Useless for most, great for small business 4 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

This book should really be titled "How Small Businesses can Minimize their Taxes." That is the entire focus of the book. (Note that this includes consultants and other types of small businesses.) It covers a lot of topics in an organized manner, giving useable advice and not just concepts.

If you do not have a small business, will this book convince you to do so? Probably not. For example, you can deduct your entertainment expenses - as long as you invite complete strangers over to your house.

If you own or are seriously considering starting your own business, this book is worth getting. If not, don't bother.

Editorial Review:

Lower Your Taxes-Big Time! helps you to legally and dramatically cut taxes by establishing yourself as independent contractors or businessperson-writing off everything from vacations to movies and plays, and receiving a subsidy of $5,000 or more from the IRS every year.

Great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about running meetings in an organizational setting. Seems to me lots of meeting attendees think they know how to make motions and take actions but in my experence most meeting attendees do not know the basic rules of order. I use this small easy to understand book monthly as a reference at my Chamber of Commerce. A must have if you serve as a member of any Board of Directors or formal meeting group.

Editorial Review:

At last, a book on parliamentary procedure that everyone can understand!

If you've ever had to run a meeting according to parliamentary procedures, you know just how difficult it is to keep track of all the rules, much less follow them. Figuring out what to say and how to say it seems an impossible task.

Robert's Rules in Plain English is the solution to that problem. Not only does it provide you with essential, basic rules in simple, straightforward English, it also includes sample dialogues so you can see exactly how those rules work in practice.

Using summaries, outlines, charts and forms, Robert's Rules in Plain English provides you with all you need to know to run a meeting successfully and to keep it on track.

A Practitioner's Perspective 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought an earlier edition while I was in law school. This book is very well organized and covers both the conceptual and practical perspectives of taxation extraordinarily well. The questions at the end of each section help to solidify your understanding of the concepts by varying the fact scenarios from question to question.

I've been in tax practice for ten years, and I purchase each updated edition for a review of the conceptual aspects of taxation and for a quick review of the tax treatment of transactions I haven't handled very often in practice.

One of the true sales classics! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have read a few of Zigs books and always come away satisfied and educated. This book should be required reading if you are in sales, and I would even recommend it if you are not in sales. The reason a non-sales person could profit from this book are manifold. This book teaches more than selling, it teaches how to deal with people. If you understand how a person thinks, or understand what they mean as opposed to what they are saying, you can steer them where you need them. You can connect to them. thats a great thing on many levels.

As you read this book you will keep thinking to yourself "thats a great idea" or "thats a good point". After reading this book and using what Zig teaches, you will look at your sales calls in a different light. You will go into every meeting with the expectation that you will sell your product or service, it will help your prospect, and there is no way they will not see the value of what you are offering. Its that simple. If you believe you are there to help this person, it comes through in your words and actions.

Zig has an excellent technique to teaching, he tells stories. That works great for me because I can easily remember more and it quickly comes to mind when I hear an objection or question from a prospect. I am then able to quickly word it in a way that helps the prospect.

"Failure to hit the bullseye is never the fault of the target and failure to close the sale is never the fault of the prospect". You need to be better to help more prospects buy your product or service. This book will help you in that goal.

Another classic addition to your sales library should be How to Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins.

Editorial Review:

Ziglar's ultimate sales guide covers creative closes, reasons people won't buy and ways to overcome them, selling with integrity, and more. Previously available as a direct mail package for $59.95. Unabridged.

Really bad 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book and its utter waste of paper and money. There are much better forms available for free to be downloaded from the internet. This book is completely useless for anyone who lives outside USA. I think Americans are smart enough to google the kind of forms they are looking for.

A little out dated 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is a little outdated, but is very useful in writing you own form. Most of the forms on the disk can't be customized using newer word processing software.

    Editorial Review:

Here's the classic "bible" of forms and checklists for every situation a professional photographer may face. Thoroughly expanded and updated to cover the Internet, this brand-new Third Edition contains 31 forms, each ready-to-use as is, or easily tailored to fit any situation. Photographers will find contracts for wedding, portrait, and assignment photography; property and model releases, assignment estimates, confirmations, and invoices; delivery memos; license for Web usage; nondisclosure agreements; and much, much more. An accompanying CD-ROM provides electronic versions of these forms, ready to use on both Macs and PCs.

    Editorial Review:

Most of us know very little about the law. We pick up bits of information from television and newspaper accounts of current legal battles, and from bestselling novels and popular movies. But these pieces do not give us an accurate or complete picture.
In Law 101, Jay M. Feinman offers a delightfully clear introduction to law, covering the main subjects found in the first year of law school and giving us a basic understanding of the American legal tradition. Readers are introduced to every aspect of the legal system, from constitutional law and the litigation process to tort law, contract law, property law, and criminal law. Feinman illuminates each discussion with many intriguing, outrageous, and infamous cases, from the scalding coffee case that cost McDonald's half a million dollars, to the sensational murder trial in Victorian London that led to the legal definition of insanity, to the epochal decision in Marbury v. Madison that gave the Supreme Court the power to declare state and federal laws unconstitutional. He broadens the reader's legal vocabulary, clarifying the meaning of everything from "due process" and "equal protection" in constitutional law, to the distinction between "murder" and "manslaughter" in criminal law. Perhaps most important, we learn that law is voluminous and complex, but accessible to everyone.
Anyone who enjoys Court TV will find this book irresistible. Everyone who wants a better grasp of current legal issues, from students contemplating law school to journalists covering the legislature or the courts, will find here a wonderful source of information--a complete, clear, and colorful map of the American legal system.

This is a great supplement that covers the 2005 changes in the code. Watch out for other supplements that are still owrking off of the pre-2005 amendments.

The right tools 5 out of 5 stars.

If you are taking an introductory course in Bankruptcy, get a copy of this book - And use it! If your course also includes Chapter 11 Reorganizations, I would also recommend that you get a copy of Chapter Chapter 11 Business Reorganizations: For Business Leaders, Accountants And Lawyers. They are useful before exams. But I recommend getting them at the start of the semester.

Excellent Primer on Bankruptcy 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I am an experienced lawyer and regularly read books (usually one-volume treatises) outside my practice area. Comprehensive books on bankruptcy are hard to find, and I purchased Blum's for lack of any alternative. The book is well organized, clearly written, and contains a lot of information. Even the attempts at humor are generally successful.

To offer some unsolicited advice to law students, I don't recommend using this or any supplementary texts in your courses. Stick with the casebook and other materials the instructor assigns. It may seem as if this requires more effort to learn the subject than is warranted, but you won't regret it. You'll never have the time once you start working to reread and think about cases that you have while in school. That 3 years may seem like a long time, but if you take it seriously you will benefit significantly throughout your career. It is surprising how often I encounter exprienced lawyers who are ignorant of matters I learned in law school (now long past) and still remember.

    Editorial Review:

To keep pace with the recent major changes in bankruptcy law, noted author Brian Blum presents a completely revised edition of his popular study guide, "Bankruptcy and Debtor/Creditor: Examples & Explanations." This comprehensive text is well known for its effectiveness in helping students understand the many rules, principles, and policies of the area.
