising voice of Truth who loves God's Word no matter the cost. This book is riveting and unsettling. It should be read by every authentic and truly regenerate Christian who is concerned by how many are being "taken captive" by lies and false doctrines - and in the church itself. I have led amazing small groups through this book and it increased our faith and challenged us to action. Thank you, John MacArthur, for being the Lord's servant. You are a beloved brother and I pray God will protect you and your family as you speak the truth in a hostile world.

Editorial Review:

Right now, Truth is under attack, and much is at stake. Christians are caught in the crossfire of alternative Christian histories, emerging faulty texts, and a cultural push to eliminate absolute Truth altogether. As a result, many churches and Christians have been deceived. Worse still, they propagate the deception that poses itself as Truth! In The Truth War John MacArthur reclaims the unwavering certainty of God's Truth and anchors Christians in the eternal, immovable promises that are found in His Word.

Editorial Review:

Dale Ahlquist, the President of the American Chesterton Society, and author of G. K Chesterton -The Apostle of Common Sense, presents a book of wonderful insights on how to "look at the whole world through the eyes of Chesterton". Since, as he says, "Chesterton wrote about everything", there is an ocean of his material to benefit from GKC's insights on a kaleidoscope of many important topics. Chesterton wrote a hundred books on a variety of themes, thousands of essays for London newspapers, penned epic poetry, delighted in detective fiction, drew illustrations, and made everyone laugh by his keen humor. Everyone who knew Chesterton loved him, even those he debated with. His unique writing style that combines philosophy, spirituality, history, humor, and paradox have made him one of the most widely read authors of modern times. As Ahlquist shows in his engaging volume, this most quoted writer of the 20th century has much to share with us on topics covering politics, art, education, wonder, marriage, fads, poetry, faith, charity and much more.

Must read for EVERYONE 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

One Heartbeat Away discusses in clear and understandable terms not just about salvation, but why we need salvation. Mark Cahill's method of writing is not 'preachy' but conversational and interesting in how he weaves in stories of his conversations with famous people and atheletes. This is a perfect book for someone who is seeking to understand what the message of the cross is and why it should matter to you and me. I highly recommend this book and suggest getting one for everybody you know.

Editorial Review:

Based on actual conversations with lost people, this book will help you anticipate their questions and objections. Why have atheists, agnostics, Muslims, Catholics, prisoners, and soldiers all read One Heartbeat Away and become born again? As best-selling author Mark Cahill suggests, because once you know the truth about the Bible, creation vs. evolution, heaven and hell, sin, and the cross, there is only one logical decision to make. The truth does set you free! Get this book into the hands of family, friends, and strangers and watch the Holy Spirit work wonders in their lives.

Refreshingly Reasonable 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

It might first be said that this work is quite unlike many of Mr. Lewis' other popular texts. While his clarity of thought and his uncanny ability to transfer thought to page in such a manner that the reader can clearly understand the author's logic remain present in this text; this work is, by no means, light or easy reading. That is, this particular work faces the tremendous challenge of formulating a logical and reasonable argument from the position maintaining that supernatural events are not entirely illogical or unreasonable. Mr. Lewis has successfully presented his argument in terms of both sound logic and persuasive argumentation; however, the presentation delves into the philosophical depths to achieve these ends. As such, the reader should be prepared for an experience which will require thoughtful contemplation if the subject matter is to be appreciated to its fullest, or any subsequent degree of entirety.

While this work is, as the title suggests, about miracles, one might want to avoid prematurely associating this work with other experiences had with similar subject material. The concept of miracles can be a stumbling block for many and, as a result, the subject might be overlooked or avoided as to not feel uncomfortable in one's own beliefs. However, this text presents the subject in an extremely approachable manner which will be appreciated by anyone who both wishes to tap into this particular issue and seeks logic in any explanation, argument, and position. If the curious reader is concerned about the depth of the subject matter, they may wish to first preview this text through any number of means before purchasing it as it might become quickly apparent whether or not that which the reader seeks to gain can be drawn from this work. Whatever the case may be, with time and a willingness to entertain the concepts contained within the pages of the text, much insight can be gained in this, yet another, masterpiece composed by C.S. Lewis.

Editorial Review:

An impeccable inquiry into the proposition that supernatural events can happen in this world. C. S. Lewis uses his remarkable logic to build a solid argument for the existence of divine intervention.

Editorial Review:

Reasons We Believe will reinforce your personal faith and will provide you with a clear, concise, evangelistic tool to help you share that faith with others.

In an age of cynics and skeptics, Christianity is constantly under attack. Believers need resources that defend the veracity of their faith. They are searching for clear, concise, and credible answers to both doubts of their own and objections from their unbelieving friends.

Nathan Busenitz provides such resources to believers. Reasons We Believe confirms and strengthens the faith of believers by demonstrating the reliability of the twofold authority on which Christianity rests: the Word of God and the person of Jesus Christ. Reasons builds a biblical foundation for the authority of the Bible and then shows how extra-biblical evidence corresponds with and thereby attests to what the Bible claims.

This study seeks to reinforce the faith of Christians while also providing them with a straightforward evangelistic tool for reaching non-Christians.

“A wholesome, faith-affirming volume. It will appeal to Christians who recognize many of the convictions they hold regarding the Christian faith, but who have not seen this many reasons all organized carefully under one cover.”
Gary R. Habermas, Distinguished Research Professor and Chair, Department of Philosophy and Theology, Liberty University

“Comprehensive and concise, qualities one rarely finds in the same volume. The book maintains a remarkable focus on Scripture itself. It shows how Christians can make use of traditional evidences and arguments within the Bible’s own framework of thought.”
John Frame, Professor of Systematic Theology and Philosophy, Reformed Theological Seminary; author of Apologetics to the Glory of God

“One of the most helpful apologetic guides to appear in a long time. Hugely helpful and highly recommended!”
Ron Rhodes, President, Reasoning from the Scriptures Ministries

“We live in a day when authors prostitute their scholarship to become rich on sensationalist books about so-called ‘lost Christianities’ and ‘lost Scriptures.’ Nate Busenitz’s sane and sound treatment of Christian evidences comes as a breath of fresh air.”
William Varner, Professor of Biblical Studies, The Master’s College; author of The Messiah: Revealed, Rejected, Received

Makes the crucifixion and the Eucharist make sense 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Hahn has a genius for making complicated concepts easy to understand. He leads us through the Old Testament and shows us how the old covenant leads up to and culminates in the Last Supper and crucifixion; and the new covenant begins with the resurrection and is perpetuated through the Eucharist. I have a much better understanding of the crucifixion and the Eucharist now that Hahn has put it into the context of Jewish history. My only complaint is Hahn's casual -- sometimes chatty -- writing style and occasional paraphrasing of biblical exchanges into modern American vernacular. While I understand that this book was written for a broad audience, I was still mildly irritated; that said, Hahn's brilliant insight makes this quip hardly worth mentioning.

Editorial Review:

A convert to Catholicism, Scott Hahn brings salvation history to life for the lay Catholic. By focusing on our status as part of the family of God, he shows how the broken human family is made whole in Christ. This book helps readers understand the deep personal love God bears for his people and the plan that he has to bring them into an intimate family relationship .

solid work but doesn't speak for all Christians 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is a solid work. Copan articulates himself clearly and well. His arguments are well thought out and he tries hard to be fair and thorough. His writing style is lively and accessible. The idea behind the book is clever and very much needed. However Copan sets himself up as having the Christian perspective on many tough questions asked by non-believers. He writes and assumes throughout his book that he speaks for all Christians, and this is not true. It became very clear to me half way though that my understanding of Christianity and Copan's are profoundly different and I cannot agree with many of the theological arguments he makes. Furthermore he does not acknowledge the fact that there are Christians out there, who are no less Christian then he is, who would not and do not agree with his interpretation of faith. Nor does he show that for every point he makes there are other, equally well thought out and well articulated, theological arguments that could be made. Once again another book that assumes all Christians experience Christ's love and their faith the same way, when this is simply not true.
The problem here is that if Copan didn't even manage to convince me, despite the fact that I am already a Christian, his book is ultimately just preaching to the choir.

Editorial Review:

More than ever, Christians are bombarded with tough faith questions from their pluralistic friends and neighbors. Many of these emerge as "anti-truth claims" and slogans we are all familiar with: • Why not just look out for yourself? • Do what you want--just as long as you don't hurt anyone • Miracles violate the laws of nature • Aren't people born gay? Paul Copan has been answering questions like these for many years. In When God Goes to Starbucks, he offers readers solid and caring Christian responses to these and many other concerns that are being discussed in Starbucks, shopping malls, youth groups, and schools. Each chapter provides succinct answers and points for countering the cultural questions believers are faced with today.

These books saved me 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that Schaeffer's "Trilogy" saved my faith, or at least saved me many, many years of trouble. The distinctions he makes between Biblical faith, church culture, and church history are life-saving to the sensitive and deep thinking. His overview of history and the history of philosophy are likewise lucid and at times revelatory (and echo a similar treatment by American Awakening theologian Jonathan Edwards whose overview of Western history is also simple brilliance).

If you, as I did, feel like you have broken a limb stumbling about in a dark room and colliding with something hard, and everyone around you is telling you the pain in your limb is all in your mind and all you need to do is "get a haircut and sit at the front of church", these books are for you. Schaeffer articulated thoughts and strugglings I had only ever voiced in my heart, and he did it 30+ years before I was ever aware of the problems. They are not easy reads, and you will have to take it piece by piece (I read them all 3 times before I felt all the pennies drop), but I promise you if you come to them with an open heart and mind, you will never regret it.

Schaeffer remains one of my heroes because of these books, and his work with L'Abri. They are more relevant than ever today, and I've reordered several copies to share with new friends who are struggling with the precise issues I was facing when I discovered Schaeffer.

Editorial Review:

With the publication of this Trilogy, Dr. Schaeffer's three foundational books are available for the first time in one volume. Schaeffer himself considered these three books to be essential to everything he wrote (twenty-three books in all), and it is here especially that we see his ability to understand the deep need of modern man for truth, beauty, and meaning in life.

Editorial Review:

What, if anything, is it that makes the human uniquely human? This, in part, is the question that G.K. Chesterton starts with in this classic exploration of human history. Responding to the evolutionary materialism of his contemporary (and antagonist) H.G. Wells, Chesterton in this work affirms human uniqueness and the unique message of the Christian faith. Writing in a time when social Darwinism was rampant, Chesterton instead argued that the idea that society has been steadily progressing from a state of primitivism and barbarity towards civilization is simply and flatly inaccurate. "Barbarism and civilization were not successive stages in the progress of the world," he affirms, with arguments drawn from the histories of both Egypt and Babylon.

As always with Chesterton, there is in this analysis something (as he said of Blake) "very plain and emphatic." He sees in Christianity a rare blending of philosophy and mythology, or reason and story, which satisfies both the mind and the heart. On both levels it rings true. As he puts it, "in answer to the historical query of why it was accepted, and is accepted, I answer for millions of others in my reply; because it fits the lock; because it is like life." Here, as so often in Chesterton, we sense a lived, awakened faith. All that he writes derives from a keen intellect guided by the heart's own knowledge. --Doug Thorpe

Editorial Review:

PREPARE YOUR MIND FOR ACTION

The mind plays an important role in Christianity. Unfortunately, many of us leave our minds behind when it comes to our faith.

In Love Your God with All Your Mind, J.P. Moreland presents a logical case for the role of the mind in spiritual transformation. He challenges us to develop a Christian mind and to use our intellect to further God's kingdom through evangelism, apologetics, worship, and vocation.

"This exploration into the mind of evangelical Christianity is one of the most courageous books of our time. In language that is thoroughly erudite but compassionate, theological but practical, and scriptural but entirely relevant to today, the author presents the deeper significance of Paul's plea to the Christians at Phillipi: 'Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.'" -D. James Kennedy, Ph.D., senior minister, coral Ridge Presbyterian Church

"This is more than just another Christian book. It is the wake-up call that the church needs today. God gave us minds for a reason. It is crucial that we become like Christ in the way we think. If we heed J.P.'s words, we can counter the culture in which we live, work, think, and minister." -Josh McDowell, Josh McDowell Ministries

"J.P. Moreland exemplifies the Christian mind as it ought to be-tough and analytic, but also generous and caring. Christians who want to develop their minds in the service of Christ couldn't find a better teacher, or a better book for the task." -Phillip E. Johnson, author of Darwin on Trial
