Editorial Review:

From the bestselling authors of Leadership and Self-Deception. What If Conflicts at Home, at Work, and in the World Stem from the Same Root Cause? What if We Misunderstand that Cause? These Key Questions Are Answered Here!

Through an intriguing story of parents struggling with their troubled children and with their own personal problems, The Anatomy of Peace shows how to get past the preconceived ideas and self-justifying reactions that keep us from seeing the world clearly and dealing with it effectively. Yusuf al-Falah, an Arab, and Avi Rozen, a Jew, each lost his father at the hands of the other's ethnic cousins. As the story unfolds, we discover how they came together, how they help warring parents and children to come together, and how we too can find our way out of the struggles that weigh us down.

The choice between peace and war lies within us. As one of the characters says, "A solution to the inner war solves the outer war as well." This book offers more than hope -- it shows how we can prevent the conflicts that cause so much pain in our lives and in the world.

Editorial Review:

Anderson started running and cycling during the salad days of the fitness boom, when the goal was simply to go farther and farther. No one knew what all those miles would do for a body--or do to a body. One day he realized he could barely reach past his knees while sitting on the floor in a straight-legged position. His tight muscles thus revealed, he began a lifelong quest to figure out the secrets of flexibility.

His main discovery--and his core message to readers--is this: "Stretching feels good when done correctly," he writes. "You do not have to push limits or attempt to go further each day. It should not be a personal contest to see how far you can stretch."

The world of sports may have shifted away from Anderson's style of "static" stretching--holding a stretch for 20 to 30 seconds or longer--but in the everyday world, it's still considered the safest and easiest way for people to become more flexible.

The key to successful stretching, Anderson says, is not trying to do too much. "It's better to understretch than overstretch," he writes. The point of flexibility exercise, after all, is to protect yourself from injury or immobility. The worst thing you can do is hurt and ultimately immobilize yourself while trying to prevent those consequences.

Stretching contains hundreds of exercises, simply and clearly drawn by Jean Anderson, the author's wife. (In an eccentric twist, most of the figures in the drawings are shown wearing wool hats, which Mrs. Anderson designs and sells.) Routines are shown for getting up in the morning, for before and after walking or sitting, and for watching TV. Sport-specific routines include programs for weight training, basketball, golf, running, and many others. All are simple, safe, and as easy as you're willing to let them be. --Lou Schuler

5 Stars is not Enough 5 out of 5 stars.

My 19 year old daughter was diagnosed as gluten intolerant and we started a search for information. I found this book on amazon.com and I was amazed at the fantastic reviews. They are well deserved. My daughter could not put the book down. Most books on the subject are either medical books or nutritional guides. This is an entertaining read which is FULL of useful info such as how to snack at a party. I have spoken with the author Danna Korn and she is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Do not assume a "Dummies" book is too simple. It makes a complicated medical condition simple to understand.

Great guidelines 5 out of 5 stars.

Suggested by our daughter's teacher. Wish we could adhere to the guidelines regularly. The argument is sound and definitely gave us food for thought about how we teach our kids to relate to books and think about the written word. Recommended if you wish to share your passion with reading with your kids.

This is the book! What's more important than reading?! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is appropriate for every caring parent. I am a homeschooling mother of three and I can't recommend it highly enough. After reading the library's copy I had to buy my own copy, plus several for friends and family members who have kids. It is full of high-quality info and ideas about reading to children, and about them ultimately reading to themselves. There is also an organized and valuable "recommended books" list in the back. Wonderful!

Editorial Review:

A new edition of the acclaimed literacy handbook explains the importance of reading aloud to children while offering guidance on how to set up a read-aloud atmosphere in the home or classroom and presenting more than 1,200 children's titles that are ideal for reading aloud. Tour.

Festive Gem 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This gorgeous book is the perfect way to celebrate Thanksgiving and learn it's miraculous story. Barbara Rainey, a renown Christian writer, puts together a book of many parts that will appeal to people of all ages.

The main large text deals with the details of the Pilgrim's journey, but there are also sub-sections that mention the origin of fasting, the relationship between the Indians and the Pilgrims, what it means to give thanks to God and choose to be grateful, and even the Thanksgiving Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln. The book is filled with true tributes to God; Rainey not only gives the reader personal advice on how to give thanks to Him, but she also draws from various other sources, including quotes from the Bible and two of the most upstanding Pilgrims. Her relation of this holiday to true Christianity is wonderful and should serve as a reminder to every American what this holiday is truly about.

Along with the wonderful story and quotes are gorgeous illustrations and a CD of holiday music. I really can't think of a better piece to represent Thanksgiving and I recommend this to everyone of all ages! I curled up today with this book and a mug of hot apple cider and I couldn't have been happier :)

Editorial Review:

Begin a new Thanksgiving tradition with this dramatic audio presentation of the Pilgrim's exciting Thanksgiving adventures! You'll be moved by their courage, challenged by their perseverance, and influenced by their heart of thankfulness for God's goodness and provision.

It's perfect to listen to on the way to Grandma's! Includes a Thanksgiving praise and worship CD, too!

Glad I got this book. 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was recommended to me and has come in handy for reference. It's really like a bible for people who are open to eastern and western medicine but prefer to use food rather than pills to help the body do its thing well.

It is the best book on nutrition ever! Yes it is heavily biased towards TCM, but it is perfectly fine with me. I thoroughly enjoy reading this book. It has good information, research and insights.

Eastern tradition meets Western nutrition 5 out of 5 stars.

I have recently been studying Feng Shui, which has introduced me to Macro Biotics, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese medicine and the eastern philosophy of Taoism. If I hadn't learned about the 5 elements and yin and yang, I don't think I could've comprehended much of what has been written in many of the books that are out there- and I've ploughed through several. This book, however, not only gives a much better and more complete explanation than many of the other books that I've read, but I think that someone new to eastern medicine and philosophy could very easily understand this. Having been actively involved in nutrition for the last 12 years, I am familiar with many of the options that are available in alternative and natural medicine. This nutritional plan, however, makes the most common sense of any I have read about or tried. It just "feels" right to me. I bought four copies to give to family members for Christmas. And I just gave one to my clinical nutritionist for her birthday. She hadn't seen it and was overjoyed. I have been talking to her for months about "stuck qi" and "summer heat". Now we will be on the same page. She mentioned that she's interested in studying acupuncture after her kids get a little older. I think that maybe I had something to do with her decision. That and the fact that she saw incredible results in me when I visited my TCM doctor. Spread the word.

Editorial Review:

A guide to health, diet, alternative medicine, and natural food presentation teaches readers how to apply Chinese medicine and the five-element theory to a contemporary diet and treat illness and nervous disorders through diet. Original.

Editorial Review:

Shortly before her death in 2004, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and David Kessler, her collaborator, completed the manuscript for this, her final book. On Grief and Grieving is a fitting completion to her work. Thirty-six years and sixteen books ago, Kübler-Ross's groundbreaking On Death and Dying changed the way we talk about the end of life. Now On Grief and Grieving will profoundly influence the way we experience the process of grief.

On Death and Dying began as a theoretical book, an interdisciplinary study of our fear of death and our inevitable acceptance of it. It introduced the world to the now-famous five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. On Grief and Grieving applies these stages to the process of grieving and weaves together theory, inspiration, and practical advice, all based on Kübler-Ross's and Kessler's professional and personal experiences, and is filled with brief, topic-driven stories. It includes sections on sadness, hauntings, dreams, coping, children, healing, isolation, and even the subject of sex during grief.

"I know death is close," Kübler-Ross says at the end of the book, "but not quite yet. I lie here like so many people over the years, in a bed surrounded by flowers and looking out a big window....I now know that the purpose of my life is more than these stages....It is not just about the life lost but also the life lived."

In one of their final writing sessions, Kübler-Ross told Kessler, "The last nine years have taught me patience, and the weaker and more bed-bound I become, the more I'm learning about receiving love."

On Grief and Grieving is Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's final legacy, one that brings her life's work profoundly full circle.
