Miss Spider's Tea Party 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Our daughter was enjoying the game until the ant maze. She became so upset and started crying when the ant frantically states it was lost and was going to be late for the party. This game was not very encouraging.
I would not recommend this game if you have a child who likes more positive reinforcement than, oh no I am lost or going to be late ( and in their interpretation it is all because of them.)

Miss Spider's Tea Party 4 out of 5 stars.

Very cute story. I bought my niece the Fisher-Price tea party set and bought this book to go with it. The story is short but the pictures are adorable and very colorful. I would recommend this book. My niece is 1 1/2, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over 3.

Editorial Review:

"Miss Spider can't understand why insects flee in panic at her approach. Being a florivore herself, she only wants to invite them over for cakes and tea. The ironic air wafting through Kirk's rhymed tale will not be lost on young readers, and the insects in the big, brightly colored illustrations beear comically apprehensive expressions as they hastily depart . . . At last, Miss Spider is able to convince a rain-soaked moth of her good intentions . . . A sweet tale" --School Library Journal

Editorial Review:

When she's not having tea parties or zooming around in her new car, David Kirk's colorful Miss Spider helps kids learn their ABCs and even how to count. This set of three Miss Spider board books--Miss Spider's ABC, Miss Spider's New Car, and Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book--comes in a handy cardboard carrying case with a red plastic handle. If you're looking for the rich, rhyming language of Miss Spider's New Car, you should stick with the original hardcover, for the board book edition of this and of Miss Spider's Tea Party have been abbreviated and modified as smaller books for smaller hands. In Miss Spider's ABC, the heftiest board book of the bunch with all 26 letters of the alphabet, Miss Spider's friends prepare for her giant surprise birthday party: "Bumblebees blow balloons.... Earthworms entertain.... Fireflies fandango.... Moths mingle.... Owlflies ogle." Kirk's action-packed illustrations are crisp and luminous--crawling with comically anthropomorphized bugs jumping and laughing and mingling. A fine introduction to the world of Miss Spider for the younger set. (Baby to preschool) --Karin Snelson

Best Attention getting rhythm and color 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 16 month old and I go to the library and get books quite often. When I read this book to her she loved it. It is hard to tell who loved it more though, my daughter or me. The colors are vibrant and the rhyme has a nice rhythm. I did not mind reading it several times a day.

Editorial Review:

It's Christmas Eve and Miss Spider should be feeling full of cheer. But even in her cozy home, among wrapped gifts and the brightly decorated tree, there's something missing. It isn't until Miss Spider finds a friend with whom to share the joy of the season that her one Christmas wish comes true.

David Kirk's much-loved Little Miss Spider (Little Miss Spider, Little Miss Spider at Sunnypatch School, etc.) continues to warm the hearts of her fans in this touching, jolly holiday tale. Young readers will enjoy the image of Miss Spider and her new friend Asparagus Beetle making "snow butterflies" (like our snow angels, but made with lots more legs) and dashing through snow tunnels "mined by the mice." Kirk's startling and shiny illustrations complement his singsong verses to present this tender Christmas message of compassion and friendship. (Ages 4 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

David Kirk's in-your-face, electrically charged illustrations will excite any young reader grappling with the challenges of the alphabet. From ants to the zebra butterfly, Miss Spider's friends prepare for her giant surprise birthday party: "Bumblebees blow balloons.... Earthworms entertain.... Fireflies fandango.... Moths mingle.... Owlflies ogle." This visually arresting alphabet throws open the doors of imagination, inviting children to learn their letters, insects, and colors in one fabulous package. It's hard to believe an alphabet book could actually tell a story, but this one succeeds, splendidly. Emotions play on the faces of Miss Spider and her friends, telling of anticipation, excitement, and joy. Fans of Kirk's other bestselling Miss Spider books (Miss Spider's Tea Party, Miss Spider's Wedding, and Miss Spider's New Car) will gleefully welcome Miss Spider's ABC. (Click to see a sample spread. Off to Bed and Up the Web! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

"Bedtime Story" is another "Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends" book adaptation and it's another sweet one. In this one, Miss Spider and Holleys' little buglets are having trouble getting to bed on time. Miss Spider and Holley create a wishing web and if the kids can get to the top, then they get to participate in "Compost Day" --- a day of fun activities. The kids, though, find that while they can get to bed on time, their parents are staying up late. So Miss spider and Holley are added to the wishing web.

This nice Miss Spider story will help kids get to bed on time. Enjoyable for anyone who's a fan of this group of bugs.

Editorial Review:

Bedtime in the Spider house has gone buggy! No matter how hard they try, Miss Spider and Holley just can’t seem to get their nighttime routine under control. Luckily, their little bugs step in to save the day, and Miss Spider and Holley finally get some much-needed sleep!

The BEST Miss Spider Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

My 4 year old wants me to read this book EVERY night. She's memorized almost all the words and LOVES to finish the rhymes. Squirt learns he can pursue a noble goal - finding the mother of the egg - through lots of dangers. Parents are reassured that they ARE teaching their children to be "brave and good". One of my favorite books... I'll be setting it aside in my kids' "memory boxes" for them to read to their children, and I'm buying more copies for Christmas gifts this year.

Editorial Review:

Everyone's favorite eight-legged charmer is back! And she's beginning an exciting new chapter in her life --- having babies! Like all new parents-to-be, Miss Spider and Holly worry. "Do babies bite? Do they need sun? Why do they wiggle so?!" Most of all they worry, "Will we be good parents?" But not to fear. When their ten little egglings hatch and there are eight booties knitted just in time for every one, Miss Spider and Holly discover that love at the heart of a family turns worries into bundles of joy. All ten of them!

Beautiful Artwork 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book has some of the most beautiful artwork you will ever see in a children's book. My 17 month old took a few tries to warm up to the story, and it still isn't a favorite of hers. A lot of times we will just sit and look at the pretty pictures.

A great book for babies! 5 out of 5 stars.

My 6 month old has liked this book since he was 4 months old. Now his face lights up with a big smile when I pull it out. Sometimes he even starts to fuss when I put it away! The illustrations are just so vibrant and colorful that he's mesmerized by it. I really really wish I could find more books like this. I've looked everywhere! This is definitely a best buy for parents who want to start reading to baby at an early age.

Better than I expected it to be. 3 out of 5 stars.

My 13 month old *LOVES* Miss Spider, and I was getting really sick of Miss Spider's New Car (which is a great book, don't get me wrong, I was just tired of reading it 3x/night.) I went looking for the original Miss Spider's Tea Party in board book format (which you can't find, why is that?) and stumbled across this one and the ABC one. He likes both of them, I slightly prefer this one because frankly it's shorter. The artwork is still the classic David Kirk Miss Spider traditional stuff, not the computer-animated from the TV series stuff. And if you know the original Tea Party story, it's an abbreviated version of that, so it's kind of fun to see where they go with it for the Counting. So all in all, a decent alternative.

Editorial Review:

A sturdy board book edition enables young readers to count to twelve with Miss Spider as she looks for insect friends to play with, in an early reader's counting book that features bold illustrations and adapted, simplified text.

A Lyrical Bedtime Story that Helps Ease Night Time Fears 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Listening Walk is a bedtime story written especially for children who have fears of the dark and are made uneasy by sounds they hear at night. Miss Spider, from the popular TV series, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends, takes her son, Wiggle, on a night walk outside. She shows him that the things that seem scary to him, really are not that scary at all.

David Kirk's soothing rhythmic verse and vivid digital illustrations make this an excellent bedtime story, even for kids who are not afraid of the dark.

My two-year-old son really likes this book. He asks me to read it nearly every night.

Editorial Review:

What to do when the bugaboos strike? Miss Spider has the perfect solution—she takes her bashful son Wiggle on a moonlit walk to put faces to the spooky sounds he hears throughout the night. Join them as they discover that nightlife in Sunny Patch is filled with beautiful surprises. Written in the charming verse only David Kirk can deliver and illustrated in amazing 3-D CGI detail, The Listening Walk is sure to be a favorite with all children.

Editorial Review:

How did the beloved Miss Spider begin her life as a spiderling? In this engaging prequel to David Kirk's Miss Spider books, the spider starlet herself has just popped out of her egg and is wondering where her mother could be.

"Did she squeeze down a hole?
Or dive underwater?
Why won't she come out here
And meet her new daughter?"
Little Miss Spider's plaintive cries are heard by a passing beetle, who offers her kind assistance. The search continues, and suddenly our heroine finds herself in harrowing danger. Will the one who loves her best save her in time?

Each book in Kirk's bestselling series, including Miss Spider's ABC and Miss Spider's New Car, explodes with brilliant, glossy color and charming personality. His shiny close-up oil paintings catch young readers like insects in a web (but with much happier results). Adopted children and those in nontraditional families may take extra pleasure in the message this flashback story proffers: your mother is the creature who loves you best--whomever that may be. Editorial Review:

Sunny Patch School
Was the best place to go
To study the lessons
All bugs ought to know.
When the first day of school arrives, Little Miss Spider is almost beside herself with excitement. She gobbles her breakfast ("a fresh flower plate") and runs all the way to Sunny Patch School. But poor Miss Spider is in for a day of frustration. She can't seem to master the new lessons: dung digging, leaf drilling, stinging, or flying. As the day draws to a close, Miss Spider bemoans her lack of skills. Isn't there anything she can do well? We are all soon to find out...

David Kirk's bestselling Miss Spider series, including Miss Spider's Tea Party and Miss Spider's New Car, blasts the reader with brilliant splashes of color and quirky, bug-eyed (no, really!) insect characters. In this second adventure of the spinoff Little Miss Spider series, Kirk's droll verses harmonize with the shiny, eye-catching paintings for a heartwarming tale, sure to be a favorite with Miss Spider's ever-increasing entourage of fans--especially those getting ready for their first day of school!
