It's pretty good, in fact, not too bad 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

It does give info on all species of pokemon, and it's new and up to date. It has all the new pokemon from diamond and pearl. The only reason why it did not get 5 stars is because they could have given a little more information, such as what level pokemon evolve into what, where you can find it in the games, and what national dex number. But it is a good handbook nonetheless, it is just like the national pokedex on paper! very informational along with colorful pictures and large, fun to read text. good for kids who like pokemon

Gotta catch 'em ALL! 5 out of 5 stars.

Allrightythen...first things first. For those parents who might still not be in the know, Pokemon is Nintendo's blockbuster videogame/TV series/movie/book/toy mega-multimedia franchise. Debuting in the mid-90's, Pokemon (short for Pocket Monsters) has become one of the most thoroughly developed and complex alternate-reality worlds in multimedia gaming. Both of my kids (ages 7 and 12) can't get enough Pokemon, so when my son saw this guidebook at his elementary school's book fair, it was a no-brainer purchase.

What you get here is basically a print version of the National Pokedex, a running index of each and every known Pokemon. An online version can be accessed on the official Pokemon website. This book carries more detail than the online version, though, so it's very handy to have. The Pokemon are listed in alphabetical order, and you get a great amount of detail on each character, including possible moves, weights, heights, regions found in, and so forth. All of the listings are accompanied by full-color illustrations and as a bonus you also get the evolution paths for each Pokemon, making for easy cross-reference. Might have been nice to have a master index in the back of the book that gave page listings, but the alphabetical ordering makes it pretty easy to find specific characters without too much trouble.

All I can say is that I can't recommend it enough if you have kids that are into the Pokemon phenomenon. It's way worth the 10-spot IMO.

Editorial Review:

Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. Ash's Pokemon journey has taken him through some incredible regions, and now they're all in one book! This deluxe handbook includes facts & figures for every Pokemon ever. That's over 480 entries--packed with inside info and special tips. It's truly the ultimate guide for every Pokemon fan.

Awesome gift for the 7-12 year old Pokemon fan in your life! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have purchased at least 5 of these books and have given them as gifts to my children and their friends (ages 7-11). The instructions are easy to follow, the drawings are very authentic and kids love that they can draw some of their favorite characters. The ONLY down side, is that I wish it had a greater number of characters to draw. However, IMO it was a real steal for less than $5. All the children we've purchased these for have loved them. I keep an extra one just in case I've forgotten a birthday. You might want to buy an extra one too!

My 4 & 6 year old boys are huge Pokemon fans and loved this book. They devised their own games for finding their favorite Pokemon.

Wow, I'm surprised this is still in print! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I got this book what must have been ten years ago now (Dang, I was six! Time flies) and I absolutely adored it!

The illustrations, from what I can remember, were very good and in some cases very funny. In the humorous sort of way.

Each page was challenging for me, but not so hard that I'd throw a fit.

I think my old copy is somewhere in my attic, I've been meaning to pull it out for my younger brother, but now I don't have to. =)

Note, though, that this book was made before any newer Pokemon were created, before the release of the Gold/Silver versions of the Pokemon games. Only the original 151 Pokemon are in this one, some of which I don't think are even in the newer games.

It's not just a Pokedex... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

WOW! This is the best guide for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl by FAR! It's not just a Pokedex, but rather much more! It not only contains information on 490 Pokemon, (Yes, 490, unfortunatly it lacks total information on Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus) but it also has CRUCIAL information about what to do after you've beaten the Pokemon League. Up to that point, it's all easy, just go along with the story. BUT once you've beaten the Pokemon League, everything in the game suddenly becomes unclear. You might KNOW there's more legendaries to catch, but you might not know where. (For Example, I had not the First Clue about going to Turnback Cave for Giratina, but when I got the guide, It led me straight there!) You might KNOW about the Battle Tower, but not who the Tower Tycoon is and when you battle him. You might KNOW about Cresselia and Fullmoon Island, but not how to get there or what to do once you've seen Cresselia. You might KNOW about Pokemon, but not at what exact level they evolve, or what exact level they learn a specific move, or if they learn it at all. All this is CRUCIAL information that you will find EXCLUSIVELY in this guide. And that's not it, either. In case you don't know which region a Pokemon is from, there is a Table of Contents in Alphabetical order at the VERY BEGINNING, making it extremely easy to find pokemon. Also, a 2 page map containing all of Sinnoh as well as the names of all the cities and places of interest. Also tells you all of the items you may find in a certain place, AND information on EVERY ROUTE AND CAVE about things you can do there BEFORE AND AFTER beating the Pokemon League, again, more CRUCIAL information EXCLUSIVE to this guide. And again, there's more-you can find information on EVERY HM and TM in the back of this book, as well as all the contest moves, items, where to get every TM, where to get each item, and a Pokemon Weakness easy look-up chart with the weaknesses AND RESISTANCES of all 490 pokemon, (yes, remember? 490...Arceus, Darkrai, and Shaymin were unknown when this guide was released) and information about where to capture any Pokemon in the Pal Park, with a detailed map of it, and how rare they will be, aka how much time it will take to catch them, prizes at the Pal Park, etc. ALL CRUCIAL INFORMATION. Also tells you where to catch ANY pokemon in the game, (as long as you CAN catch it) INCLUDING what route for Pokeradar, and descriptions to every pokemon from both Diamond and Pearl. Also a comparison of the few pokemon you can't catch in Diamond, and of the few you can't catch in pearl, as well as the list of the 50 pokemon you can not catch in Sinnoh at all, (Previous starters and legendaries, event pokemon, with a FEW unexpected ones; Tropius and Tangela...) a berrydex, all pokemon abilities and what they do, pokemon personalities, natures, what wild pokemon hold what item, A TON of information on the Underground, and that's just the Pokemon Data Lookup section of the book! There's still the Capture Guide, which is about 2 times as thick, and the Post-Game Scenario! This book is a MUST For Diamond and Pearl Fans!

Editorial Review:

* Fully details all 482 + available Pokemon. Providing stats, levels, learned moves, and more.
* Exclusive Poster - The Pokédex will include an exclusive poster for fans.
* Strategy Included - In addition to complete information for each individual Pokémon, this guide will include strategy for keeping, collecting, and raising the creatures in your collection.

A big hit with my Nephew!! 5 out of 5 stars.

My children and my nephew are really into Pokemon right now. This was a BIG hit with my nephew at his 6th birthday party. I will say he is already a little artist which is what inpsired me to buy this particular item. I think any child who likes Pokemon would enjoy it if they like to draw, doodle, color, et.

Do you Love pokemon? 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

If your child loves Pokemon they will love this book. Very useful to read information on or see pictures of Pokemon.

Kids like it 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I was hesitant to buy it because of some reviews. Yes, the activities are a little easy and yes the book is very thin, however, for an airplane ride or nice restaurant visit, it was simply fantastic. My kids love Pokemon and would love any product really, but even though the book is filled up, they use it to learn how to draw still so it definitely wasnt a waste....on the contrary.

Bought for Grandson 5 out of 5 stars.

Bought the Pokemon Guide Book for my Grandson's 8 year birthday. He loved it. The book is a nice size for a child. It is colorful. It is at a child's reading level and has quite a lot of information on the Pokemon cards. Grandma is learning quite a bit about the Pokemon characters.

My 6-year-old loves it! 5 out of 5 stars.

I was impressed by how well my 6-year-old was able to draw using this book as a guide.

I bought this book for my 8 year old son who is really in to collecting Pokemon cards. I got him the book to get him more interested in reading. The book is not very long but it kept his interest and helped me in my continuing efforts to have my son enjoy reading.

A Reluctant Reader's Favorite Read 5 out of 5 stars.

My son is eight years old and often doesn't have the patience to read. Of course I want him to read so finding books that are interesting to him can be a challenge. My son loves Pokemon so I figured I would give this book a try.

Well, the book came in and I gave it to my son, very excited about my surprise for him. He looked at it briefly and told me thanks, and then told me it was about his least favorite team, Team Rocket.

Later in the day he picked the book up again and proceeded to read the whole book straight through. It is not a big book, but he loved it and spent time reading, which was my goal. When I later asked about the book, he said it was one of his favorites, along with the Captain Underpants books. I hope your child loves it too!
