Marriage Made in Heaven or Too Tired for an Affair 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I have always enjoyed Erma Bombeck when she had a column, but the children were small and I never had much time to read. Had I gotten a book like this one, I could of breezed through raising children and marriage with much less guilt. It is one of the funniest (because it's so true) books I've ever read. I am now a collector of Erma Bombecks books. Chapters titled,; "How Much Happiness Can We Finance?" The book for me was filled with memories from the 50's and 60's, and how it used to be. I found myself laughing outloud and shaking my head at the humor, yet truthfulness, that Erma shares with her readers. I'm getting two more of her books for Christmas, and am getting several others on auction. If you need a laugh, kick out some of those endorphins that need to come out and lighten you up, don't miss Erma Bombeck's, "Marriage Made in Heaven or too Tired for an Affair." It's fantastic!

For the first time all surviving Pythons have agreed to create the definitive, official, "completely-different-than-anything-done-before" audiobook on the Monty Python's Flying Circus and the 'genius' who created it.Over thirty years ago a group of five Englishmen and one wayward American rewrote the rules of comedy. Monty Python's Flying Circus, an unheralded half-hour of sketches, hilarities, inanities, and animations first appeared on the BBC late one night in 1969. Its impact on the world has been felt ever since. This audio edition is a complilation of unique never-before-heard interviews with the Python team conducted by Bob McCabe while he researched the Python book, plus clips from the famous Monty Python sketches, including "The Parrot Sketch", "Nudge, Nudge, Wink Wink", "Spam" and the "Ministry of Silly Walks." Narration will be by Bob McCabe with Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin, and featuring, Eric Idle, John Cleese and Terry Jones. Here is a unique glimpse at arguably the most important comic team of the modern age. Do you want Spam with that?

Editorial Review:

The bestselling author of Mama Makes Up Her Mind reads her all-new collection.

It is still a comfort to come back from traveling, with my random memories like a display in some Victorian museum of miscellany, to a home full of people whose lives I know so well I can tell the story of every missing finger and call every old lady's cat by name.

Bailey White's colorful slices of eccentric Southern life have long delighted listeners of National Public Radio's All Things Considered, on which she is a regular commentator. Now, in Sleeping at the Starlite Motel, her first collection since the ABBY-nominated Mama Makes Up Her Mind, she explores how places everywhere affect our lives, from her humid hometown in Georgia to a one-room school in Vermont.

Fans old and new will delight in Bailey White's tour of mansions with leaky roofs, hot springs, and "the kind of dreams you dream at the Starlite Motel." She takes us on adventures as mild as drinking tea with the Rose Queen of 1931 and as risky as deciding to teach first grade. She introduces us to her cousin Mandon, who wants to reunite the family's far-flung Chippendale chairs, and she tries to explain how, when she was assigned to computer training, she ended up at the dog track.

Sometimes hilarious, sometimes touching, Bailey White's readings of her unabridged stories are always rich with perception and grace.

Editorial Review:

I'm going to be totally honest.  This is not the kind of audiobook that can help you.  It's not a "how-to," a "when-to," or a "what-to-expect."  It's not even endorsed by anyone remotely connected to the medical profession.  (Although a cousin of mine who sells carpeting to doctors' offices not only found it "insightful" and "informative," but felt that, "if properly vacuumed, it should last a lifetime.")

"A fine endorsement," you say.  "But if I have only one audiobook to buy, shouldn't I go for the helpful one?"

Let's compare:

Those "know-it-all" books tell you how to have a happy, healthy pregnancy.  My book mentions a squirrel.

Those books tell you how to care for a newborn child.  My book describes how tired I am.

Those books give you essential information you can use in a life-threatening emergency.  My book has some very amusing anecdotes about poop.

So really, it's up to you.

If you want to be prepared and well-informed, I understand.  But if you enjoy hearing the words "pterodactyl" and "uterus" in the same book, you've come to the right place.

Nothing new to say? 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

After doing a pretty good to great job in The Dilbert Principle and The Dilbert Future and an ok job in Joy of Work Adams stumbles here with Way of the Weasel.

The strips are as funny as ever, but you'll have seen them before in the strip compilations and the daily paper. The trouble is that where he had actual insight, philosphy and something to say in his previous books he doesn't here. We either have the same old saws about management cleverly called "Management Weasels" as if it were new insights or what comes down to prose versions of the strips. The actual strips themselves are better than the prose versions.

The book does have its moments. But the start is fairly bad and you'll spend a lot of time thinking "Why am I reading this."

However if you have missed his previous Dilbert prose offerings you probably will enjoy this. If you have read Principle, Future and Joy of Work then you can safely give this a pass. You've seen it before!

Editorial Review:

In this hilarious new book, Scott Adams introduces the Weasel Zone -- the giant gray area between good moral behavior and outright criminality. It's where your coworkers, bosses, salespeople, CEOs, human resource executives, hotel clerks, home repair people, and loved ones reside.

In twenty-seven compelling chapters, Scott reveals the secrets of these slippery characters: how to recognize them, how they operate, how to stop them in their tracks -- and how you, too, can become a weasel.

You'll learn the best practice weasel methods for avoiding work, besting coworkers, and hiding your incompetence. To enhance your personal life, you'll find precise instructions for training your spouse to become your remote-controlled robot, whining like a weasel no matter how good your life is (even if you're a bestselling author!) and using Weaseleze, the official tounge of weasels, to conceal your meaning and confuse your enemies.

Ranking as high as any of Keillor's stories 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

The four stories of "Love", are quite simply genius, capturing the perfect balance between humor and poignancy. "Truckstop" is as good a story as Keillor has ever come up with, profiling the events both before and after Florian Krebsbach leaves his wife Myrtle at a truckstop. "Uncle Al's gift" provide side splitting humor as well as an excellent moral. "Rotten Apples" gives us another insight from Keillor into a child's weord, wonderful mind. And "The Wise Men" provides a glimpse into the difficulties of being a minister, especially at Christmastime. Personally, I would recommend that those considering buying this tape buy the whole "More News From Lake Wobegone" series, but if you're going to buy just one cassette, this is the one!

Editorial Review:

A thematic collection of Lake Wobegon monologues, Love includes "Truckstop," "Uncle Al's Gift," "Rotten Apples," and "The Wise Men."

Hilarious 5 out of 5 stars.

I discovered The Onion (its website) by accident, one day while searching on the Internet. And I was instantly hooked. The site is incredibly funny, and satirical and points the right amount of fun and directed political commentary at the key issues making the headlines. This is is simply important reading. While it is important to keep abreast of the serious journals and commnetary, its important to remember that satire and comedy are often as illustrative and explanatory than the serious stuff. Highly recommended.

Great fun at parties 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is a great book to keep in your back-pack at school, in your pants pocket, or your car's glove compartment for whenever you are feeling alone, or the weight of the stone. Working late? Depressed about your low paying job? Getting a bad rap from your parents? Had a fight with your old lady? Mad at the Jews? Getting a bad rap from Blacks? Been double crossed by a Pollack? The handicapped getting you down? Tired of all the homosexuals in your work place? Just pull this little sucker out for a quick glance, and it will bring your spirits back up. This book doesn't discriminate. It's got something for everybody.

Oh, and it's also a great little party favor. Uh, that is... just so long as you know the people at the party. I mean, really KNOW them. I guess what I'm saying is be careful. As funny as it is, this book could very well get you killed. The other volumes even more so than the first.

Editorial Review:

The original is back. TRULY TASTELESS JOKES took America by storm and made it laugh at itself. It's all in here, disgusting, repulsive, cruel, and just plain tasteless jokes and stories that will make you smile, laugh, or groan--and love every minute of it.

Dave Lister vs. Dave Lister. 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

A tad more serious, in some ways, than the other two novels, this is still a great adition to the Red Dwarf universe. Many of the parts are based on the TV series, but there is a lot of new material and a lot of wiggle-room for Doug Naylor to play with. With over 300 pages, there is a lot of humor and ideas packed into each chapter. Being published in 1995, I am a tad sad to see there are not more books out there!

a riotous ride--beyond reality 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a fun read--difficult to put down. It's a book in reverse in that the writing team of Rob Grant & Doug Naylor wrote the award-winning BBC TV series, Red Dwarf, before they began composing books based on it. The books include most of the major activities in the show but also more. The 1st two books (of the 4) they wrote together under the name Grant Naylor (a composite of their last names). These were: "Red Dwarf--Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers" & "Better Than Life" (which are available in one book called "Red Dwarf Omnibus"). Then the two authors split up. This is the 3rd book (Doug Naylor's). The 4th book is Rob Grant's "Backwards" which I just bought. Enjoy the ride!!!

Editorial Review:

Somewhere along the line, he'd made a major mistake. Why else would he find himself on a prison ship bound for Cyberia, the most inhospitable penal colony in Deep Space -- sentenced to eighteen years Hard Thought. Dave Lister -- the Last Human The future of the species is in the hands of one man. And all he has to help him are his wits, his cunning, and a two page girdle section from a mail order catalogue.

After "Will you guys please go away?," Car Talk car tunes are the most frequent listener requests fielded by Click and Clack, the famous Tappet brothers. Listeners searching for disrespectful, irreverent car tunes that express their true feelings about their cars need look no further.

Facing another incomprehensible, costly repair? Wondering how you managed to buy the only lemon on the lot? Sitting by the dusty roadside waiting for a tow? Tom and Ray have always been there for you and they'll be there for you again. Just pop Car Talk Car Tunes into your car player (assuming there's still enough juice to run it) and select a tune that best expresses your deepest thoughts and feelings.

Choose from 21 tunes researched by Car Talk's Department of Automusicology, songs with titles like, "Auto Service Hell," "King of Junk," "Cab on Fire," "My Bloody Yogo" and "Under the Wrench." This compendium of Disrespectful Car Songs features 21 of the best car tunes played on the air during the last 13 years of Car Talk, from bands including The Arrogant Worms, Red Meat, Betsy in the Gene Pool, and Dork Side of the Tune. These songs are just the beginning of a long list of anti-reverential auto anthems waiting to help you find the courage to slide back in behind the wheel.
