I'm mostly nostalgic 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I first saw STAR WARS in 1991, I was seven. When this book came out in '96, it was the first Star Wars book I'd ever read, and was the conduit between fan and fanatic. Granted, most of it didn't make a lot of sense as I hadn't read the previous five books in the series yet, but it was still a page-turning read. 'Jedi Under Seige' wraps up the 'Shadow Academy' series of Young Jedi Knights. This series was done as a series of individual events that all tied together in 'Seige'. The second sub-series, 'Diversity Alliance', is one long adventure divided into five major events. A third sub-series, 'The Gallandro Trilogy', is more or less a waste of time. But 'Seige', alone or in context, delivers the goods.

Kavin J. Anderson has probably never had an original idea in his life. He's written numerous Star Wars novels, co-written three Dune novels, at least three X-files books, but only a precious few original stories whose plots seem suspiciously like old episodes of Star Trek. Anderson's wife, Rebecca Moesta, has even fewer credentials. However, Anderson and Moesta both have solid skills at characterizing, plot-development and visualizastion, though sometimes their dialogue falls flat.

Despite all of the down-falls that would seem to make this book a waste of time, it's not. The few hours spanned in the story move faster than real-time with action, emotion, and some genuinely witty dialogue here and there.

Editorial Review:

Reuniting with the street orphan Zekk while visiting their home on Coruscant, twins Jacen and Jaina Solo see how different they have become from their wild but talented friend, who is tempted by the someone from the Dark Side. Original.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I love nancy drew and hardy boys supermysteries. that's the only time i read them now cause i love it when they're 2-gether!!This book is the absolute best one!!!

I swear Ned and Callie hold nancy and Frank back. And you know when he started to say something what it was!!! But i love that Jean-Claude is a prince!!! He seemed sooooooooo awesome.

Back to nancy and frank I totally agree with those who think that they should hook up!! I mean they never bring Callie with them so i mean COME ON!!!! Bring on the romance!!! (between nancy and frank that is, ned doesn't deserve her he'd rather study than be with her.)

I also love Bess she's a lot like me but then again i guess i am a mix of george and bess a shopping girl but tomboy in one.

In this book Frank and Joe Hardy invite Nancy Drew and her trustey companion, Bess Marvin to help find a couple of wanted jewel theifs. In the book Bess falls head over heals for a young man who the group later finds out is the prince who will be signing the countrys treatey. Joe is jelous of Bess's new found boyfriend. It turns out that the prince's superviser is behind the prince's kidnapping. Well actually the prince pays some goons to pretend that they are kidnapping him once or twice or so. The prince can get away from his body gaurds with no trouble. For all those Nancy/Frank fans this book has some romantic moments. Frank almost tells Nancy how he feels about her. It turns out the jewel theifs are a girl Joe gets a little crush on and her father. Nancy tricks the groups kidnapper into thinking she has trigered a bomb that could blow any second. This book is so enjoyable, I read this book about 25 to 50 times. I can read this in 1 hour but thats why I was nick named Book Worm. I sugest you read this book and then you decide if you liked reading it or not. Happy Reading....

Slow read 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have read a lot of Buffy and Angel book. This one is just so SLOW. I am ready to give up. Usually I can polish a buffy book over a weekend. This one last five days, and I am barely half way through.
Granted, some of the dialogue is ok, and have some inside jokes about people on the show are cute. But, the problem is the story is just not moving from chapter to chapter. The villians are not very interesting. Too many non-essential characters running in and out story with nothing to add the story.
Skip this book unless you have problem falling asleep at night.

Luke-warm at best 3 out of 5 stars.

One of the more mediocre Buffy or/or Angel books. Full of inside this and that as if the author (who shouldn't have to prove herself at this point) wants us to know that she is fluent with the Buffyverse. The characters were pretty much cardboard charicatures of themselves. No real life in any of them. The plot was very contrived and didn't work for me. Overall I think she tried too hard and got caught up in her own intricate web.

Editorial Review:

Buffy and Angel both battle the same ancient evil, a Possessor who was once Qin, First Emperor of China, and who is now attempting to usher in the Year of the Hot Devil and drive humans out of this dimension.

This is one of the best cartooning books ever 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I am an illustrator, animator, AND I work at Fox. My copy of this book has gotten so much use over the 7-odd years I've had this, it should be falling apart. This is why this is such a great book:

1) IT'EASY AND IT'S FUN. Many "how-to" aniimation and cartooning books purportedly cater to children, yet the drawing level is way beyond most entry-level artists; the Simpsons, by Groening's own admission started out as lame doodles. Everything is made up of circles and squiggles - perfect!

2) IT'S WELL ORGANIZED AND VERSATILE. There are many poses and expressions to try drawing, which set you into the whole "vocabulary" of the Simpsons.

3) IT'S FUNNY, AND REALLY EDUCATIONAL. Tips like "Bend those elbows!" and "Marge's hair hides two bowling balls," not only get a laugh, but really give you an insight on how to contruct a solid animated figure.

I refer to this book all the time, even for my own drawings. For the money, this has been one of the most useful pieces of reference I have. Get it for your favorite starving artist, or doodling kid.

Back when teen series were good and simple 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the original teen series it was written in the 90s before all of the Gossip Girl and other clone like series came out. The main character Summer (who the series is named after) goes to the Keys to stay with her snobby and also depressed and suicidal cousin Diana for the summer on the way she's whining about some guy back home in Minnesota who doesn't notice her and sits next to a tarot reader on the plane who tells her she's going to meet three guys and one of them is going to be the one for her while there she meets a girl named Maria Marquez who becomes her best friend and also in my opinion is the best character in the series. She's wild and crazy but also smart and has big dreams of going to an Ivy League school. The first guy she meets is Seth (they are THE original Seth and Summer) who is obviously the one but he has a jealous ex girl named Lianne who can't seem to get the fact that it's over so she takes up with a rich guy named Adam who used to date her cousin and finds out he's part of the reason Diana is so depressed. The other guy is Diver who practically lives on the beach and he's kind of mysterious and by the end of the series we find out why. This is three books in one. They came out a month apart notice the titles with the months in them, so unlike now with Gossip Girl you didn't have to wait six months to see what happens next. I read them when they original came out in the 90s. And I still have them! They are still a fun read that is actually appropriate for middle school girls (the people who really read young adult books) unlike so many of the books that come out now. Please give this book a try and when you read the 90s references keep in mind that was when it was written!

Editorial Review:

Three months. Three guys. One amazing summer.

Summer Smith is in for the best summer of her life. Between the cold weather and her boyfriendless existence in Minnesota, Summer is ready for sun, sand, and boys in the Florida Keys. And by the end of the first day, she has more than enough to keep her busy:

Adam, the senator's son, has looks, power, and all the money in the world.

Diver, the mystery man, is mellow, intriguing, and definitely unique.

And Seth, the perfect guy...only he has a girlfriend.

But with new friends, cute guys, and miles of hot white sand, Summer's in for more trouble than she thinks....

Please Don't die, was the first of many books by Lurlene McDaniel that i have purchased and read. Not only is it entertaining it helped me to get over the death of my cousin, who died of Leukemia. the individual stories of all the girls jumps out and grabs you, whether you want it or not. If you want a book that you want to read and be affected this is it.

Editorial Review:

When Katie O'Roark receives an invitation from the One Last Wish Foundation to spend the summer at Jenny House, she eagerly says yes. Katie is ever grateful to the anonymous "JWC," the person who gave her the gift that allowed her to receive a heart transplant. Now Katie is asked to help others who, like herself, are facing medical odds against them.

Being a "Big Sister" to Amanda, an eleven-year-old victim of leukemia; Chelsea, a thirteen-year-old candidate for a heart transplant; and Lacey, a fifeen-year-old diabetic who refuses to face her problems, is a challenge. As the summer progresses, the girls form a bond of friendship as they behave "just like healthy kids."

When a crisis occurs and one of the girls does not get to fulfill her dreams, the friends are devastated. The girls vow to gather each summer, so long as one of them is alive, in honor of their dreams and of a friendship strong enough to endure beyond this life.

Editorial Review:

America's favorite nuclear family returns in this latest installment in our bestselling Simpsons comic compilations. This time, Springfield is buzzing with excitement as Marge does battle with airwave sleaze, Bart steps in as an emergency bus driver, and Homer takes on his worst enemy—his brain.

In Simpsons Comic on Parade, campaign fever is heating things up in Springfield, and the Simpsons are embroiled in political mud-slinging, pandering, pundits, and opinion polls. Democracy was never this much fun. Then Marge Simpson is mad as heck, and she's not going to take it anymore! Fed up with tawdry talk shows, she sets out to clean up the airwaves by serving up her own show, baked fresh with wholesome goodness. Next you're on a bus packed with explosives and obnoxious kids. What to do?!? Bartholomew J. Simpson, that's what. And finally, after years of vicious name-calling, Homer Simpson has decided to reconcile with his nemesis—his brain. See Homer change from bovine to Einstein, while all of Springfield reels from the repercussions.

Packed with the insane wit that has earned the TV show the Peabody Award and 10 Emmy Awards, Simpsons Comic on Parade is the perfect gift for the legions of loyal fans who just can't get enough of Marge, Homer, Lisa, Bart, and little Maggie.

A very good book that does credit to the series 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I have always thought the first series of Young Jedi Knights (Heirs of the Force, Shadow Academy, The Lost Ones, Lightsabers, Darkest Knight, and Jedi Under Siege) to be superior to this series (Shards of Alderaan, Diversity Alliance, Delusions of Granduer, Jedi Bounty, and The Emperor's Plague) simply because the foe was a little more interesting to me, and the characters seemed a bit better fleshed out. Now that I am older however, and reading these again for the first time in several years, I have more of an open mind and I realized that this second series is in fact very good, and, while it doesn't have as much action as the first series, the character development is superb. In this book Raynar's mother calls him to come home and be with her while his father is missing. He does and is accompanied by Jacen , Jaina, Tenel Ka, and Lowie who wish to keep him company and give him moral support while he gets settled but as you can propably guess, things do not go exacly as planned, and soon they are all off on an adventure to Kuar to try and discover where Raynar's father might have gone, with the absence of Raynar, who stays with his mother. Through epic battles with giant combat arachnids and assasin droids, they begin to discover that Raynar's father could be hiding for more reasons than his reputation, and that in fact there is a high probability that he is in fact hiding a secret that could destroy the galaxy... So anyway, this was a great book, though it would make more sense if you have already read all the previous books in the series, including the ones from the first series. One of the few things I don't really like that much about this series, is that everyone has to have someone else to "like". This gets incresingly annoying as the series goes on and the kids get older. And lets face it, Raaba's only purpose of existance is so Lowie will not be left out of all this. Zekk started out that way too, but luckily he now has his own place in the Star Wars world other than The Boy Jaina Likes, so I guess there is still hope. One of the good things is that it only goes as far as mild crushes and never all that boyfriend/girlfriend, breaking up and all that, so that is good thing, especially for someone like me who is not very big on romance at all, especially imature teen romance which seems to be so popular.

Editorial Review:

When a fellow Jedi student, who holds the key to a New Republic secret coalition, turns up missing, the young Jedi Knights race across the galaxy to find him and are forced to confront a deadly enemy. Original.
