Interesting but lack of attention to the Kindle version 3 out of 5 stars.

I'd give this 3 1/2 stars as I found the content fairly well presented but felt some of the issues were too rushed and could be more deeply examined analytically. It felt like the publisher's deadline was the more important criterion. Also, I appreciate that this was not a political partisan or ideological diatribe. Phillips is pretty fair in assigning failures to the people in control.

The loss of a star was due to the Kindle edition not linking footnotes or the index to their references in the text. What use is an index with no links or location numbers? Thus, as a non-fiction work for future reference it fails poorly. How about a revised Kindle edition that previous buyers can upgrade to?

A warning for the uninitiated 5 out of 5 stars.

This book should be required reading for all wanna be I-bankers. The author very convincingly describes the inner workings of a major financial institution. From the outside, the public only sees the expensive suits and tall glass buildings and are suitably impressed by the knowledge and skills of those who works inside. But the author takes us behind the doors to show frighteningly how the lifeblood of the world is controlled by a bunch of 25 year olds who have little idea of the magnitude of their actions.

Michael Lewis describes his corner of wall street pretty well. The 1980s bond market. He continually contrasts the practice and culture of trading bonds with the dogma of Economics.

Over the course of the book it becomes easy to draw parallels between Wall Street and Feudal Europe. The Economists are like the Catholic Church in Feudal Europe. The Traders are like the Nobles and Royalty in Medieval Europe. The Job of the Nobles is to fight other Nobles over the right to control land, rent, and protection fees. The Job of the Church is to teach people who aren't Nobles that they should do what the Nobles tell them to. In exchange, the Church will occasionally ask the Nobles to behave a little better.

Excellent book! This book will challenge modern day thinking on food and pharmaceuticals. Campbell is an educated researcher who astonishingly comes to the realization that modern concepts of a healthy diet are actually not based on fact and research. Our love affair with meat and dairy have some significant implications for our overall health. Well written, well researched. It is worth having in your personal library.
