Not your usual Paris sights 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A friend gave us this book before we left for a month's visit to Paris. We had been there, done that three times before, so we welcomed a guide to the kinds of places we had overlooked on previous visits. This book accomplished that. We visited more than half of the places and enjoyed almost all of them immensely.

Great little Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I have been to Paris many times so I have seen the major sights and want to some lesser sights for my next trip. This book recommends many of these type of sights with good descriptions. I will take and use the guide on my next trip

Editorial Review:

More than eighty of the loveliest, most tranquil, and sometimes hidden places in Paris are celebrated in this charming guidebook

Quiet Corners of Paris is a beautifully illustrated peek into eighty-one often overlooked, always beautiful, locales: hidden villas, winding lanes, little-known 19th-century passages, serene gardens, and cobblestone courtyards. Some of the places have breathtaking views, others are filled with historic and architectural details, from stone archways, garden follies, boxwood mazes, ornamental statuary, stained glass, and Renaissance fountains. Follow a stone path under a trellis of blossoms or wander through a gate to discoverÉ

Editorial Review:

ANSEL ADAMS: 400 PHOTOGRAPHS presents the full spectrum Adams' greatest work in a single volume for the first time, offering an entirely new perspective on his monumental career..
The photographs are arranged chronologically into five major periods in order to convey Adams' development as an artist-from his first photographs made in Yosemite and the High Sierra in 1916 to his work in the National Parks in the 1940s up to his last important photographs from the 1960s. An introduction and brief essays on selected images provide information about Adams' life, document the evolution of his technique, and give voice to his artistic vision.
Few artists of any era can claim to have produced four hundred images of lasting beauty and significance. It is a testament to Adams' vision and a lifetime of hard work that a book of this scale can be justified. ANSEL ADAMS: 400 PHOTOGRAPHS is a must-have reference and gift book for anyone who appreciates photography and the allure of the natural world.

one of three to own 5 out of 5 stars.

I own a few Shaw, ( Nature Photography field guide) Mammoser,(The Photographer's guide to the Colorado Rockies)and (Digital Photography for Dummies) by David Busch who also has written specific guides for cameras. The three make up a complete library . Tharps book is like attending an advanced photo workshop, Concepts rather then specifics are taught . She really explains for example Light, how to use it .Chapter 10 on self evaluation is worth the price of the read. My only regret is not having a digital specific section.,

John Shaw Nature Photography review 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I considered this an excellent book. It was written a few years back and had it's major emphasis on film photography. However, virtually all of the material is applicable for todays state of the art digital photography.

Editorial Review:

An updated bestseller, this book of extraordinarily beautiful photographs of nature contains state-of-the-art instruction on how any photographer can aim for equally impressive results every time a camera is focused on the great outdoors. Even highly skilled photographers are often baffled by the problems facing them when they work outdoors. But with this exceptional field guide in hand, every photographer-beginner, serious amateur, semi-pro, and pro-can conquer the problems encountered in the field. Using his own exceptional work as examples, the author discusses each type of nature subject and how to approach photographing it. Specific advice and information cover selection of equipment and lenses; how to compose a shot; how to get close ups; and other tips covering a range of techniques to enrich various types of nature photographs.

The photos in this book are absolutely amazing. Mr. Zuckerman truly captured the personality of each animal. In looking at these pictures, I almost felt like I was having a conversation with each individual. This book is a beautiful work of art!

Creature 5 out of 5 stars.

The book was created to show the elegancy and wonder of the animals in our world. The pictures are clear and very close up to capture the beaty of the animal. The creator of this pictorial has done an excellent job. I am very pleased with the book.

Editorial Review:

Amazon Best of the Month, December 2007: December seems to be the classic month to celebrate the coffee-table book--those oversized tomes that sit out on display, easily enticing anyone within arm's reach to flip through the pages. One of my favorites of the season--and one you'll want to keep out all year long--is Andrew Zuckerman's Creature, a photographic safari of astounding studio shots of an ark's worth of animals, ready for their close-ups against a stark white backdrop. Mesmerizing, inspiring, and ultimately very, very cool. Badgers, fruit bats, and bald eagles never looked so good. --Brad Thomas Parsons

Beautiful 5 out of 5 stars.

This calendar is huge, but what better way to enjoy some of the most wonderful photographs of the West?

I use it as a keepsake calendar for my wedding planning. Yes, I was looking for something with pretty pictures, but these photos are timeless, captivating, and finely detailed.

Definitely the most beautiful calendar I have seen.

Editorial Review:

The latest edition of the Ansel Adams wall calendar reproduces, in impeccably printed duotone, thirteen breathtaking images by the master photographer, chosen to reflect the changing seasons. With a mix of well-known and less familiar photographs of the American West, this splendid calendar will delight loyal fans of the previous twenty-four calendars, as well as attract new buyers.
