Refreshingly Reasonable 5 out of 5 stars.

It might first be said that this work is quite unlike many of Mr. Lewis' other popular texts. While his clarity of thought and his uncanny ability to transfer thought to page in such a manner that the reader can clearly understand the author's logic remain present in this text; this work is, by no means, light or easy reading. That is, this particular work faces the tremendous challenge of formulating a logical and reasonable argument from the position maintaining that supernatural events are not entirely illogical or unreasonable. Mr. Lewis has successfully presented his argument in terms of both sound logic and persuasive argumentation; however, the presentation delves into the philosophical depths to achieve these ends. As such, the reader should be prepared for an experience which will require thoughtful contemplation if the subject matter is to be appreciated to its fullest, or any subsequent degree of entirety.

While this work is, as the title suggests, about miracles, one might want to avoid prematurely associating this work with other experiences had with similar subject material. The concept of miracles can be a stumbling block for many and, as a result, the subject might be overlooked or avoided as to not feel uncomfortable in one's own beliefs. However, this text presents the subject in an extremely approachable manner which will be appreciated by anyone who both wishes to tap into this particular issue and seeks logic in any explanation, argument, and position. If the curious reader is concerned about the depth of the subject matter, they may wish to first preview this text through any number of means before purchasing it as it might become quickly apparent whether or not that which the reader seeks to gain can be drawn from this work. Whatever the case may be, with time and a willingness to entertain the concepts contained within the pages of the text, much insight can be gained in this, yet another, masterpiece composed by C.S. Lewis.

Editorial Review:

An impeccable inquiry into the proposition that supernatural events can happen in this world. C. S. Lewis uses his remarkable logic to build a solid argument for the existence of divine intervention.

Editorial Review:

An array of new archaeological finds and revealing discoveries in the ancient city hidden beneath Jerusalem lead to a stunning conclusion: The generation alive today will witness the return of Christ.

The evidence–uncovered by prophecy expert Grant R. Jeffrey–is breathtaking: Jewish authorities are preparing to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. Quietly they have recovered lost artifacts from the ancient Temple and have recreated sacred worship vessels. The new Sanhedrin, now reconvened in Israel, is training Levite priests to reinstitute animal sacrifice. These remarkable developments have far-reaching prophetic significance.

In this book you will examine the biblical prophecies and research data that together solve end-times mysteries, including:
·The search for lost Temple treasures
·Revealing discoveries in underground Jerusalem
·The process of recreating sacred Temple vessels
·Unexpected clues revealed in the Copper Scroll and the Ezekiel Tablets
·The latest plans for rebuilding the Temple

Join Dr. Jeffrey as he uncovers answers to questions that have perplexed students of prophecy for centuries. Answers that point to the unmistakable conclusion that this is truly the last generation.

Logical Progressions Should Not Be Ignored 5 out of 5 stars.

I have just completed my reading of reading R.C. Sproul's Chosen By God. Before I get into specifics, I would like to say up front that I absolutely loved this book.

From the front cover, it's not difficult to decipher what this book is about. It's about predestination. Although the tagline may be a bit cheesy, "Know God's perfect plan for His glory and His children"; I think it might carry with it some slightly arrogant connotations, however, you won't find any of those inside.

From the first chapter, Sproul documents, in brief, his own struggle with the biblical doctrine of predestination. In the beginning of the book, Sproul speaks mostly experientially. His own intellectual battle with previously learned doctrines that he was discovering didn't have nearly as much foundation as he thought. I was concerned in the beginning, he was speaking so much out of his own experiences, there was very little specific reference to scripture. He mostly just talked about ideas and his struggles with them, but didn't really qualify any of those ideas. I feared the worst. However, from the first chapter filled mostly with experiences, he beautifully builds eight more chapters saturated with scripture.

In another book from Sproul, What Is Reformed Theology (recently reviewed), I had major issues with Sproul's omission of specific scriptural references for the sake of easy reading. This is in no way the case here.

I'm generally a critical thinker. It's hard for me to ignore logic (that's probably a weakness some times). For me, this book fit like a perfect puzzle piece into how I generally receive and interpret information. Sproul builds, very clearly from scripture, a series of powerful and logical arguments. He argues extremely effectively for the reformed view of predestination, but at the same time speaks with a humble attitude that isn't likely to immediately turn subscribers of other theologies off.

The book is written to be very easily read; just over 200 short pages. It is clearly not written explicitly for the seminary student. While I'm certain most Christians would benefit from reading this literature, Sproul almost certainly had the average reader in mind. He does an excellent job of making the point that predestination is not a theology only for the theologically elite (not a term I'm crazy about) but something that any serious bible believing Christian has to deal with, and how we deal with it bears heavily on how we interact with God and others.

This book makes me want to make up a rating system for my book reviews so that I can give it really high marks. I am recommending this book to anyone who feels they'd like to try some solid food. I give this book 150 points. Also available in store at places like Borders and Barnes & Noble.

Editorial Review:

Here is a clear scriptural case for the classic (and sometimes controversial) Christian doctrine of predestination. Through this view of a truly sovereign God, readers will see how sinfulness prevents man from choosing God on his own; instead, God must change people's hearts.

One Heartbeat Away discusses in clear and understandable terms not just about salvation, but why we need salvation. Mark Cahill's method of writing is not 'preachy' but conversational and interesting in how he weaves in stories of his conversations with famous people and atheletes. This is a perfect book for someone who is seeking to understand what the message of the cross is and why it should matter to you and me. I highly recommend this book and suggest getting one for everybody you know.

Editorial Review:

Based on actual conversations with lost people, this book will help you anticipate their questions and objections. Why have atheists, agnostics, Muslims, Catholics, prisoners, and soldiers all read One Heartbeat Away and become born again? As best-selling author Mark Cahill suggests, because once you know the truth about the Bible, creation vs. evolution, heaven and hell, sin, and the cross, there is only one logical decision to make. The truth does set you free! Get this book into the hands of family, friends, and strangers and watch the Holy Spirit work wonders in their lives.

Editorial Review:

Dale Ahlquist, the President of the American Chesterton Society, and author of G. K Chesterton -The Apostle of Common Sense, presents a book of wonderful insights on how to "look at the whole world through the eyes of Chesterton". Since, as he says, "Chesterton wrote about everything", there is an ocean of his material to benefit from GKC's insights on a kaleidoscope of many important topics. Chesterton wrote a hundred books on a variety of themes, thousands of essays for London newspapers, penned epic poetry, delighted in detective fiction, drew illustrations, and made everyone laugh by his keen humor. Everyone who knew Chesterton loved him, even those he debated with. His unique writing style that combines philosophy, spirituality, history, humor, and paradox have made him one of the most widely read authors of modern times. As Ahlquist shows in his engaging volume, this most quoted writer of the 20th century has much to share with us on topics covering politics, art, education, wonder, marriage, fads, poetry, faith, charity and much more.

PREPARE YOUR MIND FOR ACTION

The mind plays an important role in Christianity. Unfortunately, many of us leave our minds behind when it comes to our faith.

In Love Your God with All Your Mind, J.P. Moreland presents a logical case for the role of the mind in spiritual transformation. He challenges us to develop a Christian mind and to use our intellect to further God's kingdom through evangelism, apologetics, worship, and vocation.

"This exploration into the mind of evangelical Christianity is one of the most courageous books of our time. In language that is thoroughly erudite but compassionate, theological but practical, and scriptural but entirely relevant to today, the author presents the deeper significance of Paul's plea to the Christians at Phillipi: 'Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.'" -D. James Kennedy, Ph.D., senior minister, coral Ridge Presbyterian Church

"This is more than just another Christian book. It is the wake-up call that the church needs today. God gave us minds for a reason. It is crucial that we become like Christ in the way we think. If we heed J.P.'s words, we can counter the culture in which we live, work, think, and minister." -Josh McDowell, Josh McDowell Ministries

"J.P. Moreland exemplifies the Christian mind as it ought to be-tough and analytic, but also generous and caring. Christians who want to develop their minds in the service of Christ couldn't find a better teacher, or a better book for the task." -Phillip E. Johnson, author of Darwin on Trial

Makes the crucifixion and the Eucharist make sense 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Hahn has a genius for making complicated concepts easy to understand. He leads us through the Old Testament and shows us how the old covenant leads up to and culminates in the Last Supper and crucifixion; and the new covenant begins with the resurrection and is perpetuated through the Eucharist. I have a much better understanding of the crucifixion and the Eucharist now that Hahn has put it into the context of Jewish history. My only complaint is Hahn's casual -- sometimes chatty -- writing style and occasional paraphrasing of biblical exchanges into modern American vernacular. While I understand that this book was written for a broad audience, I was still mildly irritated; that said, Hahn's brilliant insight makes this quip hardly worth mentioning.

Editorial Review:

A convert to Catholicism, Scott Hahn brings salvation history to life for the lay Catholic. By focusing on our status as part of the family of God, he shows how the broken human family is made whole in Christ. This book helps readers understand the deep personal love God bears for his people and the plan that he has to bring them into an intimate family relationship .

Editorial Review:

Reasons We Believe will reinforce your personal faith and will provide you with a clear, concise, evangelistic tool to help you share that faith with others.

In an age of cynics and skeptics, Christianity is constantly under attack. Believers need resources that defend the veracity of their faith. They are searching for clear, concise, and credible answers to both doubts of their own and objections from their unbelieving friends.

Nathan Busenitz provides such resources to believers. Reasons We Believe confirms and strengthens the faith of believers by demonstrating the reliability of the twofold authority on which Christianity rests: the Word of God and the person of Jesus Christ. Reasons builds a biblical foundation for the authority of the Bible and then shows how extra-biblical evidence corresponds with and thereby attests to what the Bible claims.

This study seeks to reinforce the faith of Christians while also providing them with a straightforward evangelistic tool for reaching non-Christians.

“A wholesome, faith-affirming volume. It will appeal to Christians who recognize many of the convictions they hold regarding the Christian faith, but who have not seen this many reasons all organized carefully under one cover.”
Gary R. Habermas, Distinguished Research Professor and Chair, Department of Philosophy and Theology, Liberty University

“Comprehensive and concise, qualities one rarely finds in the same volume. The book maintains a remarkable focus on Scripture itself. It shows how Christians can make use of traditional evidences and arguments within the Bible’s own framework of thought.”
John Frame, Professor of Systematic Theology and Philosophy, Reformed Theological Seminary; author of Apologetics to the Glory of God

“One of the most helpful apologetic guides to appear in a long time. Hugely helpful and highly recommended!”
Ron Rhodes, President, Reasoning from the Scriptures Ministries

“We live in a day when authors prostitute their scholarship to become rich on sensationalist books about so-called ‘lost Christianities’ and ‘lost Scriptures.’ Nate Busenitz’s sane and sound treatment of Christian evidences comes as a breath of fresh air.”
William Varner, Professor of Biblical Studies, The Master’s College; author of The Messiah: Revealed, Rejected, Received

A Needed Challenge for Western Christianity 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Though slightly pessimistic about the future of the church in the West, Newbigin provides a needed challenge to the modern church. The church in North America is in a new situation--there are a plurality of cultures represented in our major cities, and this plurality is spreading to smaller towns. How does the church reach out to and minister to their neighbor who is Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or Jewish--when the impression given is that some of these individuals of other faiths are more devout and holy than many Christians that we may know? What is a proper posture to take when standing for "the fact of Jesus?" How is the church to minister in a post-Enlightenment context, which has created a different worldview from that which dominated for the first 1800 after the coming of the Messiah?

This book is a good read--it provides challenges and a loose framework for how to move forward.

Editorial Review:

What is the Christian message in a society marked by religious pluralism, ethnic diversity, and cultural relativism? How does the prevailing climate of opinion affect, perhaps infect, Christians' faith? Newbigin addresses such questions in this incisive analysis of contemporary culture, and he suggests how Christians can more confidently affirm their faith in such a context.
