PAINFUL TO FINISH 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I HAD THOROUGHLY ENJOYED READING THE FIRST TWELVE BOOKS OF THE STEPHANIE PLUM SERIES. NUMBER THIRTEEN WAS SO-SO, BUT THIS ONE WAS ACTUALLY SO BORING IT WAS PAINFUL TO FINISH. ALL THE CHARACTERS WERE FLAT. THERE WAS NO SIZZLE AND VERY FEW LAUGHS. I HOPE BETTER THINGS ARE TO COME...

Books 3 out of 5 stars.

I have read the entire Plum series and was looking forward to this one. Not as interesting as the past 13 but still a good read.

Another Plum 4 out of 5 stars.

if you have been around teenagers and their world at all you will love Plum 14. The language the ideas the strange characters made for an enjoyable read. For those who didn't like it... come on... you don't buy Stephanee Plum books for substance. Tons of the usual laughs in this book

Editorial Review:

In the fourteenth book in the series, the stakes are raised even higher as Stephanie Plum finds herself in her most dangerous, hilarious, hottest, chase yet. With her loveably offbeat family along for the ride (as well as a few new faces), it's clear to see why the Plum novels are called "Hot Stuff" by the New York Times and why Evanovich herself is called "the master."

Top Gun's a classic, but save some money & get it on DVD 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

One of my alltime favorite movies, I was hoping it would be worth having on Bluray, but as in most cases with films not just made there really is no big difference between the DVD & Bluray versions (at least, not so far as what I've come across).

The movie's a definite must have for any collection, but get it on DVD if you can find it cheaper.

Not much better than the original 3 out of 5 stars.

Top Gun was, and still is the benchmark for home theater viewing. I just recently updated my system with all high end components and new larger plasma screen tv.
Of course, the first thing I did was purchase Top Gun on Blue Ray. I guess since it was made so long ago, the video is somewhat limited as to how much better it could actually be. The audio is fantastic as ever.
Over all, there were a couple of spots where things seemed a bit clearer and made you feel more like you were actually part of it but over all, the upgrade from the original is marginal at best. Top Gun is still awesome, but the Blue Ray upgrade is just so so.

WOW 5 out of 5 stars.

I may be young but let me tell you that this book was probably the best book I have ever read in my life. It is written SO well and I love the little pieces of information that show what leads up to Peter doing what he did. I cried and cried SO much when I read because this book is so emotional and so much to take in. It is outstanding and I would be more than happy to read this book again.

Editorial Review:

Jodi Picoult, bestselling author of My Sister's Keeper and The Tenth Circle, pens her most riveting book yet, with a startling and poignant story about the devastating aftermath of a small-town tragedy.

Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens--until the day its complacency is shattered by an act of violence. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes--or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show--destroying the closest of friendships and families. Nineteen Minutes asks what it means to be different in our society, who has the right to judge someone else, and whether anyone is ever really who they seem to be.

Great Series for teens and up! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Betrayed is book 2 of the "House of Night" series. It is freshly written about teens that become marked to potentially become vampires. This is not your run of the mill series about vampires. It is more about teens who feel they don't fit in either at school or at home and have not had someone to help them realize their full potential in life. The metaphor of "the change" from human to vampire is subtle but easily grasped by teens that everyone has great potential even if they may not see it at a point in time of their life. The series is full of wonderful characters both good and evil and some who may have lived a life of evil and truly want to change if only someone showed them they could. There is great light comedy throughout and perfectly used when things get too serious. I would highly recommend this book for mothers and daughters to read and talk about. While it is completely entertaining you can't help but see the underlying messages which are all positive!

Editorial Review:

Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night.  She’s come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs--like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend…or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.

From J. Kaye's Book Blog 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

THE HOLLOW is the second in The Sign of Seven trilogy, BLOOD BROTHERS being the first. PEGAN STONE, the third, is scheduled to be out in December 2008.

By the second book, the reader pretty much knows what's going to happen. Surprise isn't the author's strong point as her novels, at least not in the ones I've read. Her books are character driven. The reader becomes emotionally invested, very much like soap opera fans do. I found myself wanting to talk to my husband about the characters as though each were real.

In my opinion, it's best to start at the beginning of her trilogies with the first book and not jump around. In the first book, three young boys unknowingly set a demon free, but left each with a special ability. From then on, every seven years, this demon plaques the small Maryland town for seven days. The plot isn't anything new or special, and still, I found myself loving this book just as much as the first.

The first book sets up the story up nicely. The second plants the six main characters - Caleb, Fox, Gage, Quinn, Layla and Cybil - deeper into the story as they realize they'll be the key to defeating this demon - or die trying. Both the first and second books have left me wanting to know more. And I am looking forward to December for the final installment of this trilogy!

I must end this on a negative note. My complaint has nothing to do with the author or the book, but with the narrator, Marie Caliendo. Her high-pitched screeches when speaking as Quinn and Layla actually caused me to dislike the characters. Please keep in mind, these are the same characters as in the first book. If Marie Caliendo had been the narrator for the first book, I wouldn't have continued on with the trilogy. Having listened to so many audios, this was the first problem I'd had with a reader. When her voice elevated, it sounded more like a screech. Horrible - seriously horrible.

Great addition to the series 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was a little hesitant to read this because the first two books in this series are among my favorite books. So I was happy to find that the story fit in with the first two but also held its own. Every Now and Then is about Alex Brady, a police officer in California that gave up dreams of being in the FDNY after his father died in the Twin Towers. He has locked the world out, trying to get bad guys off the streets before they can hurt people and leave other families with the pain he felt as a teenager. So his world consists of his K9 partner Bo and doing the best he can at his job. Sergeant Clay Michaels is Alex's supervisor and invites him over to dinner regularly, and Alex accepts every invitation so he won't lose touch with the emotion that drives him to succeed. Alex finds a lot more when Clay and Jamie decide to show him what life can be like when you know where your meaning comes from.

Editorial Review:

A gripping story of danger and heroism by New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury. Sheriff’s deputy Alex Brady and his K-9 partner Bo, are on a mission to protect the people of Los Angeles. Domestic terrorists are trying to make this the worst fire season in California’s history. Can Alex stop this senseless destruction in time, or will he lose himself in the process?

Thankfully, not all teens are like this one 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

To the book's credit, it did keep my attention, and parts of it were pretty funny. This isn't a poorly written book by any stretch of the imagination. My problem stems from the fact that you have to deal with the spoiled complaining of a teen who probably didn't get beat up enough in school. I understand the awkwardness of being a teen, but a couple hundred pages of listening to a jerk complain about "phonies" was more than enough for me.

Make a little time for a classic 4 out of 5 stars.

So I've been on a "classic book" kick, deciding that with all of the reading I do, I should try to work in more well-known literary novels. The ones I should have been reading in HS or college. Catcher in the Rye was on my list this month.

Interesting book...although not my favorite of all the "classics" I've read, it definitely left an impression. Amazing descriptives and it really puts you in the mindset of Holden Caulfield. And you might be shocked at what you feel/think about. It's easy to slip into this character and get lost in how he is feeling and who he is and what he's dealing with. A close look at a hard life. For those merits alone it's worthy of a Pulitzer in my opinion. (Although it notoriously did not win one.)

It's an easy read, nothing to be intimidated by, and it's short at only 250 pages. What do you have to lose? I'd recommend it.

Editorial Review:

Holden, knowing he is to be expelled from school, decides to leave early. He spends three days in New York City and tells the story of what he did and suffered there.
