Business Law textbook 4 out of 5 stars.

I haven't actually used this product in class yet as I'm just getting my books together for the fall semester but I have looked it over and it looks to be very informative of business law with examples and definitions etc. I can't however say it is or will be a pleasure to read I bought it because it's required for my business law class not because I wanted to.

Editorial Review:

Comprehensive, relevant, and meticulously up-to-date, BUSINESS LAW, Eleventh Edition, combines in-depth coverage of business law in a unique student-friendly format. It delivers a classic blend of black letter law and cutting-edge coverage of contemporary issues and cases--making the law accessible, interesting, and relevant for readers. It provides an excellent assortment of cases, ranging from precedent-setting landmarks to the most recent decisions. Ethical, global, and e-commerce themes are integrated throughout the text, which also emphasizes critical-thinking skills. Numerous features and exercises ensure that students have a solid understanding of chapter concepts. In addition, the text's unmatched support materials include innovative online study tools that will help maximize efforts and improve results. It's no wonder that BUSINESS LAW, Eleventh Edition, is used by more colleges and universities than any other business law text.

popular ... but why? 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 8 people found this review helpful.

After completing my first year of law school, I really wonder why so many professors use this textbook. More than half the people I spoke with in my class thought the casebook's usability was poor or worse.

Property is not a difficult class, aside from future estates and related issues (Rule Against Perpetuities). The hardest thing about property is knowing the jurisdictional views on various aspects of property law, and this casebook does only an OK job highlighting that. It is basically a lot of memorization and the learning of that material could have been substantially aided by organizing the book differently.

Additionally, many of its cases are not sufficiently edited, thereby necessitating that one read through too much irrelevant information to get to the legal issue. My other case books are much more balanced on this issue.

As a last note, the production quality is lower than what I would expect for its price. The paper chosen and the fair reproduction of what photos exist in the book contrast strongly with its price.

I suppose this sounds like a laundry list of complaints, but the book compares poorly to my other casebooks, simply stated.

Great Book To Keep 5 out of 5 stars.

I have been through a few bad and good text books throughout my college career, but this had to be one of the best I ever picked up. It is easy to search through and actually makes the topics interesting to read.

West's Business Law, tenth edition 5 out of 5 stars.

The book came in a sealed cover. Although it looks brand new, it does say it is "used". You would never know it. It came in a timely manner and when I followed up w/the seller to see when it shipped, they sent me back an e-mail within a few hours. I would highly recommend using Off Campus Athens again.

Editorial Review:

A market leader used by more colleges and universities than any other business law text, West's Business Law continues to set the standard for making classic black letter law accessible, interesting, and relevant to business students. This Tenth Edition refines and builds upon traditions established when the book was first introduced: authoritative content blended with cutting-edge coverage of contemporary topics and cases and an unmatched selection of innovative, high-quality support materials.

Glannon is fantastic. This is a great book to review before exams, and it also is a great value!

Useful & recommended 4 out of 5 stars.

Though I ended up not having much use for this book due to my professor's distinctive teaching methodology, I still found it helpful in clarifying the basic concepts of Torts. The author injects a slightly dorky sense of humor into the narrative, which makes the information more accessible and easier to grasp. He also has a very clear, conversational writing style. Overall recommended (at least if you don't have my Torts professor).

Editorial Review:

A favorite among law students and professors alike, the Examples & Explanations series is ideal for studying, reviewing and testing your understanding through application of hypothetical examples. Authored by leading professors with extensive classroom experience, Examples & Explanations titles offer hypothetical questions in the subject area, complemented by detailed explanations that allow you to test your knowledge of the topic, and compare your own analysis.

Editorial Review:

Gain a solid understanding of the concepts underlying today’s federation taxation for individuals and corporations with the 2009 edition of Murphy/Higgins’s CONCEPTS IN FEDERAL TAXATION. This edition presents the latest tax codes and changes within a straightforward, strong conceptual approach that focuses on understanding the unifying concepts behind the tax code, rather than relying heavily on memorizing the details of the code. Concept Checks break material in comprehensible segments with an emphasis on the conceptual underpinnings that drive today’s tax laws, while extensive Examples relate concepts to familiar business scenarios. More end-of-chapter exercises than any other text of its kind give you a choice of research opportunities and tax return options as you review. Murphy/Higgins’s CONCEPTS IN FEDERAL TAXATION promises a strong balance between tax concepts and the Internal Revenue Code and regulations that prepares you for success on the CPA exam as well as your career.

Bought this book because it was cheaper than Ebay. Book has a lot of information in it which may seem boring for most people.

Editorial Review:

WEST'S LEGAL ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS is the #1 text for this course--setting the standard by delivering comprehensive, authoritative, and cutting-edge coverage in an interesting and accessible format. Its recipe for success includes the same "black letter law" flavor as its #1 Business Law counterpart, West's Business Law, but with a more specific focus on current topics like ethics, government regulation, and administrative law. Updated and expanded teaching materials, including the new West's Legal Environment NOW online assignment administration tool, keep this text unmatched in its ability to support the key objectives of the course.

Avoid at all cost 1 out of 5 stars.

This is by far the worst tax book I have seen. I had to endure this book in a corporate tax course at CMU. This book will leave you clueless on how to actually prepare a tax form. I received an "A" in the course but the book should get an "F". Instructors should care about their students and not on the kickback that they get from the publishers. If you have to use this book - Good luck.

Not so hot overview of Agency & Corp Law 2 out of 5 stars.
15 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I was unimpressed with this book. Many in my class struggled because of the way the book was thrown together.
My main problems are the lack of explanation for key concepts, other than a reference to a cut-down case and the questionable decision to use cases that don't clearly explain the issue at hand.
I was thrown off at first when I couldn't find some of the cases in Lexis or WestLaw. Rather than relying on an on-topic US SC case or even a Fed circuit case, some key concepts get examples that are unpublished lower-court decisions where the judge makes either the wrong decision or the right decision for the wrong rulings. The book does not point out the error of the court when it does this. Most of the time this happened, my professor would point out that we should ignore this case and learn the concept from a study guide or his class notes. In an ideal BA book, the authors wouldn't try to trick students by giving them bad examples of the law (or without explaining that the examples have faulty legal logic).
If you are reading this review, you are likely either a law student or a law professor. If you are a professor, please think twice about using this book. If you are a student, you will have no choice in the matter. If you find yourself struggling then read the Lexis and Westlaw briefs or get the High Court Summary for this book. My school bookstore didn't have the HC summaries for this book, but Amazon did.

Editorial Review:

Continuing the tradition that has made it a leader in its field, Problems on Professional Responsibility uses problems to provide an overview of lawyers' professional responsibility. One of the most rapidly changing fields in American law, professional responsibility sees new issues, rules and cases each year, all of which are covered in this book. The Ninth Edition covers the American Bar Association's Model Rules of Professional Conduct, which were extensively rewritten in 2002; the American Law Institute's Restatement Third, The Law Governing Lawyers, and issues raised by federal agencies that play an important role in determining lawyer standards. Other changes to this edition include more citing authorities, fewer black letter questions and issues in each problem to allow more time for discussion and questions; and the integration of readings into discussion materials.
