Good Reference for English 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I recommend this book to those who are seriously studying English as a foreign language. Not only does it explain the basics of grammar, but it also includes many drills that enable you to clearly understand each rule. The index in the back of the book is very useful.

I truly recommended!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Perfect for AFAST 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book to study for the AFAST exam. All the sections in this book mirror the fomrat of the AFAST. However, their were some slight differences:

1) The pictures in the Instrument Comprehension portion of the practice exam are extremely dated in comparison to the actual test.
2) The actual AFAST helicopter knowledge questions seemed too easy in comparison to the ARCO study guide.
3) The cyclic orientation questions were easier on the AFAST.
4) The mechanical functions portion had several questions about boats and ships, which were not in the ARCO study guide.

All the personal questions and the complex movements were pretty much exactly the same as the AFAST. Making note cards for the complex movements is a good idea. I also purchased PRINCIPLES OF HELICOPTER FLIGHT to assist with my helicopter knowledge. The diagrams, explanations, and glossary words helped me out tremendously in that book.

Overall this ARCO study guide is great for the AFAST. I scored a 134 on the exam thanks to this book.

huge book, worthwhile and seems complete 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a huge book, worthwhile and seems complete. I also have the Your MBA Game Plan: Proven Strategies for Getting into the Top Business Schools, and this book is ten times the size. I have yet to read the whole thing and probably will never; however it is easy to find the data I need for my search. I also like the discussions about why and where to go, not just the how like in other books.

This book helped me get into a top school! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I used the previous edition of the book in 2006 (green cover) and it helped me get into a top 5 business school. In fact I got into both the top 5 schools that I had applied to.

My advice to applicants is to pay special attention to essays and recommendation letters. If the writers are too busy, write one up for them (call it a template) and let them edit it. That way you can get them to say what you want them to say more or less.

Spend a LOT of time on the essays, they can make or break you more than the GMAT. Read them over and over again, read them aloud, have someone read them to you and have them reviewed by someone who got into the school you want to get into. The sample essays in the book were great to know what kind of information the admissions committee would look for. I took as much as 30 days of every day work to get my essays in the form that I was happy with.

Montauk's book guides you through this process and that was the only book I used.

Editorial Review:

Now updated and revised.

Now with new and expanded information on Executive MBA programs, the most up-to-date school rankings, new interviews with admissions officers, and more detailed advice for younger applicants, Montauk offers an up-close and candid view of what leading MBA programs look for in an applicant.

Disappointed 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

After having read about Brain Gym in other books, I rather expected a little something more. What I got was a very thin book of limited scope and poor illustrations

Should have bought a diffrent edition 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this because I read that Brain Gym was good for kids with special needs. Never having seen it done or used any other Brain Gym products- I naturally ordered the TEACHERS EDITION, thinking all the directions would be there for implementing this is my classroom. This manual would be for someone already familiar with the basics of Brain Gym exercises who wanted to find creative ways to use it within a classroom setting. I will be looking for Brain Gym products that meet my needs better.

Not up to standard! 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Although the content is very interesting, the quality of the graphics, typesetting and production is terrible! The illustrations are all line drawings by an amateur, and poorly illustrate the movements and postures described in the text. If the publishers didn't have a monopoly on the content, they simply couldn't get away with such a low standard. Considering the premium price point for this slender tome, one should expect a higher standard.

Editorial Review:

Conceptual Physics 4 out of 5 stars.

I am a retired engineer, but now translating technical document.
The book of "Conceptual Physics" is helpful to learn basic theory
of technical writing.

Beware that the lab book comes with package edition 4 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book for my high school daughter so I can't really rate it. But be aware that the lab book comes with the package edition so don't order it separately or you'll have to send it back like I did.

Worst physics textbook yet! 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is highly unorganized, important concepts are all over the chapters. The illustrations are bad, distracting and most of the time, not descriptive. But the worst thing is at the end, some review questions and exercises require students to know some equations that are never touched in the book; some questions require you to know some Algebra 2 level stuff and some concepts are not taught.

Editorial Review:

Written for students of introductory physics, this best-selling text offers students an upbeat, non-threatening overview of the discipline which focuses on concepts and critical thinking rather than number-crunching. It presents physics in a language students can comprehend, using analogies and mental imagery based on real world situations. Mathematical equations, formulas, and calculations appear as a footnote on the page to reference and supplement chapter concepts and help students see the connection between math and science.

Editorial Review:

(NOT FOR SALE IN US AND CANADA) The essential guide to marketing services, that has become a business classic. Many companies who claim to be selling products are really selling services. What used to be a product-driven economy is now replete with services. But unlike products, you can?t touch services, hear or see them. Services are mainly just promises that somebody will do something. They are invisible. So how do you sell, develop and make them grow? This international bestseller, now in paperback, answers that question with insights on how the markets for services work and how customers think and behave towards your offering. When it comes to marketing and selling, the difference between products and services can be enormous. A treasury of bite-sized, practical and intelligent strategies, based upon the author?s extensive experience, Selling the Invisible will open your eyes to new ideas that will enhance the value and profitability of any company in today?s service market. The book begins with the core problem of services marketing: service quality. It then suggests how to learn what you must improve, with examples of what works. It then moves on to services marketing fundamentals: defining what business you really are in and what people really are buying; positioning your service; understanding customers and buying behaviour; and communicating your service.

I can see why we call this a "classic" 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Anyone who is a frequent reader of this blog knows of my aversion to classics. I don't typically enjoy them, I always have to force myself to finish them, and I usually just end up giving up before I finish altogether. This book started out similar - it took me a really long time to get invested in the story and characters, I read it very slowly, and I was pretty sure I was going to hate it by page 50. Fortunately for me, though, I ended up enjoying the story when I (sadly) forced myself to continue on. (Thanks, Classics Challenge, for that little push!) I am SO proud of myself for getting through this and actually feeling like I somewhat enjoyed the book. Someone described this book to me as almost like a soap opera (can't remember who...), and that individual is completely right. There is so much drama in here... it's crazy. I definitely felt attached to the characters, even with all their unpredictable drama, and I'm glad that I finished the book and got to appreciate it. I can't really say that this is one of my favorites, but it is a pretty decent book, and I can see why it is dubbed a "classic".
