educational sources for practical trading purposes 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I have not seen any book that describes its domain with such generous detail and is geared for real life trading. The contents may not be enough for those who trade only financial energy instruments, but it is indeed a good course material for the market makers, and hedgers, namely end users and producers. I highly recommend this book to those who are involved in natural gas industry.

A Great Book to Learn Natural Gas Trading 5 out of 5 stars.

Even if you do not have a solid understanding of derivatives, this book is really good explaining step by step how the different derivatives are used for hedging natural gas; regardless if you are the producer, trader, or end user. The author gives many examples of how each derivative works. I highly recommend this book if you are starting out as a junior trader, risk products trader, supply planner, etc.

Editorial Review:

This massively updated and expanded fifth edition is the most complete, authoritative engineering treatment of the dehydration and gas purification processes used in industry today. Of great value to design and operations engineers, it gives practical process and equipment design descriptions, basic data, plant performance results, and other detailed information on gas purification processes and hardware. This latest edition incorporates all significant advances in the field since 1985.

You will find major new chapters on the rapidly expanding technologies of nitrogen oxide control, with discussions of regulatory requirements and available processes; absorption in physical solvents, covering single component and mixed solvent systems; and membrane permeation, with emphasis on the gas purification applications of membrane units. In addition, new sections cover areas of strong current interest, particularly liquid hydrocarbon treating, Claus plant tail gas treating, thermal oxidation of volatile organic compounds, and sulfur scavenging processes.

This volume brings you expanded coverage of alkanolamines for hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide removal, the removal and use of ammonia in gas purification, the use of alkaline salt solutions for acid gas removal, and the use of water to absorb gas impurities. The basic technologies and all significant advances in the following areas are thoroughly described: sulfur dioxide removal and recovery processes, processes for converting hydrogen sulfide to sulfur, liquid phase oxidation processes for hydrogen sulfide removal, the absorption of water vapor by dehydrating solutions, gas dehydration and purification by adsorption, and the catalytic and thermal conversion of gas impurities.

The market for LNG. 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is a quality survey of the tactical issues in the market for LNG. And how this important and evolving energy market not only operates but impacts the very communities and regions where it is located. The author describes in graphic detail not only the market dynamics of the commodity itself but the immediate tactical realities of LNG ranging from transfer operations to operating and proposed regas terminals including the vital role of oversight by the U.S. Coast Guard.
This book is hard to put down. The writing is clear the graphics and photos are accuate and clearly enhance the discussion. But there are some missing points however, I think could have been added. The first is a description of the LNG market itself and more specifically how speculation on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) has directly impacted the LNG market and how this powerful market force has ultimately created the volatility and dangers that characterize LNG including most of the issues surrounding the use of LNG as energy policy. The author does a great job in describing the facilitating commerce role of the U.S. Coast Guard, but for whatever reason does not discuss much detail about the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) agencies which have had numerous hearings and dockets concerning LNG and its role in the marketplace.

Editorial Review:

36til recently, natural gas has not been in the limelight, but that situation is changing fast. Complex issues of energy use and safety are being brought down to in my backyard context for millions of Americans. This book provides balanced information about LNG so people can make informed decisions about whether they want to be neighbors of an LNG facility.

Editorial Review:

Well Testing is recognised by many operating oil and gas companies to be the most hazardous operation they routinely undertake. Therefore, it is of great importance that such operations are extremely well planned and executed.

This handbook covers all the major "Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing" and uses a structured approach to guide the reader through the steps required to safely and effectively plan a well test operation under just about any circumstances world wide.

Safety procedures and well testing recommended practices are rigorously addressed in this book, as are the responsibilities of those persons involved in well testing operations.

Perforating equipment, drill stem test equipment and bottom hole pressure gauges are discussed in detail in the book. There is also a very valuable section on sub sea equipment, an area often not well understood even by experienced engineers who may have been primarily involved with land or jackup rigs.

A major part of the book is the detailed coverage of the equipment and instrumentation that makes up a surface well testing package. It also covers operational and testing related problems such as, hydrates, wax and sand, and offers the reader some possible solutions.

There are useful chapters on sampling, onsite chemistry, coil tubing and nitrogen operations and basic stimulation as they relate to well testing.

Finally there is an extensive section of appendices covering useful engineering calculations and there is a complete example of a detailed well testing programme.

An excellent review of gas hydrates! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book is a welcome addition to my library. It provides a useful introduction to the subject of gas hydrates. I especially like the discussion of the tools for predicting hydrate formation. The discussion on combatting hydrates is also very useful. I recommend this book to all engineers working in the natural gas business.

Editorial Review:

This is the most exhaustive study to date on natural gas hydrates. In spite of their importance, hydrates are misunderstood, and misconceptions abound. This book provides an accurate review of what hydrates are and under what conditions they will form, and it provides the engineer with the methods to predict the occurrences of hydrates.

The petroleum industry spends millions every year to combat the formation of hydrates, the solid, crystalline compounds that form from water and small molecules, damaging equipment and plugging transmission lines. Understanding how, when, and where they form and using this knowledge to apply remedies in practical applications are crucial.

The most comprehensive study of natural gas hydrates

A manual for the engineer or textbook for the student

Contains cutting-edge solutions to natural gas hydrate problems
