Poor Casebook 2 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

zanandjayna's review sums up much about how I feel about this casebook.

Other complaints that I had is that the notes/comments sections are quite poor and are usually of little relevance to the case and/or concept you just studied. Also many of the cases have been poorly edited, leaving out key concepts that most prof's expect you to know.

All in all, this is a poor casebook. If you use it i recommend a good supplement.

Review pertains to 5th edition

Ugh... 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This book is extremely tedious. The authors use extensive language, commentary, and notes which further confuse and do not explain the already-difficult concepts presented in the cases.

Not for pleasure reading. This book is used in Contracts Law classes; if your professor is not one who likes explaining things to any great extent I highly suggest purchasing a supplement or two to help you understand on your own.

best casebook out there 5 out of 5 stars.

This casebook was, by far, the best casebook I had as a 1L. It was well-organized, insightful, and clear. The author notes did much to clarify the complexities of contract law. As a student of Knapp's I'm probably a bit biased, but I did effectively learn my contracts.

Really bad 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book and its utter waste of paper and money. There are much better forms available for free to be downloaded from the internet. This book is completely useless for anyone who lives outside USA. I think Americans are smart enough to google the kind of forms they are looking for.

A little out dated 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is a little outdated, but is very useful in writing you own form. Most of the forms on the disk can't be customized using newer word processing software.

Editorial Review:

Here's the classic "bible" of forms and checklists for every situation a professional photographer may face. Thoroughly expanded and updated to cover the Internet, this brand-new Third Edition contains 31 forms, each ready-to-use as is, or easily tailored to fit any situation. Photographers will find contracts for wedding, portrait, and assignment photography; property and model releases, assignment estimates, confirmations, and invoices; delivery memos; license for Web usage; nondisclosure agreements; and much, much more. An accompanying CD-ROM provides electronic versions of these forms, ready to use on both Macs and PCs.

good last-minute review book 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

good review for corporations class. it is based on the model code, and sometimes DE. but if you need NY law, this book doesn't help that much. but the explanations are clear and interesting.

Decent 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I generally like the Examples and Explanations series, however "Corporations" is not one of their best. As other reviewers have mentioned, this book focuses primarily on the Model Business Corporations Act and does not include cites to Delaware or other states. Usually, I could find the cites myself, but this added a layer of work when I made my outline. Also, some cases were not explained succintly in one place--rather, the analysis was spread throughout a chapter and continued through the examples. This was distracting--it was more helpful when the key cases of a doctrine were summarized in one place and then briefly referenced later on. If your class focuses on Delaware you should also beware that there have been several key developments since 2006 that will alter some of the chapters. Other than that, it is hard to beat E&E for a good review of the material and "Corporations" does the job.

    Editorial Review:

This practical and straightforward study guide has earned its enduring popularity by demystifying corporate law for students who do not have a business background. "Corporate Law: Examples & Explanations, 5th Edition" presents a full review of the legal issues that arise in modern corporations.

West's Business Law Alternate Edition 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The product in itself was exactly what I needed. I am taking a Business Law class as part of my curriculum in Business Administration. I have found the the book is very informative but a little dry in reading. I was pleased with the speed of how the product was shipped but displeased in the condition it arrived in for part of the binding was literally cut down the bottom. It hasn't caused any issues for use but I know I will not be able to sell the book back to anyone without losing half of what I paid for it. My advice is to be aware of what you are buying and make sure that you ask the right questions. This was my first item bought off Amazon and it was much needed for class becuase the bookstore ran out and would be a while before getting any in so really there was little to no room for argument with the vendor. Anyway make sure you ask question and be aware that New does not always mean New!!!!!

    Editorial Review:

A market leader used by more colleges and universities than any other business law text, West's Business Law continues to set the standard for making classic black letter law accessible, interesting, and relevant to business students. This Tenth Edition refines and builds upon traditions established when the book was first introduced: authoritative content blended with cutting-edge coverage of contemporary topics and cases and an unmatched selection of innovative, high-quality support materials.

Best law textbook on property you can get! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

If you are looking for a property text, you cannot do better than this book. It is not only the best property textbook published right now, it is one of the finest legal textbooks I have had to read.

The writing is clear and comprehensible, and the cases are well chosen: provocative while remaining good examples of Black Letter Law.

My property class was the only section using Singer's book, and we are the only section that actually enjoyed the area of property law. This was not a coincidence.

This is the best casebook I have ever read. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The true greatness of this casebook is that it renders hornbooks and other guides superfluous. It is a truly great casebook in an area of the law I thought would bore me to death. It is so good it makes some of those New Jersey cases almost palatable.

You don't need a professor to teach you property law ... 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

... all you need is this textbook! Logically organized, comprehensive and explains complex concepts in a down-to-earth, easy-to-understand manner. The emphasis on the policy behind the rules is also extremely helpful. You won't need to buy a commercial outline with this book.

    Editorial Review:

This leading casebook employs a unique problem method, which many past students have found to be highly effective, stimulating, challenging and enjoyable. Students are provided material that allow them to arrive at their own conclusions about income tax concepts, rather than the text merely setting out such concepts for them. Each chapter begins with a set of problems with learning objectives and a list of relevant terms without definitions. These features are then followed by a detailed overview, relevant cases, administrative rulings, and legislative history. After reading the materials, students return to the beginning of the chapter to address the problems and define the vocabulary terms.

Good reference reading before you go see a lawyer. 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Nolo press legal advise books have been criticized for being so general in their content that they are not sufficient as a do-it-yourself legal tool. Those critics, and potential readers, should understand that a lawyer is almost always going to be required to properly deal with complex legal issues. Nolo press's books are a great primer for helping readers getting up to speed on a subject... not making them experts on the subject, and certainly not replacing a lawyers advise for complex and state-specific legal advise and services.

That being said, anyone considering bankruptcy should pick up a copy of this book so they can prevent paying a lawyer $250. an hour to explain these concepts to them. If you spend eight hours reading though this book, you will probably save 2 to 4 hours of a lawyers time explaining these concepts to you. I'd say it is well worth the money, considering that function. The text will not provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to file bankruptcy in your state on your own, without a lawyer. Plan on spending anywhere from $2k to $5k for those services.

    Editorial Review:

In these times of massive credit card debt and stagnating incomes, filing for bankruptcy has become the only relief for thousands of people. The information in How to File for Bankruptcy is so complete that a person can file virtually on his own, without needing to hire a lawyer. By no means does the book encourage filing for bankruptcy, but it will help anyone in serious financial trouble determine if bankruptcy might be a sensible course to take, and examines what kind is appropriate for different individuals. All of the necessary forms are included, complete with explicit directions. Like all Nolo Press titles, this is a straightforward, no-nonsense book of useful advice and specific guidance, written in clear, easy-to-understand language.

Great information about business law 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I doubted the content of the book at first thinking it'll just tell of normal business laws. But after the first chapter, I found this book actually being helpful in providing examples of cases that actually happened and how the business laws were applied. Even for normal reading, the book is surely interesting.

    Editorial Review:

"Concepts in context." It's an approach unique among business law textbooks and one of the main reasons Beatty and Samuelson's BUSINESS LAW AND THE LEGAL ENVIRONMENT is so successful in the classroom. From the very first chapter, the authors' superb writing fascinates, drawing students into the concepts of business law within the context of vivid examples and memorable scenarios. Throughout, provocative questions encourage students to reflect about what they are reading-teaching by example using activities that foster active learning and show students how to think through issues from a lawyer's perspective. No other text is as effective at helping students learn how to apply concepts and contexts to their practice, and in teaching them why business law matters not only to their careers but also to their daily lives.
