Good book for mineral owners as well as students 4 out of 5 stars.
15 of 16 people found this review helpful.

The third edition of this book was very helpful, and also included more recent case law cites than the second edition. I would assume this it true with the fourth as well (and there have been quite a few post 1995 court cases affecting royalty payments among other things). John Lowe is a well-respected professor of oil and gas law and has written many papers as well as several books on the subject.I find his writing style easy to understand, even for a layman like myself.I also found it to be much more than a "nutshell" approach in that the explanations of complicated ideas are fairly complete in most cases. He even touches on the structure and content of oil and gas sales contracts near the end of the book, which I found helpful as well.

Editorial Review:

Reliable source on oil and gas law. This authoritative coverage focuses on the legal rules that govern the development of privately owned mineral rights, which often also apply to governmentally owned resources. Text covers topics such as the nature, protection, and conveying of oil and gas rights, leasing, and taxation.

The product in itself was exactly what I needed. I am taking a Business Law class as part of my curriculum in Business Administration. I have found the the book is very informative but a little dry in reading. I was pleased with the speed of how the product was shipped but displeased in the condition it arrived in for part of the binding was literally cut down the bottom. It hasn't caused any issues for use but I know I will not be able to sell the book back to anyone without losing half of what I paid for it. My advice is to be aware of what you are buying and make sure that you ask the right questions. This was my first item bought off Amazon and it was much needed for class becuase the bookstore ran out and would be a while before getting any in so really there was little to no room for argument with the vendor. Anyway make sure you ask question and be aware that New does not always mean New!!!!!

an excellent companion volume for students 4 out of 5 stars.
10 of 14 people found this review helpful.

Findlay and Farber treat environmental issues in this work that is a part of the "Nutshell" legal series. Law students snap these works up around exam time to make sure they haven't missed any valuable tidbits, and this book has that sort of "Cliff's Notes" feel to it -- that is, it is not an exhaustive environmental law treatise, but makes an excellent supplement to such treatises.

Editorial Review:

The excitement of environmental law is that global ecological destruction makes it so important to our common future. The challenge of this field is that it is so complex. If you want to become competent in this exploding area of practice, this text will help lay the foundation. It covers various areas of environmental law, from acid rain and atomic energy, to waste disposal and wetlands. It touches upon the many statutory and common law regulations that are shaping the world in which we live. Once you better understand the environmental science and law using this volume, you'll be able to address exam questions more quickly and accurately.

it saved my grade! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I took a fairly structured water law course but even then it was hard to keep straight all the different legal regimes, federal laws, and constitutional doctrines. Come exam time, this was the perfect thing to fill in any gaps in my outline. Also being that Getches was a co-author of my casebook, the book corresponded really well with the order of my class notes/reading assignments.

Editorial Review:

Reliable source on water law contains updated court decisions from hundreds of case and statutory changes in several states. There is an added discussion on surface use of waters in light of the increased importance of public recreational water uses. Throughout the edition, where appropriate, analysis expands on the subjects of instream flow protection, water quality, and public-interest concerns in water use and water collection.

An excellent resource on Environmental law for everyone. 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Thomas Sullivan provides a clear, consise, and easy to use reference guide for anyone to use. This book not only contains actual text of some major environmental laws, but it also sites case studies and court decisions, all in an easy to read format. This book is a must for anyone dealing in environmental matters, and is a good source of reference for anyone concerned with the environment and public policy.

Essential 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This handbook is an essential tool to anyone in the environmental field. There are always new additions, so having a recent copy helps but it's not necessary since the environmental laws don't change that much. I would recommend getting a newer edition when a major law has passed so that the reader can understand the impact the new law will have on their community. A copy can usually be found at either the public library or a law library but there is SO MUCH information packed into this book that I highly recommend having your own copy so you can hi-light the text and bookmark the important sections that apply to your business.

Editorial Review:

This Nineteenth Edition references all regulatory changes made in the last two years and provides legal insight into understanding the requirements of the environmental laws. It examines all of the issues and changes that have arisen since the publication of the Eighteenth Edition.

Editorial Review:

The first part of the book provides an engaging discussion of the major themes and issues that cross cut environmental law. Starting with the first chapter s brief history of environmentalism in America, the second chapter goes on to explore the importance and implications of basic themes that occur in virtually all environmental conflicts, including scientific uncertainty, market failures, problems of scale, public choice theory, etc. It then presents three dominant perspectives in the field that drive policy development environmental rights, utilitarianism, and environmental justice. Chapter Three fills in the remaining legal background for understanding environmental protection, reviewing the theory of instrument choice, the basics of administrative law, core concepts in constitutional law (e.g., takings, the commerce clause), and the doctrines associated with how citizen groups shape environmental law such as standing. The second part of the book examines the substance of environmental law, with separate sections on each of the major statutes. International issues such as ozone depletion, climate change, and transboundary waste disposal are also addressed. These chapters build on the themes and conceptual framework laid down in the first part of the text in order to integrate the discussion of individual statutes into a broad portrait of the law.

A positive-themed manifesto of means to balance differing agendas into a more unified, and therefore stronger movement 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The Future Of Environmental Criticism: Environmental Crisis And Literary Imagination is a scholarly summary of the distinct critical practices that constitute "ecocriticism" today. Written by one of the world's leading theorists, who traces the ecocritical movement to its roots in the 1970's and its coalescence in the 1990's, The Future Of Environmental Criticism Asks such bold questions as: Why has interest in environmental literary and cultural studies risen so rapidly in recent times? Can the emphasis upon preserving nature of earlier ecocriticism be successfully reconciled with later ecocritical issues of environmental justice? The Future Of Environmental Criticism draws from past and present reality to predict the directions in which future ecocritical movements will flow, and offers a positive-themed manifesto of means to balance differing agendas into a more unified, and therefore stronger movement.

Editorial Review:
