Editorial Review:

Disciplining children is arguably one of the hardest skills for parents to learn. As a parent herself, Elizabeth Pantley knows what a challenge it is to establish good discipline, and she shares the hard-won wisdom of her experience with parents in this latest edition to her revolutionary "no-cry" approach to parenting. In this case, we have no doubt she's saving parents from tears, too! Elizabeth Pantley's approach to this age-old problem is unique because she doesn't rely on old discipline models that often make parents feel like the bad guy. Instead, she gives parents the communication tools they need to stop bad behavior in its tracks and gain a deeper understanding of what triggers a child to act out. Any parent will appreciate the focus on love and nurturing in this wholly practical and much-needed addition to the child care shelf.

A Special Message from Elizabeth Pantley to Amazon.com Readers
As a mom of four, two boys and two girls, I know that raising children is a unique experience every day. Our children bring us a level of joy, and a depth of love, that nothing else in our history has prepared us for. They change us as human beings, and we can never go back to who we were before they entered our lives.

We love our children intensely, yet every day life with them can be challenging, frustrating and exhausting. All day, every day, there are so many things we must get our children to do--or stop from doing. Beginning with getting them out of bed in the morning, and ending with putting them to bed at night (and often, not even then), our job involves an incredible amount of organization, guidance, direction and connection. And all that requires a brilliance and stamina that we never knew we possessed, but somehow must find.

I spend my time surrounded by parents, children and families. I've worked with hundreds of "Test Parents" from all over the world during my book writing process. And of course, I have my very own "laboratory" in my home. So I have a very good idea of the top issues that all parents share. I research the best answers that support positive, nurturing, "No-Cry" parenting ideals and share those answers with my readers in my books.

I hope that I can help you to find the solutions to the parenting challenge that you are facing today.

Hugs,
Elizabeth

Editorial Review:

At last! This special cookbook puts flavor and choice back on the menu for people with diabetes and their families
Betty Crocker, America's most trusted friend in the kitchen, has teamed up with the International Diabetes Center (IDC)--one of the leading medical centers--to create an indispensable source of easy-to-make recipes and up-to-the-minute food and nutrition information for the growing numbers of people who have diabetes, more than 15 million of them.
Here is the first cookbook to include recipes featuring Carbohydrate Choices--the new, simplified approach to meal planning recommended by the American Diabetes Association. For people who find diet exchanges too hard, too limiting or too much work, this new method is a real breakthrough. Each of the book's 140 recipes shows the number of Carbohydrate Choices per serving, so that planning the rest of the meal is easy. From Old-Time Beef and Vegetable Stew to Creamy Vanilla-Caramel Cheesecake, the recipes are made with everyday ingredients, including sugar. No food groups or ingredients are left out, so there's no need for anyone to feel deprived or restricted to a special diet. Food exchanges are also included, making it easy for those who still count calories.
Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook is also packed with expert medical and nutrition tips from Dr. Richard Bergenstal, an endocrinologist and diabetes doctor, and two registered nurses--invaluable for the newly diagnosed as well as for those who have been coping with diabetes for years. Throughout the book, real-life advice from people who have diabetes offers inspiration and great ideas on dealing with this chronic disease. When it comes to eating and living with diabetes, people need guidance and advice they can trust.

Mater of love 4 out of 5 stars.

I have learned to understand that the door to spirituality is opened slowly instead of yanked open all at once. Even though I read nothing new in this book, I did see a different perspective that reinforced all that I'm learning, pushing that door open just a little further. I also recommend I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't

Everything and more! 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm not a big self-help book type person. But this was incredible. My cousin suggested The Four Agreements to me (when I was 17) and I was astonished. I loved the book and needed to know more, so I bought the Mastery of Love and was not let down. As an 18 year old, this book is great for all ages, and I am glad I was exposed to this at a young age, especially before heading off to college. I have given it to everyone I know in hopes of them to change their lives and cast out their demons as well as reinventing themselves. It's not easy, but this book definitely helps. Great book!

Editorial Review:

In a refreshingly honest investigation of the true nature of love, don Miguel Ruiz brings to light the commonly held fallacies and misplaced expectations about love that permeate most relationships. In the tradition of Carlos Castaneda, he uses inspirational stories to impart the wisdom of three fundamental Toltec masteries (Awareness, Transformation, and Love). The themes explored include the Toltec wisdom of the heart, the track of love, and the war of control.

Hopefully there are better books for our girls than this ... 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

While the book had some insights, I nevertheless found it simplistic, unscientific and disappointing. Whoever gave Mary Pipher her Ph.D. must be cringing. The usual suspects are to blame for the problems plagueing our young girls, including the 'feminist' fan favorite, the 'girl-poisioning' society. If you like this kind of pop psychology, then this book is for you. If you are a more serious reader, then move onto something else and save your money. I particularly like the section in the book where Dr. Pipher mentions that '...she knows very little about [the psychology] of boys...' and then spends the next several pages proving it. It can be argued that growing up today is harder than in previous generations and our young girls need help. Sadly, so does this book.

Editorial Review:

At adolescence, says Mary Pipher, "girls become 'female impersonators' who fit their whole selves into small, crowded spaces." Many lose spark, interest, and even IQ points as a "girl-poisoning" society forces a choice between being shunned for staying true to oneself and struggling to stay within a narrow definition of female. Pipher's alarming tales of a generation swamped by pain may be partly informed by her role as a therapist who sees troubled children and teens, but her sketch of a tougher, more menacing world for girls often hits the mark. She offers some prescriptions for changing society and helping girls resist.

For serious and mature readers only! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

A great book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. Most negative reviews for this book were from guys and I understand why. Guys don't want us to make them put an effort into pursuing us (girls). They definately wish it would be easier for them, but that's exactly why our relationship fails to work after time- we make it too easy. The book teaches how to interest men and make him work to get you if he really wants you and if he doesn't, you don't need him. The book is very true. That's how all relationship work. For those who really wants to get married-don't live with a guy before you get married, otherwise he will never propose and you`ll find yourself pushing him into doing it, not what you want. I'm sooo unbelievably sorry I didn't read this book earlier. I would have not made so many mistakes in my life.
Good Luck.

everything you wish your mother(sister, older friend) could have told you, but didn't 5 out of 5 stars.

after reading this book, I fell much more confident. I know what to do so as not to make any mistakes.

Self respect and no more players 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I just read this book and now I get it. I had a good (male) friend who was also a player. Even as a player I asked him advice on getting guys. He told me that you have to act like you don't give a f***. I didn't know what he was talking about. Now that I read this book I get it. Before this week as soon as I slept with a guy, called a guy, showed too much interest in a guy, the relationship was over. I did not understand it. I always thought that being agressive and obsessive is how to get what you want. Even watching Eddie Murphy's comedy I didn't understand half of it about the relationship part until I read this book. Now I get it. It's not about restrictions, but freedom. I recommend this book to every woman on the planet, but hope that none of them read it because I want all the guys to myself. (giggle)

Similiar to Clean Eating Diet, but not the 'Cookbook' 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I'm a big Tosca Fan! Maybe I had the wrong idea, but I thought this was more of the 'Clean Eating Diet Cookbook'directed toward creating meals with your children and still being healthy. It actually resembles 'The Clean Eating Diet,' with it's Half guidance, Half recipes format. Both have recipes in them not included in her other books. She also has great recipes in 'The Butt Book' (we love to create the soups especially). I own them all and have tried many recipes from each. The Family edition is 327 pages not including the index. pgs 200-327 are recipes and a large picture page (so about 63 recipes). There are of course some recipes my son (8) is ready to try like mac and cheese, chicken 'nuggets,' and the 'fish sticks,' and some I'm ready to try like the 'baked ziti.'
Now she just needs to come out with a recipe group for the series. I'll buy that, too.
Only 4 stars because I wanted more recipes and less chat.

Editorial Review:

We have been hearing for years now about the obesity epidemic and other health issues facing children. In fact, the longevity trend is reversing with this generation - children born today are not expected to live as long as their parents. In The Eat-Clean Diet for Families and Kids, author Tosca Reno handles this issue with typical aplomb.

Willful? Or being a child? 1 out of 5 stars.
7 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I was given this book by a helpful relative. Please read with a grain of salt - some of the ideas, like hitting a child with a small belt or paddle if they do not stay in bed, and then telling them you love them, are really off the wall. Bedtime is one of the most precious times in the world, and the idea that you would hit a child with anything as you send them off the sleep has to be wrong. We have had to deal with this on occassion and find the "Nanny way" works best, little talk, be firm and put them back in bed.

would not recommend this book to anyone.

Editorial Review:

2005 Gold Medallion Award finalist!
Dr. James Dobson has completely rewritten, updated, and expanded his classic best seller The Strong-Willed Child for a new generation of parents and teachers. This book is a must-read for parents and teachers struggling to raise and teach children who are convinced they should be able to live by their own rules!

Editorial Review:

Aimed at nothing less than totally restructuring the diets of Americans, Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy may well accomplish its goal. Dr. Walter C. Willett gets off to a roaring start by totally dismantling one of the largest icons in health today: the USDA Food Pyramid that we all learn in elementary school. He blames many of the pyramid's recommendations--6 to 11 servings of carbohydrates, all fats used sparingly--for much of the current wave of obesity. At first this may read differently than any diet book, but Willett also makes a crucial, rarely mentioned point about this icon: "The thing to keep in mind about the USDA Pyramid is that it comes from the Department of Agriculture, the agency responsible for promoting American agriculture, not from the agencies established to monitor and protect our health." It's no wonder that dairy products and American-grown grains such as wheat and corn figure so prominently in the USDA's recommendations.

Willett's own simple pyramid has several benefits over the traditional format. His information is up-to-date, and you won't find recommendations that come from special-interest groups. His ideas are nothing radical--if we eat more vegetables and complex carbohydrates (no, potatoes are not complex), emphasize healthy fats, and enjoy small amounts of a tremendous variety of food, we will be healthier. You'll find some surprises as well, such as doubts about the overall benefits of soy (unless you're willing to eat a pound and a half of tofu a day), and that nuts, with their "good" fat content, are a terrific snack. Relying on research rather than anecdotes, this is a solidly written nutritional guide that will show you the real story behind how food is digested, from the glycemic index for carbs to the wisdom of adding a multivitamin to your diet. Willett combines research with matter-of-fact language and a no-nonsense tone that turns academic studies into easily understandable suggestions for living. --Jill Lightner
