Editorial Review:

The newest original screenplay from the Oscar®-nominated writer of Adaptation and Being John Malkovich—the only book on his new film starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Wilkinson, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo. In the new Charlie Kaufman film directed by Michel Gondry, Joel (Jim Carrey) is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover their earlier passion. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. As Dr. Mierzwiak and his crew (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) chase him through the maze of his memories, it's clear that Joel just can't get her out of his head.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: The Shooting Script includes the complete screenplay, a selection of black-and-white movie stills, selected production notes, and complete cast and crew credits. 20 b/w photos.

Amazing reference! May leave you a soulless husk if you read it all the way through... 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book when I was hired to AC for a project on equipment I had never worked with before. For one of those, "Holly crap! I agreed to do a job I only know how to do part of!" moments, this book is great. Every question I could think of was answered thoroughly and I mean THOROUGHLY. If you want to learn exactly what the responsibilities of an Assistant Camera Person are and how best to execute them read this book! If you are a working AC and want an easy to read, text-book style reference this is it.

Editorial Review:

* A new opening chapter which covers the basics of cinematography * Complete checklists for camera equipment, filters and expendables * New section containing useful tables including footage-to-time and time-to-footage conversions * New section containing many illustrations of the currently used professional 16mm and 35mm camera systems and magazines. The Camera Assistant's Manual, Second Edition, is essential reading not only for the beginner but also for the experienced camera assistant. For the beginner, it contains complete descriptions of all aspects of the jobs of first and second assistant cameraman, as well as a new chapter on the basics of cinematography. For the experienced camera assistant, it continues to be a complete reference source dealing with all aspects of the job.

for people who are new to DSLR and A200 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

As a person who is learning DSLR photography with his new Sony Alpha A200, I decided to buy some books, one of which is Magic Lantern Guides. I didn't know what to expect because there was not much information about this book online, and I haven't owned a book from this series before either.

The book is in Black&White, size of a thick booklet that you would expect to get with any fairly complicated electronic. It will help you understand the every feature the A200 has. It is kind of an expended version of the original Instruction Manual with more words and examples. I wish Sony included this book with the camera.

On the other hand, if you already know some SLR photography, or own other DSLR books, this book may feel too repetitive since many concepts explained in the book apply to any SLR usage in general. In other words this book may not add too much to your knowledge.

If you are new to DSLR, you bought your A200 recently, and if you wish the Instruction Manual was much more descriptive, then this book is for you.

Chapters:
Understanding Digital Photography
Features and Functions
Digital Recording and In-camera Processing
The Menus
Camera and Shooting Operations
Flash Photography
Lenses and Accessories
Working with Images
Troubleshooting

Editorial Review:

Sony has something for beginning photographers, or those just going digital: an excellent entry-level D-SLR with a 10.2MP sensor, High ISO sensitivity range to 3200, and High ISO Noise Reduction technology. The 40-segment honeycomb, with its spot and center-weighted metering systems, offers outstanding exposure accuracy. And the Super SteadyShot® image stabilization systems increase a novice’s ability to achieve quality photos. Newcomers eager to master all the basics, and make the most of their new equipment, will find both the Magic Lantern Guides and the DVD Guide essential components of their photography kit.

The best beginners book out there 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the simplest, and best books I've ever seen for beginner filmmakers. It is able to very clearly explain complicated concepts, without writing any more than necessary. It's a very slender book, and a very quick read, and well worth your time.

Excellent Resource 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Unlike many training books The Bare Bones Camera Course for Film and Video does not attempt to suggest what camera you should buy, nor does it tell you how to shoot Aunt Alice's 80th birthday party. This book, in its 89 pages, is a beautiful example of a subject that has been pared down to the essential information needed to learn it----and the subject is how to operate your video camera to get the best images you can.

The book's table of contents lists eight sections:

· Basics (such as camera functions, lenses, depth of field)
· Composition
· Basic Sequence
· Screen Direction
· Camera Moves
· Montages
· Lighting
· Doing It (how to plan for a shoot)

Each section is covered concisely, and there are over 200 simple, but effective, black and white line art illustrations to accompany the topic being discussed. This book is perfect for the person who wants to concentrate on improving their video camera operating skills.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Keepsake 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Lots of information about Audrey Hepburn, a great addition to anyone's collection. Loved all of the pictures and interesting facts I couldn't find about Audrey. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who still adores the legendary "Rat Pack Princess" Ms. Hepburn. Her memory will always live on in this book.

Editorial Review:

Truman Capote suggested Marilyn Monroe for the lead role in the film version of his 1958 bestseller novel Breakfast at Tiffany's. Yet even she felt the role was too indecent. Director Blake Edwards chose boyish, well brought-up Audrey Hepburn, and she played New York playgirl Holly Golightly so successfully that Breakfast at Tiffany's became a cult film and the lead actress an icon of the 1960s.

During the filming Howell Conant took publicity shots on set: Holly Golightly loveably wicked with her indispensable cigarette holder, glamorous in her Givenchy dress in the midst of the party, dreamy-melancholy when singing the Oscar-winning "Moon River" at night on the fire escape.

Further photo sessions followed for Life, Look and Paris Match, fashion shots in the Swiss Alps, a portrait series with hats, and photos on the set of Together in Paris (1962) and Wait until Dark (1967).

Nathanial Dorsky professionally is the "edit doctor" who has rescued many a film from its creator. Here he distills decades of the practice of his art to a short, crystalline essay. Essential reading for students and lovers of film.

An aesthetic jewel of writing 5 out of 5 stars.

There are rare occasions

reading about art

when one is just plain dazzled and enlightened from.

This little book exemplifies that.

& I dare say the exquisite insights enclosed

This is a sublime little book.

Take a chance & procure !

As profound and moving as his films 5 out of 5 stars.

Devotional Cinema is a how-to book for the soul of filmmaking. Would be appreciated by anyone who loves film, makes film, cares about film as an artform. A prose poem on the act of seeing and making.
