The Truth About Vampires 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Jason Freeman has come to accept that there are vampires living nearby but still has the occasional nightmare about bloodlust. Then his aunt who helped his family move to Malibu arrives. Shortly after an old friend from Michigan also arrives. But the friend seems to be in trouble. At first Jason thinks its about the divorce of his friend's parents but soon Jason notices bits of odd behavior that make him wonder if his friend is in some serious trouble.

But it is at a local party that things really begin to go bad. A priceless heirloom goes missing from the house the party was in and Jason's friend begins to act extremely strangely. Then it gets worse. The heirloom is actually a relic that is very important to the vampire society. A member of the head council has arrived and will put things right. But that will probably mean the death of the thief. Is it Jason's friend? Who is the council member? What is the object and why is it so important? Can Jason head off disaster?

This was a very good follow-up to BLOODLUST. We learn a lot more about how vampires operate and how there society is structured. There are some unanswered questions at the end but they will hopefully be answered in future volumes. Since we already know of their existence at the start of the book, vampires play a much bigger role than in the first book. Although there will doubtless be more in the series there are no cliffhangers to make one want to wait for the next book before reading this one. Check it out.

THE A-LIST BITES.

Jason Freeman is getting the hang of DeVere Heights. Then life from his flyover past pays an unexpected visit in the form of his old friend Tyler. Jason's surprised -- but psyched to see a familiar face.

Having his friend around turns our to be a downer -- especially when Jason realizes that Tyler is running from some kind of crisis. But Tyler isn't in on DeVere Heights's little secret. Now instead of escaping his problem, he's about to put himself in mortal danger. Literally.

A fun-filled, and scary read! 4 out of 5 stars.
42 of 42 people found this review helpful.

If you are interested in camping out in the woods, and telling ghost stories this book would be a great read. My favorite tale is "The Boy Who Cried Werewolf" which is a take-off of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" story. Harriot is effective at being both funny and scary with this story whose ending is reminiscent of shaggy-dog stories. The second half of the book has some pretty frightening works, like "A Night at the Delany House", which is a creepy tale about two kids who are dared to stare at a haunted house for a night. Kids will love it, especially the funny ones.

A handy Scout resource! 4 out of 5 stars.

This handy little book was written for the Boy Scout leader, to give you stories to tell around the campfire, as well as tips on how to tell them. There are twenty-four stories here: ten funny stories, and fourteen scary ones. Couple all that with the Telling A Story chapter, and you have got yourself a handy Scout resource!

Now that I am going on some Scout campouts, I have found the desire to be able to tell some "ghost" stores at the campfire, and this book (which is NOT an official BSA publication, by the way) is a nice thing to have. The stories are great, but I must say that their length at six pages does rather tax my memorizing abilities. That said, though, I did like this book, and highly recommend it.

The Third Evil Twist 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Another work of art by R.L. Stine. This book is about a young girl named Corky recovering a tragic accident of the death of both her sister and her boyfriend by an evil killing them and taking over her friends' bodies. She goes to a cheerleading camp only to find out the evil, so evil to say, overtakes her body. If you are an R.L. Stine reader...you know, your in for the third evil twist.

The Evil Is Still Alive! 5 out of 5 stars.

This time Corky Corcoran, Kimmy Bass, Debra Kern and Ronnie Mitchell visit a cheerleading camp. Their cheerleading camp is so creepy because the evil is still alive. Wow!. I can't believe Corky was possesd here. Will she die?.

Great! 5 out of 5 stars.

Corky's sister, Bobbi, had just been killed two books ago ('The First Evil') by the...thing. She lately has had dreams of her sis haunting her at night, opening her own head.... Then at Cheerleader Camp, there are unexplainable incidents: Hannah's plait is cut off and Corky finds the scissors on HER dresser. But what she doesn't realize is that it's because The Evil no longer inhabits Kimmy, but her...
If you want a scary, edge of your seat book, dig into this one by R.L Stine. Even if you haven't read the other two ('The First Evil' and 'The Second Evil') the book still explains for you what had happened lately. A fantastic read!

Editorial Review:

Tormented by dreams of her dead sister, Bobbi, and by a series of gruesome events, Corky knows that it is up to her to learn the century-old secret that is tearing her world apart.

Editorial Review:

No vacation. No benefits. And the only retirement is an early death.

With the closing of the Hellmouth and the awakening of hundreds of potential slayers, Buffy Summers thought she had overturned the Slayer's self-sacrifice and earned herself a much-deserved break. But the thrill of victory is short-lived. The Forces of Darkness are not ones to graciously accept defeat, and the collective rage unites disparate and powerful parties more eager than ever to reclaim dominance.

Willow's magickal distribution of the slayer essence left girls across the world discovering their latent power. Giles races to reorganize the now much-needed Watchers Council, and the Scoobies relocate to Europe. And there in Rome, Buffy is drawn to the Immortal -- a charismatic, if inscrutable, figure. But then comes word that a number of the fresh slayers are being coerced to join an army of slayers -- governed by the mysterious "Queen of the Slayers," an awesome evil determined to claim the intoxicating slayer essence for herself.

Xander is sent to Africa to learn more about the origin of the slayer essence. Instead, he returns to report that, alarmingly, there's not enough good in the world to counteract the overabundance of evil, and that the deciding apocalypse is drawing much too near. Alliances are formed and loyalties betrayed as it comes down to slayer versus slayer, leading to an ultimate battle of champions -- from Buffy's past and present. And then an unimaginable gift arrives...

Spike in 1977 New York 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

In the Summer of 1977 Spike was on the outs with Drusilla. Because of this he decided to track down the current slayer and feed on her. The current slayer is Nikki Wood who is operating in New York, a city on edge from bad Mayoral decision, the Son of Sam, and police union controversies. Nikki tends to occupy herself dismantling a vampire mob that runs the crime in her part of the city. Nikki is also in a rare state as she is one of the few slayers to have a child. To add to the flames it looks like Drusilla has also come to the city.

Steeped in actual New York City history, this is an interesting and tragic tale. An fan of the show knows how this is going to end. But there are some nice new touches that lessen some of the tragedy. All in all this is an important chapter in the Buffyverse and it has been told very well. Fans of Spike will especially want to read this one. Check it out.

Editorial Review:

THE DARK IS COMING. . . .

New York City in 1977 is vampire heaven. Serial killer Son of Sam is often blamed for their hits, and a citywide blackout gives them free reign of the streets, allowing them to get away with murder. Spike and his beloved Drusilla are in the Big Apple taking advantage of the situation, as is Vampire Slayer Nikki Wood, who has hunkered down with her son, Robin, in a Times Square apartment where she thinks they'll be safe.

But no matter where she goes, Nikki has to watch her back. Spike has only one thing on his mind: to slay a slayer. Adding to Spike's list of challenges is a corrupt local vampire community that catches wind of his presence, and when they start messing with him, things get bloody interesting.

If you like Buffy (and I know you do), just get this 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Really funny and witty with a lot of "inside" jokes for BtVS fans. The inside is just like a regular high school yearbook for any school...that was built on a hell mouth and had a mortality rate nearly matching its graduation rate. Great color pictures (HS Cordy, need I say more?) and quotes from the 3 best seasons (IMHO) of the late great BtVS. Thank God it lives on in FX reruns about 16 times a day and the DVDs are very reasonably priced.

Editorial Review:

It's senior year for Buffy Summers and her friends. And that means homecoming, senior prom, finals, graduation -- all the usual evil doings guaranteed to make the Chosen One long for recess.

Slayer duties caused Buffy to miss picking up her Yearbook, so Willow took it for her and enlisted the help of Xander, 0z, Cordelia, Giles, and Angel to make it truly special. Filled with personal notes, candid photos, and in-jokes about Slayerfest, Halloween, substitute teachers, the principal who was eaten, Ascension, etc. -- Buffy's Yearbook is part school publication, part memory book.

Written by the authors of the bestselling The Watcher's Guide, this keepsake volume is packed with key references to the show and characters, 32 full-color pages of fan-favorite moments, and Graduation photos!

Good, but two problems 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is a good book with two problems. We never got a charecter discription. The night people could have had three heads, we just don't know. The second is we don't know what we are fighting. I think it is Angelica Fear. All we know is they killed Candy for no reason. But it is still a good book. Book one in the trilogy

Editorial Review:

When you can't sleep,

there's always NIGHTS.

It all started with Lewis and Jamie. They were sneaking out late at night to be together. Then their friends started joining in. First at the old burned-down Fear Mansion. Later at the local bar Nights.

They called themselves the Night People. And they carefully protected their secret world. No parents, no work, no stress. Just chilling with friends in their own private after-hours club.

But then the nights turned dark. Unexplainable accidents, evil pranks...and then, later, the killings. The Night People know they have to stop the horror all by themselves, or else they risk exposure -- not to mention their lives.

Things go bump in the Night....

Editorial Review:

Midnight, the ancient evil sanctuary of vampires and their human slaves that was burned to the ground centuries ago, has risen from the ashes to open its dark doors once more. And it's up to Turquoise Draka, famed human vampire hunter of the Bruja guild, to stop Midnight's founder and vampire most malevolent, Jeshikah. But once inside Midnight's walls, Turquoise discovers that instead of Jeshikah, the surprisingly benign vampire Jaguar is at the helm. Acting as a human slave, Turquoise tries to discern Jaguar's mysteriously kind motives as she works at planning Jeshikah's assassination. Meanwhile, her acting servitude is playing havoc with her memories, as she begins to recall the bleak days when she used to be a human slave herself, the time before her training as an elite Bruja warrior. With bitter memories of beatings and humiliations battling with her present suicidal assignment, Turquoise must do everything in her power to keep from blowing her cover and losing her sanity.

Teenaged horror author Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has successfully hit her writing stride in Midnight Predator, her fourth novel. Finally her burgundy-haired, black leather pant-wearing, revenge-lusting characters (and those are just the humans!) seem less like Anne Rice rip-offs and more like original Atwater-Rhodes creations. Atwater-Rhodes's use of flashbacks is more polished than in previous works, and her characterization is more solid and consistent. Teen vampire fans will eagerly fall upon this vibrant, violent addition to Atwater-Rhodes's intricately woven dynasty of vampires, witches, and shape-shifters. (Ages 12 and older) --Jennifer Hubert

A Ghost Story with a Contemporary Twist 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

A. M. Jenkins is well known for her accurate and sympathetic portrayals of teenaged boys. Here she mixes things up by alternating with the broken yet poetic voice of the ghost of a young girl from a hundred years before. The life of the boy and the memories of the ghost intersect in a literally shattering way. While this seems like Cora, the ghost's story, there is so much revealed through the seemingly distant third-person telling of the boy's story. You will want to read it over again immediately to savor the clues and details the author so skillfully weaves into her unusual narrative.

Editorial Review:

This house

is mine

and

I am

its beating heart.

She is a ghost: a figure glimpsed from the corner of your eye, a momentary chill, and a memory of secret kisses and hidden passion. He is 17 years old: Evan Calhoun, warm and alive, and ever since moving to this big abandoned house, he has dreamt of her. Ghost and boy fascinate each other–until her memories and his desire collide in a moment that changes them both.

Combining verse fragments with chiseled prose, A. M. Jenkins captures the compelling voice of a long–dead ghost and the perspective of a modern teen, twining mystery and romance in this evocative, sensual, and unrelentingly engrossing novel.

Hot!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book is scary and funny together. Young Amy visits her Aunt Angie in Shadysie, all innocent. But by the end of the novel she really grows up. I'm glad this book featured pre-teen versions of Hannah and Julia. I love how this book had a classic FRIGID scenerio. Little by little Amy finds out her Aunt Angie is evil, and wants Amy's stay to be forever... You'll have to read to find out!

You will never be allowed to leave. 4 out of 5 stars.

When Amy Pierce's father is injured at war, her mother is off to help him, while Amy will be staying at her cousin Angelica Fear's house. However, Amy soon begins to learn that behind all of Angelia's riches and beauty, there is terror. Many people are afraid of her, and some rumors say that Angelia practices dark magic and uses it to kill.

Amy doesn't believe any of this. Until she starts to get an unpleasant fealing in Angelica's home. Something is watching her...something not human. She's sure that something isn't right when many deaths start to happen. Amy must find out quickly if she really is living with a murderer. But she better be careful, because anything she does might cause her to end up dead.

HOUSE OF WHISPERS is a pretty interesting novel, especially for fans of Fear Street. A little problem I had was that at some points, it seemed like R.L. Stine forgot the story was about horror, and it became a romance novel. And the surprise ending isn't really much of a surprise. But it will definitely scare you, and have you gripping on the edge of your seat from the beginning to end.

Editorial Review:

Visiting her cousins Simon and Angelica Fear, unaware of the terrible legacy that haunts everyone associated with the Fear family, Amy Pierce senses an evil presence in their New Orleans mansion and fears she will never escape.
