Editorial Review:

The first kiss occurred in a dimly lit hallway on the upper floor of Elwin Hastings's grand house. Louisa never saw it coming....

Of course, Anthony Stalbridge couldn't possibly have had romantic intentions. The kiss was an act of desperation meant to distract the armed guard from catching the pair in a place they did not belong. After all, Louisa Bryce, in her dull maroon gown and gold-rimmed spectacles, was no man's idea of an alluring female. The only thing the two interlopers have in common is a passionate interest in the private affairs of Mr. Hastings-a prominent member of Society whom they both suspect of hiding terrible secrets. Now, brought together by their ruse, Anthony and Louisa are united in their efforts to find the truth.

Each has a reason for the quest. Anthony's fiancŽe was said to have thrown herself into the Thames-but Anthony has his own suspicions. Louisa-whose own identity is shrouded in layers of mystery-is convinced that Hastings has a connection to a notorious brothel. When Anthony successfully cracks Hastings's hidden safe-and discovers incriminating evidence-it appears that both their instincts were correct.

Yet Hastings is hiding far more than jewels and ledger books. Bringing him to justice will be more perilous than they anticipate-and their partnership will be more heated than either one expects. For it is not only Anthony's curiosity that Louisa arouses, and the two share something else: a thrilling attraction to danger. . . .

From the triple-threat author who also hits bestseller lists under the names Jayne Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle, this is a delightful new romp filled with suspense and wit-and the steamy Victorian passion her devoted readers love.

Marty's Wardrobe 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It had been a while since I read a book, so I decided to try reading Love's Abiding Joy since I had already read the first three books in the series. Well, I'm on chapter eight, and may decide to go ahead and finish it, but it's not been as good as I hoped. It begins with the author assuring the reader that Marty still feels as young at fourty-two as she did at thirty -- and Clark is still cute with grey hair. Trust Hollywood and a shallow American mind to make us concerned that the people we read about be young and good looking. It would seem to me that people back then would age sooner due to hard lives; but if they are interesting characters, who cares? Most of what I've read so far has to do with the outward. Marty's dresses. Marty's hat. What Marty eats. Marty staying neat and tidy . . . Not that I am uninterested in the way people lived in that time period, but in a Christian book -- or even a good secular book -- I do not find a character who is mostly concerned with outward things to be very inspiring.

Editorial Review:

Book 4 of Love Comes Softly. Reuniting with their daughter's family, grandparents Clark and Marty's hope and faith are tested by a tragedy. Another Janette Oke bestseller!

VERY good 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was very well thought out and planned. I liked that she put in numerous twists and turns. It was a new concept of murder that I hadn't read before. It kept me interested in what was going on and thinking about who was really behind it all. I enjoyed the Kincaid family and Julia's interactions. I loved how it showed them working through things and what they were thinking. It was interesting to see how they handled the police with Emily and her mental state. I wasn't sure I would like this trilogy after the first book since it wasn't as strong as this one. However this book more than made up for it. I can't wait to read the final book in the Evil trilogy. I would highly recommend this book.

Editorial Review:

A cunning killer hides in plain sight.

A troubled teenage girl has been charged with the grisly murder of her stepfather. The evidence is damning: Emily was found alone at the scene with blood on her hands, and an incriminating e-mail she wrote outlines a murder plot identical to the method of the brutal slaying. But deputy district attorney Julia Chandler believes her niece is innocent, and she’s determined to keep the promise she made to protect her dead brother’s daughter–even if it means hiring private eye Connor Kincaid . . . the man who blames her for forcing his resignation from the police department.

Together Julia and Connor uncover a chain of unsolved violent crimes tied to an unorthodox therapist whose anonymous online patients purge their anger by posting lethal fantasies. But someone in the group has turned vigilante, turning the game of virtual murder into a flesh-and-blood vendetta.

After evil is seen, face your ultimate fear.

A Parody of Great Classics 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Its been hard to find a teenage romantic fiction that is so delightful. The book is very well written. Ibbotsen is extremely clever. She creates complex and varied characters. Her story telling is filled with historical and cultural references without becoming a lecture. There were times where I couldn't stop laughing and other times when I stopped, reread the sentence, and acknowledged how witty it was written. I especially liked her caricature of the dashing Russian prince who has been relentlessly pursued by women since he was six. There are prima donnas, babies who cut their teeth on heavy gold crowns, a snobbish dog, pseudo-science, spirits, dignified butlers, gold diggers, and a club of Russian royalty scheming on how to regain their fortune. This book is incredibly entertaining, and I recommend it to anyone who likes a book in the style of the grand old classics with an extra dose of humor and wit.

Editorial Review:

After the russian revolution turns her world topsy-turvy, Anna, a young russian countess, has no choice but to flee to england. penniless, Anna hides her aristocratic background and takes a job as servant in the household of the esteemed westerholme family, armed only with an outdated housekeeping manual and sheer determination. Desperate to keep her past a secret, Anna is nearly overwhelmed by her new duties—not to mention her instant attraction to rupert, the handsome earl of westerholme. to make matters worse, rupert appears to be falling for her as well. As their attraction grows stronger, Anna finds it more and more difficult to keep her most dearly held secrets from unraveling. And then there’s the small matter of rupert’s beautiful and nasty fiancée. . . .

Now I want to write 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Reading Memory of Running made me want to write. If gatekeepers of literature can label this as a bestseller, I know I have a chance at this hack. This text has the traits of soaps, low literature, and bafoonery. I read like it like it was a chore, working out, pushing for the last set of an exercise you hate but should do. Maybe my analogy doesn't work because I exercise for my health since I can't find a reason why I plowed slowly through this. I didn't get any satisfaction. Fiction shouldn't read like fiction.

I'm not familiar with McLarty's writing, and it could have just been my perspective at the time. I just finished two Lionel Shriver novels. Memory of Running read like dime store plot, no introspection, just a lot of pedaling, but even that was so unrealistic. No evidence of burn or wind burn. It didn't sear, but it's a feel-gooder, and that alone has a lot of value and merit for sentimental readers. Have we become so politically correct that we have to applaud for the fat guy who lusts for a wheelchair-bound neighbor girl? I don't mean to sound calloused, but just one of the variable would have worked, not those two and a crazy sister who poses and disrobes when she hears The Voice.

A New York Times Bestseller

Meet Smithson "Smithy" Ide, an overweight, friendless, chain-smoking, forty-three-year-old drunk who works as a quality control inspector at a toy-action-figure factory in Rhode Island. By all accounts, including his own, Smithy's a loser. But when his life of quiet desperation is brutally interrupted by tragedy, Smithy stumbles across his old Raleigh bicycle and impulsively sets off on an epic journey that might give him one last chance to become the person he always wanted to be.

Just okay 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I liked this book mostly because of the way the author wrote it. I wasn't forcing myself to read it or anything which is always good. Also, I think it is very realistic with the teen love thing. At first I thought that the fact that they mostly expressed themselves sexually just showed that they only lust for eachother but then I thought well they're teenagers so that not really too odd. I still wished the main characters would have showed there love in more ways than hanging out and just going home to have sex.

Another reason I only thought it was okay was because the storyline just seemed so fast. It just went from one scene to a completely different one and too fast it was over.

I did like the ending though <> At first I thought there would be this big happy ended where love always conquers and all that bull, but the ending was more realistic. She ended up breaking up with Michael so now she'll be able to get some experience with other guys instead of just being tied down to one person she "loves." It's rare that your first boyfriend will be the one you spend your life with and at 18 you've barely explored a world outside of high school.

So like I said it was just alright. I don't think that I'd suggest it to anybody else though.

Editorial Review:

There's a first for everything.

When you build up something in your mind -- really imagine it, wish for it -- sometimes, when it actually happens, it doesn't live up to your expectations.

True love is nothing like that.

Especially not for Katherine and Michael, who can't get enough of each other. Their relationship is unique: sincere, intense, and fun all at the same time. Although they haven't been together all that long, they know it's serious. A whole world opens up as young passion and sexuality bloom.

But it's senior year of high school, and there are big changes ahead. Michael and Katherine are destined for another big "first": a decision. Is this the love of a lifetime, or the very beginning of a lifetime of love?

Loves Enduring Promise 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an excelent companion to "Love Comes Softly". It is the second in the series and an excellent read. I found it hard to put down. Janette Oke is a wonderful writer and can keep you so involved with the story that you hate for it to end.

Love's Enduring Promise is Endearing 5 out of 5 stars.

What can I say, people reading the book expecting to see the same story as the movie will be disappointed. The plot and story that you find within the movie is a completely different story. The book and the movie only share the title and the characters and that is it. Missie doesn't have to choose between Willie and some rich guy, Willie has no little brother and plays a very minor role in the overall book.

The book covers 13 years, and it is a rather short book to cover that length of time. The book picks up 3 years after the first book. Missie is five years old and the book ends with her wedding day.

There is no central plot, but a combination of plots woven together that Marty sees and experiences. Everything to Wanda and Cam's "different" son, the new teacher and pastor, her adopted daughters growing up, Ma Graham's son falling in love with an Indian girl, and that is just the tip of the heart seen in this book.

Movie confused me..........still liked it 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I started reading the books after i watched all 3 movies. The book was very different then the book. I cant say i was disappointed. I enjoyed reading this version. This book was about Missie's journey to the west, and what she went through to get there. How hard it must of been. I still recomend this book. Just dont go into it thinking it is like the movies.

Love's Long Journey 4 out of 5 stars.

I tried to read this book three times and gave up after a few chapters. Then I decided I was going to read it from cover to cover, and I was delighted to find that the book picks up momentum as it goes along. It's like the first few chapters your'e pushing uphill, and all of a sudden you arive at the top and . . . WHEEEEE!!!!!!! A wholesome, well written novel about a young couple starting a new life together in the West. Realistic - not a fairy tale - but a joy to read. If I had a complaint, it would be the polarization between the Christians and the non religious charactors. Missy is always feeling sorry for the lost people and thinking about how cold and hard their hearts are, and how they have problems. I am a Christian, and I feel it is important to share my faith with others, but it should be remembered that all people are created in a unique and special way - believers and unbelievers. There are very few people who are so sick they are just one lump of pain and problems. Also, I thought it was slightly annoying how Missy constantly sympathized with the trivial difficulties of her neighbors on the wagon train when she had just as bad or worse problems herself. Seems a bit like a saviour complex, to me. Having thus said, I enjoyed this book and would highly reccomend it to fans of Inspirational and historical fiction.

Editorial Review:

It seems like the summer of dreams come true for Hollywood princess Kaitlin Burke: the media loves her (again), super-cute and funny Austin Meyers is finally her boyfriend, and she's starring in a movie by her all-time favorite director Hutch Adams. What could be sweeter? But life on set is not as perfect as the makeup and costumes. And with an old love and a scheming new publicist on the scene, it's about to get a whole lot messier.

Combining the vicarious glamour of the New York Times bestselling A-List series with the innocence of The Princess Diaries, this commercial and appealing sequel offers another captivating glimpse behind the velvet ropes of stardom.

Tantalizing new Hollywood secrets appear throughout.
