Simple and readable, but a bit too shallow 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This self-published book is literally 100 pages from cover to cover; as such (the author's favorite phrase which he uses ad nauseam), the real stuff only goes from about page 12 to page 90. Plus there's a ton of white space on each page.

Why do I mention this? Because even though the book makes some tax topics easy to understand -- for instance, I liked its short chapter on retirement plans -- it's a rather poor value for over twelve bucks. The author could have said so many more things, without complicating anything. For instance, the said chapter on retirement plans sorely lacks information -- important information -- on when each plan must be filed with the IRS. Also, the few chapters on business deductions (a topic most readers bought the book for) are very light and very shallow.

If you're absolutely clueless about sole-proprietorship tax planning and don't want to hire an accountant, this book can serve as a start, a primer of sort, but you'll need another more in-depth book like those put out by JK Lasser or Nolo. If you already know something about business taxes, this book will be too elementary for you.

Somewhat helpful 2 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

For the most part, there is nothing this book can teach you that you won't find in your casebook, but the problems are good practice. A lot of the information is helpful, but I don't know if you can trust all of the answers. My study group and I have found various confusing mistakes within and it has cost us valuable study time. See e.g. page 152 --second paragraph explaining a RAP problem (the author confuses O and A in saying that all of A's children would be born or conceived upon O's death).

Excellent Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I didn't even read the casebook because it was too blah... This was the best book I found for Future Interests...

A Reader is Right... 4 out of 5 stars.

The book is good, but there ARE mistakes - and not all of them are even typos. So get it and read it, but be careful. Overall, it's definitely worth it and will help you to understand future interests.

Estates In Land And Future Interests: A Step-by-step Guide (Coursebook) 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is ESSENTIAL !! An amazing book that logically and clearly takes you through the topic in a way that your case book and most lectures do not. You must get this text if you really want to understand this issue.

Short on info, long on opinion 1 out of 5 stars.
6 of 9 people found this review helpful.

There's very little factual substance to this book. Rather than giving detialed information on the tax consequences for specific actions and deductions, the book just tells you what you should and should not do, and in a few cases the author's opinion is presented too strongly (i.e., rather than explain the potential long-term tax savings that can be attained by incoroprating in business friendly states such as Nevada and Delaware, the author outlines the cost of having your mail forwarded from these states to your own and instructs you not to incorporate out of state becuase of the couple hundred bucks of annual forwarding costs. In the long run, you can save alot of money and time by incoroprating in such states.)

Call my sexist if you'd like, but I've noticed that informational books written by women often tend to leave out important factual information and instead contain the female author's opinion states as fact (i.e. "Don't keep money offshore." stated without any factual reasoning, when such a decision could definately benefit some taxpayers.) This book is definately not worth reading. A much better and more detailed tax refrence book would be Deduct It! by Nolo books. All of the information in Deduct It! was presented in depth along with court case studies showing which deduction decisions held up and which did not.

simplistic 1 out of 5 stars.
10 of 16 people found this review helpful.

Not very well written. Its is simplistic & somewhat condescending.
Later chapters tend to repeat basic concepts covered earlier without expanding upon the issues. There are more knowlegable authors out there that are refreshing and can effectively advance the your knowledge.

Information Packed Book! Lots of Great Tips 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I thought this book was excellent! I learned quite a lot from reading it and hope to really apply what I have learned to my finances. It was jam packed with helpful tips and ideas on how to take full advantage of tax loopholes. I would recommend this to any small business owner!!

Straightforward information on common tax risks and opportunities 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This clearly written book offers a handy guide to tax strategy for the rich and for those who hope to be rich. Author Diane Kennedy, a certified public accountant, provides basic information on common tax risks and opportunities. Without using burdensome jargon, she explains the fundamentals of financial reports and record keeping. Her approach is commonsense and straightforward she doesn't make outrageous promises or exotic, inapplicable recommendations. The title is slightly misleading. This book is not really about loopholes, but rather about sound planning and management - especially for business owners. It does get into the minutiae of tax law, which is subject to change, so some of the details may have a short shelf life, and much of the advice will have little applicability outside of the United States. Nonetheless, we recommend this basic guide to anyone who needs a fundamental introduction to personal financial and tax management in the U.S.

Editorial Review:

In easy-to-follow and straightforward language, this guide teaches business owners how to pay only those taxes which are due to the government - and save the rest. By learning the rules that the wealthy play by, business owners can take advantage of legal tax deductions to cut their annual tax payments.
