Insane! 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This book is insane!

If you are a believer in Biblical Prophecy to the point of being blind about anything logical, this book is for you!

There is little to this book accept the belief that everything in the Bible will come to pass and that the one true God, Jesus Christ, will rule the world above all other beliefs of other Gods.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I feel this is the same sort of propaganda that all religions preach.....that their God is the only true God. In this case, Jesus Christ.

It's sad that the author doesn't skip a beat feeling sorry for the thousands of lives that will be sacrificed in a third world war, if we are so unfortunate to have one. On the contrary, he seems to be anxious for it to begin, as it will result in the second coming of Jesus Christ! It's like, "Oh well, people will die but it's OK because we will have Christ here to make everything right!"

I respect the fact that people have a right to believe what they want, but really....isn't this a little bit over the edge? It does seem that some religious people out there, calling themselves Christians, are just as nutty as the Terrorist that recruit their people to become suicide bombers, in the name of their God.

As for my belief, I think that the mad men of this century are all too willing to bomb each other until only the cock roaches will be left to decide if it was all worth it, and if they will see Jesus Christ, Allah or some other God return to earth.

The author is a fanatic and a nut....trust me on this one.

Editorial Review:

In his first groundbreaking nonfiction book, now with updated content, New York Times best-selling author Joel C. Rosenberg takes readers on an unforgettable journey through prophecy and current events into the future of Iraq after Saddam, Russia after Communism, Israel after Arafat, and Christianity after radical Islam. You won't want to miss Joel's exclusive interviews with Israeli, Palestinian, and Russian leaders, along with previously classified CIA and White House documents. New content includes the most up-to-date information since the hardcover release in 2006, a new poll about American attitudes toward the Middle East and prophecy, and transcripts of interviews conducted during the interview process for the Epicenter DVD-video.

High Hopes, Big Disappointment 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

As many others have noted here, I had high hopes that his book would give more spiritual insight into heaven and faith. However, I was left wanting. The content of the chapters were loosely strung together and the repetition of phrases and lack of cohesion was frustrating. I've yet to finish the final chapters, and I'm not even certain I'll waste my time. The most positive thing I can say about the writing--it had the potential to be a really good book.

Editorial Review:

As he is driving home from a minister's conference, Baptist minister Don Piper collides with a semi-truck that crosses into his lane. He is pronounced dead at the scene. For the next 90 minutes, Piper experiences heaven where he is greeted by those who had influenced him spiritually. He hears beautiful music and feels true peace. Back on earth, a passing minister who had also been at the conference is led to pray for Don even though he knows the man is dead. Piper miraculously comes back to life and the bliss of heaven is replaced by a long and painful recovery. For years Piper kept his heavenly experience to himself. Finally, however, friends and family convinced him to share his remarkable story.

Editorial Review:

For years Christians have been asking, "If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?" It turns out that many believers have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven.

Award-winning author N. T. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian's future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright, who is one of today's premier Bible scholars, asserts that Christianity's most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection. He provides a magisterial defense for a literal resurrection of Jesus and shows how this became the cornerstone for the Christian community's hope in the bodily resurrection of all people at the end of the age. Wright then explores our expectation of "new heavens and a new earth," revealing what happens to the dead until then and what will happen with the "second coming" of Jesus. For many, including many Christians, all this will come as a great surprise.

Wright convincingly argues that what we believe about life after death directly affects what we believe about life before death. For if God intends to renew the whole creation—and if this has already begun in Jesus's resurrection—the church cannot stop at "saving souls" but must anticipate the eventual renewal by working for God's kingdom in the wider world, bringing healing and hope in the present life.

Lively and accessible, this book will surprise and excite all who are interested in the meaning of life, not only after death but before it.

Heaven 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased 8 copies of this book, Heaven, by Randy Alcorn, for my Bible Study group in the United Methodist Church. We have been very impressed with the information. It has answered a lot of our questions about what is Heaven really like - where is it, etc.

Excellent book 5 out of 5 stars.

I learned a lot from this book, and recommend it to everyone. Mr. Alcorn goes to great lengths to show the Scripture behind his writing.

I have to say "The Heaven" is indeed a worth reading and definitely inspiring book to read 3 out of 5 stars.

Alcorn has written a terrific book on the topic of "Heaven". One of the wonderful experience when reading "THe Heaven" is that I feel my understanding about heaven and life after death is being challenged. "The Heaven" gives me an opportunity to rethink about my understanding and interpretation in the scriptures on this particular topic. Alcorn has made some sound exegesis and used some very good examples from the scriptures to support his view and argument. Alcorn mindfully explains and elaborates his point of view on heaven. Alcorn is able to turn heaven as described in the scriptures into a 3 dimensional picture allowing audience to visualize what the actual life of heaven will "possibly be like". He makes heaven such a very interesting topic to think about. Indeed, it needs to acknowledge Alcorns's insight into the topic of "Heaven" and his effort in putting this book together. However, it will also be true and fair to say that many of Alcorn's views on heaven are speculations and personal opinions. It needs to be read with cautions and tested with the golden standard, the bible. Anyhow, I have to say "The Heaven" is indeed a worth reading and definitely inspiring book to read.

Editorial Review:

What will heaven be like? Randy Alcorn presents a thoroughly biblical answer, based on years of careful study, presented in an engaging, reader-friendly style. His conclusions will surprise readers and stretch their thinking about this important subject. Heaven will inspire readers to long for heaven while they're living on earth.

The trouble with thee and ye 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

It took me a long, long time to get through this short book. I had difficulty following all the thees and the yees, tracking the differences between the spirits and the ghosts, deciphering the solid beings from the translucent ones.

I can sit through an amount of philosophizing; I don't think I can sit through much theologizing.

But there are times when something--and the gift of this book is you feel it is addressed to you. . .the meddlesome wife. . .to you the vain artist. . .to you the knowing teacher--is said just right. Listen:
"We met several Ghosts that had come so near to Heaven only in order to tell the Celestials about Hell. Indeed this is one of the commonest types. Others, who had perhaps been (like myself) teachers. . actually wanted to give lectures about it: they brought fat notebooks full of statistics, and maps, and (one of them) a magic lantern. Some wanted to tell anecdotes of the notorious sinners of all ages whom they had met below. . . `You have lead a sheltered life!' (these teachers) bawled. `You don't know. . .We'll tell you. We'll give you some hard facts.' . .All alike, so far as I could judge. . .were wholly unreliable, and all equally incurious about the country in which they had arrived. They repelled every attempt to teach them, and when they found that nobody listened to them, they went (away)."

If you are a teacher--as I am--you should be arrested by the truth of that scold. So I plodded--at times reluctantly along a paragraph a day, a page a day--to get to the next bit of truth. And--at times--I was similarly arrested. Here, about the consequences of habitual "small" sin, listen:
"I am troubled, Sir," said I, "because that unhappy creature doesn't seem to me to be the sort of soul that ought to be even in danger of damnation. She isn't wicked: she's only a silly, garrulous old woman who has got into a habit of grumbling."
". . .The question is whether she is a grumbler, or only a grumble. If there is a real woman--even the least trace of one--still there inside the grumbling, it can be brought to life again. If there's one spark under all those ashes, we'll blow it till the whole pile is red and clear. But if there's nothing but ashes. . .they must be swept up."
"But how can there be a grumble without a grumbler?"
"The whole difficulty of understanding Hell is that the thing to be understood is so nearly Nothing. But ye'll have had experiences. . .it begins with a grumbling mood, and yourself still distinct from it. . .Ye can repent and come out of it. But there may come a day when you can do that no longer. Then there will be no you left. . .just the grumble itself."

I benefited from these, and similar insights, disappointed, though I was, in the book.

Editorial Review:

The Great Divorce is C.S. Lewis's Divine Comedy: the narrator bears strong resemblance to Lewis (by way of Dante); his Virgil is the fantasy writer George MacDonald; and upon boarding a bus in a nondescript neighborhood, the narrator is taken to Heaven and Hell. The book's primary message is presented with almost oblique tidiness--"There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done.'" However, the narrator's descriptions of sin and temptation will hit quite close to home for many readers. Lewis has a genius for describing the intricacies of vanity and self-deception, and this book is tremendously persistent in forcing its reader to consider the ultimate consequences of everyday pettiness. --Michael Joseph Gross

Hell Smells Like Poop 5 out of 5 stars.

Fun for kids and adults alike, "23 Minutes in Hell" is populated with adorable characters and silly descriptions of a magical place author Bill Wiese calls "Hell." You'll fall in love with the silly monsters and goofy creatures as well as marvel that the way Wiese squeezes comedy out of any situation. A COMEDY CLASSIC!
PS - There's no shame in mentioning both 9/11 and the Holocaust to make your point and sell books. No shame at all!

Editorial Review:

What is hell like, and how does one avoid an eternity of torment? Bill Wiese shares his unforgettable experience during which God allowed him to see and feel the agony people endure in hell.

Wiese's visit to the devil's lair lasted just twenty-three minutes, but he returned from this with vivid details etched in his memory. He records an accurate account of his experience in this book, presenting more than three hundred scriptures that verify the horrors he endured and observed.

Undivine Revelation 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I decided to read this book after the author of "23 Minutes in Hell" made a reference to her experience in his book. After reading both books, I do not believe Miss Baxter's story. In fact, the story that Bill Weise portrayed in "23 Minutes in Hell" is more believable than the story in "A Divine Revelation of Hell". The first thing that I noticed about this book was the repetition. Miss Baxter, throughout the book, repeated herself continuously throughout the book. I believe if you threw out the repetitions, then the story could be as short as a magazine article. The second thing that I noticed about this book was how simple it wss to read. This, most times, oculd be a good thing but in this case the level of reading is so low that a child could understand it. Her writing is not very professional at all. It appears that the book was just thrown together without doing any editing. She does include actual biblical material but she has twisted it to fit what she wanted it to be. As a Christian myself, I believe that once a person is saved they are always saved. As I was reading this book, I got the impression that she was saying that it is possible for a Christian to lose their salvation. As I see it, Miss Baxter was only interested in making money off peoples interests in this particular topic. She may have succeeded in doing this but she didn't convince me that her experiences were real.

Editorial Review:

Over a period of forty days, God gave Mary K. Baxter visions of hell and commissioned her to tell all to choose life. Here is an account of the place and beings of hell contrasted with the glories of heaven. It is a reminder of the need each of us has for the miracle of salvation.

Editorial Review:

Why should you care about Israel? With the war in Iraq, possible engagement in Iran, and an imminent presidential election, U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and the issue of solidarity with Israel remain important.
In Two Nations Under God, American missionary Tom Doyle presents even greater reasons why the U.S. should show concern for Israel. Part one, “Why Should America Care?” is a biblical and historical primer on Israel with fascinating insights into connections between American and Middle East culture. Part two, “Sorting Out the Middle East Maze,” presents more facts about Islam and the spiritual roots behind the Middle East conflicts. Part three, “Maximizing the Moment,” is a call to action and prayer for the A merican church regarding the future of Israel.
Best of all, readers will learn throughout that, despite the headlines, there is plenty of good news coming from the Middle East. Doyle reports on the increasing number of Muslims converting to Christianity, profiles local disciples and church planters, and provides helpful timelines, comparison charts, photographs, and more to keep every detail concerning Israel in perspective.

Endorsements:

"Chaos. Carnage. Confusion. For many, that’s the modern Middle East. But Tom Doyle gets it. Better yet, he can really explain it. With a pastor’s heart, he clearly and concisely describes why God loves the Jews of Israel and her Muslim neighbors, and why we should, too. What’s more, Tom reveals how powerfully God is moving in the modern Middle East, and how we can join Him. Two Nations under God is a must read—fascinating, insightful, and deeply thought-provoking. Get one for yourself, and another for your pastor."

Something to look forward to 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Randy Alcorn takes the entire Bible and brings out of it a cohesive and inspiring picture of life in heaven.
Rather than "pie in the sky" tacked on when we die, he shows how heaven is an integral part of Biblical
faith. Well written and thought-provoking.

Got Heaven questions? This answers all of them! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was a great resource for all of my questions, big and small. It addresses all questions, some serious and some a little silly but I just skipped over the ones that didn't apply to my area of curiosity. Randy Alcorn took all of his answers from scripture, which is what I wanted. He added some of his own opinions but he answered the question based on the Bible and then he would sometimes offer his own thoughts to elaborate on the subject, which was great. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has questions about Heaven now, and after we get there. What a great book!

Editorial Review:

This is a companion study guide to Randy Alcorn's best-selling Heaven. The Heaven Study Guide is designed to facilitate group discussion, but can also be used for individual study. The study guide is divided up into chapters that correlate with the chapters in Heaven. The Heaven Study Guide features more than 200 thought-provoking questions. You'll find helpful excerpts and Scripture references. The guide provides an easy-to-use workbook format that allows you to write directly in the book, plus additional space for study notes.
