    Editorial Review:

Regarded as one of the best casebooks available for any course, this comprehensive text combines interesting cases, well-tailored notes, and a clear organization into an excellent teaching tool.

The new Seventh Edition retains the late Jesse Dukeminier’s unique blend of wit, erudition, insight, and playfulness and covers all the key topics in a logical, clear organization. Included are interesting cases that are not only fun to read, but fun for professors to teach as well. Cases are enhanced and connected to broader legal principles by well-written notes, questions, and problems and cartoons, illustrations, and photographs provide humorous interruptions and visual commentary at appropriate places within the text. New authors James Lindgren and Robert Sitkoff updated the book to reflect legal change while remaining careful to retain the same interesting mix of cases, engaging notes and flexible organization that makes this a highly successful casebook. Additions and improvements to the previous edition include due attention to new developments in law reform by the ALI and NCCUSL such as: Restatement Third, Trusts (2003, Uniform Trust Code (2000) including proposed 2004 amendments, Restatement (Third) of Property: Wills and Other Donative Transfers (2001, 2003)and Uniform Disclaimer of Property Interests Act (2002. Attention is given to ongoing developments in the law such as inheritance rights of posthumously conceived children, standing of donors in suits against the trustees of charitable trusts, the rise of domestic offshore self-settled spendthrift trusts, the erosion of the rule against perpetuities and the rise of the perpetual, generation-skipping trust. There is enhanced coverage of increasingly important topics such as fiduciary administration and trust investment law (including modern portfolio theory, diversification, the principal and income problem, and measuring damages; and inheritance rights of same-sex partners, inheritance rights of children, with comparison to the other common law countries (which are far more generous to children). Also included is a more logical presentation of nonprobate transfers and their role in estate planning, fully updated tax chapter with attention to new developments such as the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Notes, questions, and problems have been revised throughout where appropriate in light of the foregoing and other developments.

    Editorial Review:

Written as a novel, the book makes the complex concepts, issues and terminology of international trade understandable for students.  Professors complain that their students cannot grasp the nature of how some economic tools are used or how they work in life.  This novel bridges the gap of concepts with applications by use of a fictional story.

David Ricardo comes to life to discuss international trade theory and policy with Ed Johnson, a fictional American television manufacturer seeking trade protection from television manufacturers. Their dialogue is a sophisticated, rigorous discussion of virtually every major issue in trade theory and policy. To illustrate the positive and normative effects of international trade and trade policy, Ricardo takes the reader and Ed Johnson into the future to see an America of free trade and an America of complete self-sufficiency. The fictional element brings these topics to life so that students gain the intuition and understanding of how trade changes the lives of people and the industries they work in. The fundamental intuition of how international markets function including general equilibrium effects and policy analysis is provided.

Not for laymen, indeed 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Disregard reviews criticizing the technical nature of this book. I became a fond user of the Nutshell series when I was in law school; I don't think that these books were ever intended for use by the Average Joe. By its very nature, the subject matter is technical and can only be simplified so much. There is a reason why there is no such book as "International Taxation for Dummies" or "Brain Surgery for Dummies".

These books are great to use as a springboard for further research and study of the issues covered. I would recommend the book to students and practitioners of accounting, business, and taxation.

    Editorial Review:

This book is intended to serve as an introduction to the U.S. law of international taxation. It is a primer aimed at law students, foreign lawyers or scholars, U.S. lawyers seeking an introduction to the area or a refresher, and others who might benefit from an overview of the U.S. tax laws governing international trade and investment. The book attempts to summarize the law, offering some attention to the purposes of the various legal rules. However, it is beyond the scope of the book to offer a critical evaluation of the provisions summarized.

Frequent references are made to both the Code and the Regulations. There are some citations to caselaw and administrative rulings where they help illustrate the subject matter. However, the book is not a treatise, and so there is no attempt to treat comprehensively the caselaw and rulings.

Tax Manager 5 out of 5 stars.

An absolute must for any tax professional working with partnerships. Like the title indicates, it is very logical and gives an overview of the complex details before diving into the details.

Fantastic study aid 5 out of 5 stars.

If you've been reading your partnership tax textbook scratching your head and wondering where they got this number or that number, this book will be an immense help as you go through the rules and try to understand them. The Logic of Subchapter K goes through the subject matter in a very organized and well-presented fashion that makes it much easier to tackle. I am currently an L.L.M. student in Taxation, and I've found that, in combination with a textbook and lectures, this book makes it possible to not just memorize the rules but to actually understand and be able to apply them. Great book.

Update: got an A in the class!

    Editorial Review:

The material avoids neither the hard questions nor the conceptual difficulties, leaving students with a firm understanding of partnership taxation. Each chapter begins with a basic explanation of the relevant provisions, and the roles that they play in the overall structure of Subchapter K. Includes an increasingly detailed discussion of the specific rules, including multiple illustrative examples. Each chapter builds on the earlier chapters, leading the student through Subchapter K's seamless web. For J.D. or graduate-level law school courses on partnership taxation.

    It's a $29.95 Lawyer!! 5 out of 5 stars.
28 of 28 people found this review helpful.

Our small graphic design firm had been relying on the legal forms and contracts from this book for about one year. Finally, we decided that perhaps we ought to visit with a lawyer to make sure we were doing it right...$560.00 later for an initial consultation, we realized that this $29.95 book was the best business investment we'd ever made! The lawyer confirmed that the contracts that we had been using were airtight and were great (he had a few other pointers...but, none worth $560.00).

We have had many comments from our clients that over all the creative teams they'd worked with over the years, our design firm had surpassed them all in business professionalism. If you are serious about running a firm, or just want to protect yourself, you really can't go wrong with this book! Such a small investment for such a large return!

    Editorial Review:

This book contains negotiation tactics and thirty-three forms designers need in every-day business, including: Estimate for Client, Preliminary Budget and Schedule; Proposal Form; Job Sheet; Production Schedule; Estimate Request for Suppliers; Contract with Illustrator/Photographer/Printer/Sales Representative; Merchandising Agreement; Release Forms; Permission to Use Copyrighted Work; and much more.

Is what it is 3 out of 5 stars.

Okay so we're reading a book on TAXES people. This is not the latest and greatest thriller or murder mystery where you expect to be entertained. In fact, if you expected to be entertained by this book, then (a) you are way out of whack with reality or (2) you actually love tax related information. Basically put, this book is what it is, namely, a fairly comprehensive guide to the taxation of partnerships, estates and trusts. This is by no means a 'taxes for idiots' book where it shows the reader how to write some number on line 12 of some tax form and, if that's what you wanted or were looking for, then maybe you need the aforementioned idiots guide to taxes. Now if your in the trust business, a financial planner, a CPA or in some other industry that deals with taxes on a regular basis and your looking to gain some insight into recent developments as well as the specifics of taxes as described in the title, then this book will be helpful and I guarantee it will not spend a lot of time collecting dust on your bookshelf. Well at least not until the 2010 version. Enjoy!!
